this fandom is fairly 'bigoted' (I can't think of a better word) in a lot of ways but one that grinds my gears the most is that trauma & mental illness = weakness, *especially* around sexual abuse.

no, I don't think it's fetishistic or unrealistic to say that a teenager who just lost his entire purpose would be trafficked into underground crime, and I don't think it's a sin to say that teenager mello was vulnerable and susceptible to adults. no, I don't think a literal teenager is tough enough to outlast english homelessnes and poverty, nor is he some mastermind who wormed his way out of it without being exploited.

it's so clear to me that one, a lot of you don't know how trafficking works, and two, you think any kind of abuse or exploitation is some kind of marking on someone's character. trafficking isn't just scary men with a van, or a group of people stalking someone. sometimes, it's a little debt that builds over months, feeding the victim manipulation bit by bit so they don't realise when they're being exploited for labour. and usually, trafficking isn't just one kind of labour, either. most of the time it's a mix of sexual, drug, smuggling, and other things which would make sense in the literal mafia world.

mello being abused does not make him weak, it does not make him any less mello, and I certainly don't think entertaining the thought of it is predatory or an indication of someone's fetish, i just think you're all mind boggling
