No, he wasn't stupid. Zelda had to have noticed by now. She just was more tactful than to draw attention to it. However, what business was it of this stranger-- this trespasser over how he was treated? He managed to get by just fine, and he had no interest in the throne. Why did anything more matter? He just wanted to stay close to his only family.

"She would be upset and I imagine she will do her best to remedy it. I matter to Zelda and I matter to Impa. I am needed here." Sheik insisted, his gaze cast downward.

However one thing irked at him.

"...Why.... are you so concerned about me? You only just met me not even half an hour ago. Why... would a stranger be so concerned about my fate?"

I'm needed here. He kept saying that, and it was starting to get under his skin. Why? What could fate possibly have planned that would force a child, one of Hylia's kin, to live such a miserable life?

But if Sheik was so absolutely convinced of his decision then Link knew there was nothing he could do to change his mind.

"Because I knew her an' I know she'd never want this. Not for one of her children." Link shrugged softly as he spoke. It was true; Hylia would never one of see any of her descendants suffer the way the young man was suffering - and he was one of her own. He was the half brother of Zelda.

Link shook his head as he straightened. He was akin to a ghost, and he had slipped into the Castle grounds unnoticed. He would slip out the same way.

"If this is your decision, then I wish you well."

" None! Nothing! I've never been a body collector-!" Reputable point of employment that it was, back in his own country. He was about to call foul for the sole point that this man was looting a freshly dead body. Indiscriminate and wholly without prejudice, and not a single other witness.

" Holy-" Nothing sanctified about this event. Simply not the time to lose his mind either. Chilchuck watched the splash of dark liquid make a tiny pinholes in the cobbles below, and the revolting smell around it starts to resonate upward in kind. It's vaguely acidic like an orange, but foul; it makes him jolt backward to avoid any of the effects on himself. Even his boots couldn't be risked. "Just like that-?!"

" No trials around here with the, judge right...here?" Justice ought to be swift. However,

Link let out a sigh, the noise somewhere between being annoyed and understanding of the panic that was rippling through his lackluster companion. It was often shocking to suddenly be face to face with the darker sides of what society had to offer. Having to realize that there would those who would gladly slit their own mother's throat if it would give them a leg up in life was never easy, and if they would be willing to treat their own mother so poorly then what regard would they have for the Princess?

Or... anyone else. Link might have felt confident he knew who their target had ultimately been, but perhaps he was wrong. And even if he was, did it really matter?

The emptied vial was placed back in the man's pocket before Link hauled one of his shoulders over his own, lifting him in a dead man's carry - and in this particular moment, it was suddenly more than aptly named. Chilchuck seemed horrified, but he hadn't tried to run yet. Whether that was out of morbid curiosity or terror, he didn't know, and Link wasn't about to start pressing him for information.

"There are trials and judges. I'm sure the Princess will be furious if she ever finds out how I handled this." And he shot the man a look that made it clear the Princess was never going to find out what happened. "But let's say we do that an' the man manages to hurt someone while the judge is ditherin' over whether or not he thinks the man is really guilty. Where's the justice in that?"

There was also no point bringing up his own experience with being falsely imprisoned for a murder he had never committed. For some reason, link had a feeling Chilchuck would have been less than sympathetic.

"Well. You can learn tonight. You know how to use a shovel, right?" Words said before Link started off, his gait closer to a stilted shuffle from the weight he was carrying.

Ganondorf's face wrinkled towards the Hylian's words. His golden eyes looking as if he was trying to search the other's face for some sort of information. Not that he was sure what he was looking for. "Do you believe that is all a bow is for?" A huff of irritation.

"Perhaps where you are from, that is all it is for." He turned his attention away from Luke, his eyes glancing back at the tumbleweed. "You cannot catch prey with just a sword. Knowing to shoot a bow determines if you eat or starve."

A frown was on his face before he turned back towards his current companion. "Do you believe that we are just barbarians like others do? That we only steal and kill Hylians?" It sure sounded like it with such a question. "Or maybe it is Hylians that only shoot a bow to fight others and presume others do as well."

Both of those things seemed believable to him.

"You could lay traps down an' snare your prey." His tone was mild, though Link was fighting against the urge to smile in the moment. He knew he wasn't helping, and he wasn't trying to simply be difficult. But if he was going to be presented with a question, he was going to give an answer.

