More tips from my experience:
plain rice goes a long way for meals, and so do dried beans! they usually go for $1/lb at the store
huge bags of potatoes usually go for <$5 at grocery stores, and, when stored properly, they last a long time!
spending a little bit more up front for spices and/or sauces REALLY helps when you’re eating the same plain rice and vegetables every day!
look up ways to make your vegetables last by regrowing or freezing!
check out these subreddits (/r/EatCheapAndHealthy, [check out this post], /r/7DollarDinners, /r/Cheap_Meals, /r/BudgetFood, /r/StudentFood) for more info on eating healthy and cheaply! These help me out a ton!

Wow
JUMP: Five-time champion Serena Williams advanced Tuesday to the Sony Open semi-finals and tied the women’s record for career victories in the tournament by beating No. 5-seeded Li Na 6-3, 7-6 (5).
The top-ranked Williams overcame six double-faults and rallied in the second set from a 5-2 deficit. She hit six winners in the tiebreaker, including a forehand passing shot cross-court on the final point.
When Williams smacked a winner on match point she jumped for joy cannonball-style, knees high and fist raised.
“I don’t usually leap like that in the quarter-final,” she said. “But it was just a good shot.” (Photo: Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images)

Excellent
Ten things you should know about exercise...
1. It shouldn’t be easy.
2. You have to learn to do it on days you don’t want to do it.
3. If you don’t figure out a kind of exercise you enjoy to some extent, you aren’t going to keep up with it. So figure that out quickly.
4. It’s okay NOT to do a kind of workout if you just can’t get into it no matter how hard or often you try. Just working out in any way is better than nothing.
5. Don’t overdo it. You’ll injur yourself and end up not being able to workout at all.
6. You should never work out to make up for overeating or simply to make up for extra calories.
7. Mentally you’ll feel better if you workout regularly. There isn’t a therapist out there who wouldn’t suggest working out for the mental benefits.
8. It takes time to get to a point where you do enjoy working out. It doesn’t happen immediately. In fact working out when you’ve just started can be downright miserable for quite awhile.
9. Working out at a heavier weight is painful, but the more you lose, the easier it will become. Keep at it.
10. Your body can get pretty strong if you give it a chance, don’t judge your body by how it feels those first few weeks of working out.

Smart Eating
Interesting fact: foods have been ranked in some studies according to how satiating they are. Potatoes (either baked or boiled - boiled potatoes are actually #1 out of pretty much all foods), apples, and oranges are some of the most filling foods one can eat.
Otherwise high-protein or high-fiber foods will have a similar effect. Lean meat, eggs, oats, beans. Foods that can be eaten at high volume, with a low caloric density - most veggies - are also helpful.
I’m mentioning this because sometimes I eat pretty terribly, and I am coming up with a plan to curb my appetite and reduce the appeal of that fourth slice of pizza. I’m getting those “I lost half my body weight and have been maintaining for a little while” cravings you hear about. But it’s a problem with a solution, regardless of what those articles (you know the ones) say.
