A History of the Necronomicon – Being a short, but complete outline of the history of this book, its author, its various translations and editions from the time of the writing (A.D. 730) of the Necronomicon to the Present Day.
This edition of Lovecraft’s short essay on the genesis and history of his famous tome of dark knowledge, the Necronomicon, was printed in 1938 shortly after Lovecraft’s death. This is one of the rarest items of Lovecraft ephemera, according to the publisher, only 80 copies were printed. In fact, Brown University Library in Providence, Rhode Island, the holder of the largest Lovecraft Collection extant, has only the later reprinted Strange Company and Necronomicon Press editions, not an original.