Even if the answer wasn't wanted.

The young prince's next question, though, was one that was a little harder to answer. Link had to force himself to pause for a moment so that he could truly mull it over. He wasn't one to lie, even if the truth was an uncomfortable one. But did he truthfully believe that about the Gerudo?

-- out of the corner of his eye Link watched the tumbleweeds still blowing around them.

"No. The Gerudo aren't barbarians. Even in the past, it's always been the acts of just a few of them that branded them all as thieves." And why were they thieves? Didn't they choose to live in the desert? Yes, but what else were they supposed to do when the desert turned on them, forming an unending sandstorm inside that prevented travel to their oasis and stripped them of their ability to survive on their own.

"Just because I think that, though, doesn't mean the rest of Hyrule did." That was where the hard sell would be. And he shrugged after a moment before adding: "No. More just than you're the Prince, aren't you? I never really thought you'd be dealin' with your own huntin' is all."

Something about royalty being above that, but also royalty not really having the time for that.

"Bugs?" Link repeated, wanting to make sure he had heard the strange robot correctly. It wasn't exactly a strange question, but... well it did feel a bit odd to be asked that of all things.

"I don't really have much of a feelin' on them I guess. I mean, most of 'em just stick to themselves and do their own thing, an' they're just tryin' to survive. Same as anyone else." Sure, some of them could be annoy, and some could appear creepier and more unsettling than others, but they were all just trying to do their best to survive at the end of the day.

After a long moment he shrugged. "That's really all. I don't go out of my way lookin' for 'em, an' they don't bother me."

Well that certainly seemed like a question that had come out of thin air. Link blinked for a moment before pressing his lips together tightly, mulling over the question to come up with an answer to it.

"Not really. I've had to be on a boat only once or twice in my life; I've always felt far more comfortable with solid ground 'neath my feet. Doesn't seem to hard an' I'm sure I could figure it out, push came to shove, but I'm content bein' landlocked."

The ocean was far too big and it had far too many monsters that dwell beneath the surface. Exploring it could be left for adventures braver than he was.

The question had Link almost immediately blanching as a hand lifted to press up against his chest. Beneath his hand, beneath the fabric of his shirt, laid a scar that would never heal. An angry starburst of gnarled flesh, and beneath it was a sliver of pure malice that kept on trying to push its way into his heart. It was repelled only by the grace of Her magic, allowing his heart to heal - only for the Malice to stab it again.

The cycle would happen again, and again, and again. For all eternity, until he was finally able to rest.

"... hard ta say, really. I've gotten some pretty nasty broken bones over the years. Ya ever break your tailbone? Hurts like an absolute bitch the whole time it's healin'."

She didn't want to end it cleanly, that was the issue. Truthfully, she had the money and she could drag it out into a lengthy divorce process, but that would risk exposing all of Triforce Inc.'s shady secrets to the public, and that's what she was most afraid of. If that happened her sisters entire body of work would come crumbling down and then what would she have of them? Nothing but a few machines and dusty relics.

"Believe me, if I'd want to if I could, but right now he has nothing. To destroy him would mean destroying myself too, and there's assets I'd like to protect. I'm dancing around the issue, honestly, but Triforce Inc. does a lot of good for people and some of that good has not come... from entirely good sources. We do what we can, but..."

She felt herself becoming sick and exhausted. Sheepishly, she took the cool rag from his hands and nodded. It wasn't the worst place to sleep. It was certainly better than her car.

Once the cool rag was placed to her forehead, it honestly didn't take long for her to pass out on the couch.

She awoke the following morning with a throbbing headache, but luckily was spared the nausea. However, she didn't immediately remember the night before. She sat up in a panic.

"Where... Oh God, please tell me I didn't--... Damn it, Hylia. You aren't in college anymore-- you..."

She wasn't naked. She was on a couch. There was no stranger next to her. Okay. At least she had not made THAT mistake again.

Sheepishly, she got up, wondering if her host was around.

"Triforce Inc?" He was just a simple small-town mechanic. Clearly this company was some sort of big deal, but it didn't ring any bells for him. But the statement, the sentiment that 'oh we do good, but bad things had happened in the past' was certainly a familiar one. He had heard that often from others, multiple different companies and organizations that did terrible things but insisted it was okay it was different they were better now.

