theyre right but also why do people hate the banana so much
to my (admittedly flawed and probably incomplete) understanding: the banana is a commentary on how modern museum art is anything that Certain Groups can be convinced has value (often derived from its meaning, statement, or commentary) and oftentimes looks to outsiders like something that doesn't need to be treated so grandiose
then a lot of people got mad because it's a banana duct taped to a wall and how dare something that doesn't need to be treated so grandiose be displayed in a museum like it has value
I personally find the whole thing funny, because the reaction to the art piece is the art piece itself in action
oh by the way, the thing actually sold to museums were just display instructions. the actual banana and duct tape are really just storebought bananas and duct tape. there were three of these sold, one of which was sold for millions of dollars to a crypto investor (who then ate the banana on stage), and the art piece itself is titled "Comedian"
i just find it annoying that people dislike it just for being unconventional
I believe it's disliked for being sold for millions despite being low effort. Many skilled artists struggle with paying groceries, but Cattelan made millions just because he's established and has connections. Not everyone can earn a living by showing up at a museum and trying to pass any random object as art.
If Comedian was made by a starving artist in their studio apartment, it wouldn't have gotten the attention and it wouldn't have been sold for anything. Do you see the problem here
all of my stories boil down to "neurodivergent person gets a bit too interested in the eldritch horrors"
i love writing dialogue i hate writing everything else so my writing is just an endless column of quotes without dialogue tags
