i hate having a long list of disorders and pathologizing and labeling my mental health like that but i understand that it helps people get a feel for who i am so the most important ones are: osfed, autism, adhd, depression (dysthymia w/ major episodes and seasonal), generalized anxiety

ok before i eat: i do think it's hilarious im slipping back into old self destructive habits when my life is actually the best it's been in a hot second.
maybe its the duplicity of feeling great about some things and ignoring others while at home everyone walks around our problems like it's shattered glass on the kitchen floor that no one wants to clean up. because getting a broom means recognizing the glass, and the glass is clear enough we can totally just ignore it despite the tiny little cuts on our feet
one funny thing about recovery is that i still have really prominent collarbones and cheekbones, i just have thicker thighs and a larger waist and much much healthier hair. and im not afraid to eat a cupcake, i really feel joy eating food again <3
there is a very real tendency of teenagers with anxiety disorders self diagnosing with considerably more stigmatized and impairing mental illnesses (e.g. schizophrenia, DID, personality disorders), but the best response to that isn't to get angry with them for "appropriating" lol. instead you show them coping resources for the problems they're actually having and deemphasize diagnostic categories in general. if an 18 year old is claiming to have alzheimer's, they're probably making an innocent mistake and are in genuine distress. be kind.
Also I think this trend comes, at least in part, from how brushed aside anxiety disorders can be. If your parents and teachers dismiss you with 'oh everyone feels anxious', then inevitably you're going to start thinking that there must be something else going on with you
”You must feel very scared right now; let’s talk about how to help you personally, tailored to your symptoms” will always be more helpful than “stop faking (X) for attention”. If theyre that desperate for attention or an explanation, something is wrong.
im so happy this post is getting traction please go eat some lentils or beans or tofu or edamame. you can have lentil soup or hummus or cassoulet or chana masala or chili con carne or falafel or pasta e fagioli or kimchi jiggae, there are sooooo many wonderful legume dishes out there!!!!!