Did Lucas think that Hylia was a horrible person? No. But clearly she was a business woman, and she was thinking of this from a business perspective.

He shrugged again. "And? Companies get called out left an' right anymore for doin' shit things and it never actually hurts them. You'd probably get public sympathy if you came out ahead of him an' owned up to it before he could say anythin'. 'I was forced, this horrible man was blackmailin' me, blah blah blah."

And he guided her gently toward the sofa. A glass of water and some pills were placed on the table before he went back to his room.

Lucas was up before her; he was always up with the sun. A fresh pot of coffee was brewing, and when she stumbled out into the kitchen he looked over at her. "Mornin'." If she was hungry he could make eggs maybe, or something like french toast or pancakes, but he didn't often have breakfast beyond coffee.

"Er. You take... milk or anythin' in yours?"

Zelda hummed in otherwise silent contemplation of his words, taking a moment to really consider them. She supposed she didn’t truly have the answer. There were two sides to every story, and history usually only recorded one side — the side that won. Would it not be treasonous or blasphemy to speak ill of a king that ruled these lands? To be so bold as to write down his foul deeds is anything but a positive light?

“I suppose I will never truly know. I was not there during the construction of these cells; during the reign of that ancient king or queen,” she answered, though she’d guessed they had been built by a king rather than a queen. “The only person that may have once been there…” An accusatory glance in his direction.

If he had been the first Link — the one that had been a part of the start of this Goddesses forsaken curse — and he still walked these lands, who was to say he would not have been around or existed then? Not that she would pretend to understand the complexities of his existence. 

“Does it?” she questioned, brow arched even as they continued down the stairs, her golden light pooling onto the stone walls and illuminating the path ahead. “Was it done as a precaution for something that was previously faced? Or could they have been built as a prison for anyone that would dare to challenge his power and authority?” Was it possible that the king had been a tyrant and feared being usurped by another?

Hyrule did have its own fair share of darkness throughout its history.

The princess took in the empty cells that mostly lay in ruin. Prison doors off their hinges or battered in completely. Stonework crumbled, sometimes a portion or entire walls between cells laying in messy piles of rubble littered across the floor. “This place is worse for wear…” the cinnamon-haired maiden mumbled, more so to herself than Link.

She’d been busy examining the damage when Link caught her attention as he walked over to the wall at the end of the prison corridor, standing before it for but a moment before he cast a glance back over his shoulder to her. She’d arched her brow in question but hadn’t a chance to speak before he reached out with both hands and pressed firmly against the wall, shifting his weight as he did so. To Zelda’s surprise, she watched as the wall began to crumble and collapse, revealing an open passageway behind it.

“Goddesses above….”

Some of these secrets were better left buried, but that didn't mean that Zelda didn't deserve to know. Maybe even needed to know. There would have been a point where her father would have taken her aside to speak the truth to her, and then it would have been up to Zelda to decide if she would tell her heir. Her husband.

"Come on." She looked shocked by the sudden act of tearing down the wall, but it had been put up hastily in the first place. It had never been meant as a permanent feature, but the prior King had simply hoped to avoid his duties. Link had known that time and this... place would have done enough to weaken and wear it down.

It would have crumbled on its own. Better to happen now instead of when no one was around, and whatever was down below could try to break free.

"Tell me-- Queen." Link caught himself as they walked. Another set of stairs, another winding descent. They were surprisingly dust free, though the air was starting to feel heavier. "The power of Hylia is passed through the woman of the Hylian Royal family. It's not unheard of for a male to be graced with her power, but by an' large it's more of a matriarchal power. So... why do the Kings lead? Why ain't Hyrule lead by its Queens?"

There was an answer. Several answers, actually, but only one that would be traced back to the actual reason.

"Charming," Dion retorted back almost annoyed and off put by the others presence. There was something familiar about this man, although he couldn't quite place it and maybe he didn't care to. If the other was a lich and he wasn't sacrificing souls to a phylactery then he saw no reason to attempt to kill the other.

He just wanted to be very far away from him because he was annoying and rude.

"Some dragons don't. I am not one of those. I was a servant to Lady Hylia, and she asked me to watch out for her kin and the master sword. It is a duty I hold very dear to me. Not that a creature like yourself would have any sense of duty."

