denji x reader, fluff, not proofread, denji is like 19ish, reader isn't given an age, implied to be around the same age
a/n: i'm a denji supersenior truther, that man did not graduate high school first try, even if he passed every class, he wouldn't have had enough credits for highschool completion. (though i guess this is from an american standpoint, i assume most countries have graduation credits)
Denji's first experience working was when he was killing devils for the yakuza. His second was when he was killing devils for the government.
But, he was past that now.
He was just a (super)senior in highschool, trying to figure out all the things he had never learned how to do when he was younger.
Unfortunately, most everything he did required money. Money for textbooks, money for food, money to donate to his favourite onlyfan- errrr.....
Denji needed money for a lot of things.
What better way to get money than to get a job? A normal job.
So he applied to several places where his classmates worked at. It couldn't be that hard.
Only one accepted Denji, even though his interview was a mess.
"Okay, so when a customer comes up to you, say 'what can I get for you?'. Once they tell you, ask 'will that be all for you today?', and when they confirm, enter it in and grab their order. Tell them how much and ask cash or card. Got it?"
You looked over at your latest employee.
Denji nods confidently. "Yep, sounds pretty easy."
"Okay, try it then, I'll be the customer."
You slip out from behind the counter, and approach it from the other side.
Denji hesitates. Greetings weren't mentioned. "Uhhh... What can I get for you?"
"Wrong, respond back to someone's greeting politely." You frowned.
Denji frowned as well. "Hey, you didn't explain that one, it wasn't fair."
"You have to know how to improvise with customers. They're unpredictable, you won't know what they're going to say until they say it."
"Fine. Fine. Let's try again." Denji sulked.
"... Good morning," Denji tried for cheery, but he just sounded awkward. "... What can I get for you?"
"I'd like one plain chocolate, and one sprinkled chocolate donut please."
You frowned. "Don't say it like that, you sound like you're judging the customer. We don't judge customers based on their order."
"What??? I said the right thing? How can there be a wrong way to be right?"
"That's the job, don't like it, don't work here."
Denji slumped onto the counter. "No where else would hire me."
"One last time." Denji sat up.
You got back into character. "Morning!
"Good morning! What can I get for you today?"
"I'd like one glazed, one chocolate, and one jelly filled donut."
"Will that be all today?"
"Oh! And I'd also like vanilla with sprinkles."
"Alright, would you like to pay in cash or card?"
"Alright, your total is 15.22, you can tap, swipe, or insert your card here."
He reached to grab the donuts.
"Wait! Don't actually grab them, I'm not ordering for real."
"Oh, gotchu." His hands dropped.
You slipped back behind the counter and held up a hand for a high five! "Good job!"
"I did it right?" He looked surprised.
"Yes, you did so well!" you giggled, giving him a quick hug.
Denji blinked, and slowly smiled. Maybe working wasn't so bad.
