Saturday: two trains, then vermú y pintxos, then more vermú y pintxos but with aunt and uncle, then nap during a thunderstorm, then dinner with same aunt and uncle who believe that "dinner with family" is a good enough excuse to pull out the good champagne and then then the good (read: homemade) bottles of hierbas and calvados

Monday: quiet morning, lunch in a traditional restaurant in the mountains with more aunts and uncles (for desert i had a torrija with sirope de zurracapote and wine ice cream), long drive zigzagging over the mountains and back to see the old villages, and then dinner at the bar until they closed it around us

Tuesday: drive up to the basque coast, childhood villages, lots of stops for drinks by the sea, brisk winds, short hikes to see the flysch, smoked sardines, and again not home til past midnight

Today: lazy swim in the mountain lakes, improvised sandwiches at a picnic table, driving further up the valley to see more stone villages, sheep on the roads, then quick beer by the river before a small dinner on the terrace

Tomorrow: i will stay home, write, maybe finish the Emigrants, then go see the eclipse. Dinner will be steaks that are almost as thick as my forearm

#Good to be home/wish different people were here/itching to see a city again after four days away
