Did Intsys put out the full results for the CYL furry cup? I do t care about the winners but im curious about how other characters placed.

I have heard about it! The concept looks pretty interesting but I don't really like social games or pvp/co-op games so I haven't tried it.

New Years request: My favorite guy

I dont have time or energy to draw anything for this blog right now and I'm not playing any FE games right now but FEH somehow always manages to give me such good Soren content.

Soren finally gets his best outfit (purple version)!! He's on the banner by himself without Ike and he isn't a demote! His forging bond event has him talking to a whole bunch of characters who aren't Ike!!

And his level up dialog has him mentioning Dheginsea and Ashnard which is just neat bit of dialog but maybe also a tiny nod at his relationship with both of them?

Funny enough, Fire Emblem Engage's character design philosophy is a lot more similar to Genshin Impact's than the new Three Houses 2's is but ive never really seen anyone make that comparison because theyre too distracted by the vtuber thing.

Genshin's design philosophy is built around the idea of a bunch of characters who come from various nations that all have very different and very distinct culture and appearance. The designs are also more concerned with communicating each individual character's personality and role rather than trying to make them all look like they belong to one homogeneous culture. That's what I mean when I say the designs speak more to the character than they do to informing the world building.

Engage does something really similar. You have a bunch of characters who come from different nations with very different cultures and appearance. There are some throughlines that make the different characters feel like they belong in their country but the focus is more on the design telling the story of the character's personality.

This design philosophy tends to produce characters who are less grounded/realistic looking and more exaggerated/theatrical. That's not a bad thing its just a different approach.

I still think Kozaki is the best FE character designer we've seen barring the thigh windows. But, I don't think the Three Houses designs are bad designs.

While I'm not interested in the new Fire Emblem game whatsoever and very disappointed that its going to be Three Houses 2 there's one criticism I've been seeing that I just don't agree with. Like, why are we saying that the designs "look like Genshin Impact"? For one thing they...really don't look anything like Genshin and for another....why would that even be a bad thing?? The character designs in Genshin are not, in general, bad designs and actually many of them are very good.

Is this where we're at? Any game that comes out that has an anime inspired style is immediately compared to Genshin Impact and that's automatically treated as a bad thing.

So we're really saying Anime=Bad

Because I could always tell a game was Fire Emblem from the first seconds of a trailer, from Awakening up to and INCLUDING Engage, but for this new title... I couldn't. And I don't think that's a good sign when the series has known so many varied designs...

Oh well, that's the current artistic direction for the Switch 2 era so I'll have to live with it -_- so far it's pretty, but it's not Fire Emblem enough to me.

That's just as you said though, a difference in artistic direction. It's not a bad thing for a series to evolve artistically over time. That's a good thing actually!

Maybe im just someone who prefers novelty but if a series looks exactly the same in every installment for 30 years that can get pretty boring imo.

And its not like Fire Emblem had "good design" simply because it was going for a DnD style knights and wizards aesthetic. Good design comes from having a solid idea and making sure the look of the characters follows that idea whether thats having the whole thing look drab and grounded, or having everything be vibrant and fun. From what little ive seen so far this newest title does have a solid and consistent direction.

You know what else sucks? Everyone is out here crying about how they have to buy a switch 2 in order to play the new Fire Emblem but I already have a switch 2 and that announcement is making me feel regret.

Why did they have to go and give me nearly EVERYTHING ive been asking for in a new Fire Emblem game and then slap freaking Sothis is front of my eyes.

Theres a brown MC and seemingly a lot of brown main characters. A setting that's more of a warmer climate that isn't just based on fantasy medieval Europe. Apparently new and creative class types....

Why do they have to go and rub the three houses stink all over it then?? I cant!!!!