Link stared at the dragonman for a long moment, expression a bit blank. Another moment, and he started to slowly grin - and the grin finally exploded out into a burst of laughter. It wasn't quite doubling over laughter, but it was enough that he found himself with a hand to his chest, pressing against the aching scar as he just-- laughed.

"Oh-- oh, oh, that's a good one. That's real good." A deep breath in as he reached up, wiping tears from the corner of his eye. "Right. You serve Hylia. That, I do believe. But damn, you must not have been hangin' around her much with the last of her years, were you."

The dragon might have noticed it was a statement, not a question, because he knew the truth. And so would the dragon in a moment as Link grinned, one hand resting on the pommel of his sword as he stretched out his right hand for the other to shake.

"Nice ta meet ya, sir Dragon. I'm Link."

⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆ The more he talks about this Demon King the more he is reminded of Chaos. A being with the power of pure hatred? Oh that monster would have had a feast indeed and it could be the reason Chaos was attracted to these lands. Surely there has to be a pillar around here somewhere. How he'd go about finding it however, is another story.

He says that creatures got twisted into monster and this was a few decades ago, but he was just flying over Wonderland and he hadn't crossed through any portals so there was no way he ended up in another land. It was far more likely that Chaos had consumed another world again. A war and a Demon King were more than enough to lure the beast in after all.

"I see I see." He sounds as he nods a little to show he's listening. "Can I ask why you didn't go into the clouds with the others? If this Demon King is sealed into the land then surely there would be no need to stay or are you watching over him to make sure he stays that way? Nothing else has happened as of late?"

Skyloft was not a place for someone like him. Link had a feeling no one would have been happy to see him. The disgraced Knight who had left to travel with the holy priestess who was now dead at the hands of Demise. Never mind that she had actually been Hylia. Never mind that he had been fighting to protect her and had been willing to give up his own life to protect her. None of that mattered.

There was also the fact that he was... well. Dead. Demise's sword had pierced his chest and ended his life. His heart had start beating and he had stopped breathing and it had not been until Hylia's power had touched him that he had been brought back to life.

Link touched the aching scar on his chest for a moment before looking curiously at White Cloud. "Well, with a monster that evil someone's gotta watch over it. It'd be bad if it broke out an' no one was around to be able to warn people." And that was truly putting it mildly.

"But... while I am enjoyin' this little session, I get the feelin' you're askin' your questions for a reason. There somethin' you're gettin' at?" No judgment in his tone despite the blunt words. Link just preferred cutting straight to the point instead of dancing around it.

Had she done something to offend? Wasn't money something humans wanted? And from the smell of him when they'd first met he liked to indulge in alcohol. Wasn't this what he would want?

Mortals were hard to understand sometimes.

"You invited yourself along. Just because you ended up being useful does mean I owe you, and that's what the money is for. I see no reason for you to continue tagging along. Why would you want to be in the company of someone from the church you so loathe? Wouldn't that just annoy you?"

There's a pause as the bag of rupees drops with a loud thud. Hylia clicks her tongue.

"Someone like you? The Goddess doesn't care what you are. You are her kin simply just by being, or are you hoping for some other answer? That you have been forsaken because you are a non believer?"

It was odd talking to one who didn't believe she existed. However, the call of crows broke through their tense standoff. She had to go. Maybe she could shake him in the graveyard.

"Fine. If you're so insistent on tagging along like a dog who's been thrown a bone then we make for the Cisterns."

She didn't feel like explaining anything he hadn't asked.

"I invited myself along cause you were headin' out on yer own on a suicide mission - an' ya would've gotten your head shot off too." The malice-infected bokoblins had caught her off guard, leaving her wide open and vulnerable to their arrows. If he hadn't yanked her out of the way, then good luck trying to finish her goals while dealing with a hole where her heart should have been.

He hadn't done it for her to thank him. He did it because no one else had been willing to. Someone needed to look out for her. Maybe it didn't have to be him, but it had to be someone. Why was she acting so angry that he had decided to be the one to step up and try to handle it?

If I wasn't forsaken, why did she leave me to rot in jail for ten years? His jaw clenched, muscle twitching, but kept those thoughts to himself. It wasn't something that the lyrebird would be able to answer. All she'd say was some platitude about how Hylia loves all and she still cared for you.

"Forgive me for carin' if you stay alive." He had no reason to but someone had to. He was a Knight, or had been. It... meant something to him, even if it meant nothing to anyone else.

When she started walking, he followed after.
