Checkup || Felicia & Padraic

“Oh you’re quite right,” Padraic offered with a weak chuckle, shaking his head. “Had you come out of that training with anything less than exemplary skills, I would have been very cross with them.”
The older man gave a faint nod and sipped on his tea. “I’m sure there’s plenty more I could impart on you, but I’m afraid it’s hard to remember when one is not in the moment.” He held the young woman’s gaze for a while as he mulled over what to say. Now that Felicia knew the reason why they were in Mythos and just who her father was, Padraic was starting to feel the ease of tension from his shoulders. It was like a burden had been partially taken from him. Perhaps he should have told her this long ago. But the truth was that he worried that if he started talking, he wouldn’t know where to stop. And if questions about Felicia’s mother were to arise…well…the older man wasn’t quite sure if he would be able to bite his tongue so easily. “And Felicia,” he finally murmured, still staring at her as his expression grew quite serious now. He lowered his cup and placed it aside, then folded his hands together and rested them on his lap. “Aside from myself…don’t trust anyone. Not Finn, not my men, not anyone who can get close to you. You give the orders, but you rely on no one.” Speaking from experience, Padraic felt he knew what he was talking about. He’d been burned before. Too many times, frankly. “It’s a lonely existence…but a necessary one.”
Felicia was fit to burst with happiness- she’d never felt closer to her father or closer to accomplishing her goals, and knowing he still intended for them to return home as soon as possible made her very happy too. “well if you think of anything to tell me it’s not like I’m far away” she responded with a shrug, taking another sip of her tea and brushing off her skirt as she planned to leave- she didn’t want to monopolize his time, and she had work later. His serious expression caught her attention though and she stilled, holding his gaze. Give the orders but rely on no one. That was good, she’d have to write that down. “of course, dad..” Felicia agreed with a slow nod “You’d always raised me to be indipendant anyway” she smiled, lightening the suddenly heavy atmosphere “I really should get going I have work later, but I’m happy to know you’re well”
