" thank you , " leaf smiled sincerely . the promise to be there for days spent at the lake might not have sounded like an extremely sentimental or grand promise , but it did mean a lot to leaf . particularly ever since he experienced such a traumatic near death experience at the hands of the shrike killers , any promise , big or small , held so much weight ; it was no difference here , with evie . " i couldn't agree more , " leaf told her with a grin - talking about making the most of the day , not agreeing that every day was a perfect day . leaf had been through far too much to ever believe in that , no matter how bubbly and positive they still were regardless . they copied her actions , pulling their shirt over their head and dismissing it on the ground before enthusiastically running behind her , into the cool water . as the water splashed up around his legs , he let out a happy laugh ; he had missed these moments , these days .
evie never made promises she couldn’t keep. all her interactions were genuine. her promises were never made without thought behind them. promises meant a lot to her. and she was glad she could give someone comfort with it. seeing people smile made her genuinely happy. she had a sixth sense of sorts. she could sense people’s emotions. tell when someone was truly happy. she could tell leaf was truly happy at this moment. she hopes that she was at least some part of it. she stood knee deep in the lake and watched as leaf joined her. as they splashed in she shielded herself, before splashing water back in their direction. “so when’s the last time you’ve done this?” she asked with a laugh.
"I'm sure. I was stupid to think I wouldn't see anybody that knows me, my head just automatically assumed it was someone who also knew I'm supposed to be at work." Mingyu replied with a soft laugh, shaking his head. Usually being a social butterfly had its perks, but in situations where he was more or less trying to be invisible, he guessed it had the opposite effect. "I'm really not! I have never skipped work before, but the idea of being stuck in the dark on such a nice day was just too much." He dramatically raised a hand to his forehead, as if he had just stepped into a theater production. "Forgive me my sins, I am just a man." The blond then dropped his hand again and grinned sheepishly. "So, have you tried the water? Is it any good or is it too cold?"
“you can never be to safe when it comes to skipping work. and never let your guard down. that was your first mistake.” she said as if she had the secrets to skipping work with no repercussions. “and i know it may be easier said then done, but you need to enjoy yourself. you already took the risk. whatever happens will happen.” evie hate being stuck inside during the summer months. especially on a day like today. if she had the choice she would never choose to stay stuck inside when she could be outside. it didn’t really matter what the temperature outside was. “to work and sleep are the only time you’ll see me inside on a day like today. it might not be the same but maybe go after work next time. it will definitely ease your anxiety.” it’s obviously not ideal, but it could be a solution, and at the very least a happy medium. she let out a laugh at his theatrics. “it might not mean anything but i say you’re forgiven. which means you can finally enjoy yourself. don’t waste the moment you got.” at his question she got up from her seat to stand in front of him. “why not find out for yourself?”
Lila managed a laugh, "I don't think much could disappoint me after this shift. I swear every customer I've had to deal with today has been a nightmare. Just a bunch of people trying to get outfits at the last minute and then getting upset if we don't have something in their size or the exact color they wanted." She rolled her eyes. Retail wasn't a job that suited her well, especially in a store she thought was too uppity for her tastes. It was better however, than something like cleaning up after people here as a janitor.
"Eight's fine by me, there's still enough people finishing up whatever shopping they have to do by that time." The majority of people tended to clear out a little before then, but there were still enough people there by that time that Lila wasn't completely opposed to being there. "It's not too late by that point to get a ride from someone or at the very least find someone to walk the majority of the way to my place with either." Not having a car was never a huge deal in the small town until more recent times. "Turns out saving up for a car isn't as easy as it sounds."
evie was a people’s person. which meant she was excellent fit in customer service. despite the annoying customers that came through she was able to stay positive throughout. but she couldn’t help but agree with what lila had to say. as positive as she was there where some customers who where just a literal nightmare to deal with. she kept her smile on and got them out as soon as possible. “you think people would learn to stop shopping last minute, but they never do. and they probably never will.” she says with a huff.
evie walked home every night. she had no license and usually doesn’t like bothering people for a ride. only in emergencies did she ask for a ride. and to this day she’s only done it three times. the more people around the better. she always liked to be home before the sun set. sometimes that’s wasn’t possible. she now knew lila could relate. lucky for her she lived only 20 minutes away from the mall in a small apartment building. “if you want we can walk home? i live 20 minutes away; and if i’m in a hurry i can get home in 10."
"Yeah, fine, sorry." The words came out a little more awkward than intended as he subconsciously tried to sound as American as possible. "I don't think I'll walk into anyone, really, you just freaked me out for a moment. I thought I got busted." He laughed, realizing how paranoid he had seemed for no reason. "I have never skipped work before and my dad might kill me if he finds out." That statement was entirely hypothetical as Mingyu was positive there was no way for his parent to find out. "I might work an extra shift over the weekend to feel less guilty. Or maybe I won't." He pursed his lips, already regretting the statement. If he could avoid work, he would. Besides, he would much rather take up extra shifts at the cafe than at Starstrike. "The thrill is pretty nice, though." He then admitted with a grin. "So this is your day off then?"
