Today we know it as Roosevelt Island, but it's also been called Minnehanonck, Hogs Island, and Blackwell's Island. It's a great place to spend a summer day, but a quick Wikipedia search made it clear to that it hasn't always been a place you would willingly visit. @shorelodge is place that is deeply colored in my mind by childhood memories. It's what I imagine an old Swedish ski lodge would look like. Massive log stairways and big fireplaces with comfy chairs to sit and read. My Grandpa was born here in the mountains of North East Tennessee. When he and my Grandma married, they packed up and moved to Southern California. He found work as carpenter for the movie studios and they raised a family. I always remember him working out back, in their little yard, taking care of his trees. Oh, those plums and avocados. He would often sing hymns as he worked, usually it was Amazing Grace. I know he missed those Tennessee mountains, and although he would visit, they never did move back. Call me sentimental, but standing there was very special, and it was easy to imagine the sound of Amazing Grace drifting up from the fields below. #family