“it’s fine. your jumpiness definitely makes sense now” she gives him a face that screams “you know you did something wrong”. but there really was no judgement. more of an observation. and if it was someone who worked with her she would have forgiven them. kept it their little secret. “as long as your sure. i mean you never know.” looking from left to right to see if she could see any familiar faces. she laughs at his statement. “maybe you just aren’t the skip work type. personally i could never do it. the guilt would eat me alive for no reason at all. and i don’t think it’s a stretch to assume it’s the same for you. but since you’re already here, just enjoy it.” she hoped her words were comforting. the guilt was punishment enough in her opinion. “yeah. i’ve been here most of the day. and i’ll probably be here for the rest of the day.”
While Lila was more social at one point, there was no denying she was more closed off towards others outside her social circle in the last two years, meaning she never went out of her way to get to know any of her co-workers while working at Bloom's. That being said, she wasn't necessarily opposed to getting to know them or hanging out with them outside of work. If nothing else, it would bring a much needed change to her current routine which had grown tiring and stale at this point, or make her job a little less miserable.
"I could tag along." Lila replied, turning to the other after she finished straightening out a few things on one of the racks. "It actually sounds nice after spending so much time on my feet here today." A small bit of annoyance filled her voice, clearly displeased with her job. "You're not planning on staying there too late, right? This whole place gives me the creeps the closer it gets to closing time."
evie has always been a social butterfly of sorts. everyone can be her friend if they let her befriend them. but she isn’t one to push someone. she doesn’t want to be pushy. she lets them open up to her on their own time. and while she wanted to be friends with all her coworkers, she knew that it was best to let lila come to her when she was ready.
“trust me it is. i promise you won’t be disappointed. at least i hope your aren’t going to be disappointed.” she says with a assuring smile. “i at least find it relaxing.” she loves her early work days. it’s on these days that she can make it the pool. going for a swim after a long day of work was comforting to her. “no. I usually go home by 8pm.” she hate being out past 9pm. she always felt uneasy when she found herself out past 9pm. “but we can leave earlier if you want?”

if there was anyone else in the whole of shrike heights who could understand having an intense love for being outdoors - particularly through the summer - it was leaf wozniak . they were always found around town , in the most picturesque places such as the lake or around the commune , and so to be invited out for a day of fun at lake love today was perfect . they had a large grin on their face as they stood with evie , looking out to the body of water , sun sparkling across it . “ i’m more than happy to accompany you - always , ” it was true not only because leaf thoroughly enjoyed his time spent with friends in the nature found within shrike heights , but also because he understood what it was like to not want to be alone , particularly after experiencing the callousness of the killers . “ it really is the perfect day for a swim . ”
growing up evie spent most of her summers outdoors. her yearly family vacations spent exploring whatever city they were in. or hiking in the mountains or woods. and the hottest of days on the beach. the lake house was her favorite though. she’s upset that she won’t be able to visit this year. schedule conflict making it nearly impossible for her family. it just wasn't meant to be. so lake love was her only option. not that she didn’t love the heart shaped lake so close to home. “and you know i’m always available when you need someone.” she says turning her head to look out on the lake. a smile plastered on her lips. “everyday is a perfect day, but i’ll agree that today is especially perfect. now let's make the most of the day.” she said pulling her shirt over her head and dropping it on the ground. she looks at leaf before running into the lake.
Let it be known that Mingyu wasn't usually the type of person who lied about little things to get what he wanted. It just so happened that today he had absolutely despised the idea of going into work. The weather was great and the thought of having to spend a single minute trapped in the stuffy darkness of Starstrike made him feel just as sick as he had claimed to be when he had called into work that morning. Of course, there was a risk in going out while claiming to be too unwell to show up to work, but he knew from personal experience that the bowling alley employees were unlikely to venture any further than the food court for their long awaited lunch break.
It really was the perfect weather to spend at the pool and regain any color he might have lost being cooped up inside his workplace. Naturally, however, he experienced a tiny heart attack when he heard someone call out - the thrill of skipping work briefly forgotten and replaced with a feeling of dread. "Huh? Nothing." He was quick to blurt out, only afterwards realizing that he hadn't been asked what he was doing here. He visibly deflated slightly as he brushed his hair out of his eyes to properly look at the culprit of his moment of panic and recognized Evie. "Shit, hi." He took a moment to compose himself, trying not to feel too embarrassed by his uncharacteristic jittery behavior. "Sorry, I'm," He walked closer until he was able to lower himself into the chair beside the girl's. Mingyu cleared his throat. "I'm sort of skipping work at the moment." He confessed. "The weather's too good to be sitting in the dark and breathing in the smell of used shoes, you know?"
evie loved her job. she enjoyed being in the boutique surrounded by the colorful fabrics. and best of all was it air conditioned. but she definitely enjoyed being out of work more then in work. her days off were special. they were the days that she got to spend doing what she loved. that typically involved being outdoors in some capacity. especially during the summer. she was often times found floating around in a pool or laying on a beach chair soaking up some sun.
she looks at mingyu with a confused look. “hi. are you okay?” she asks slightly concerned. she watches him as walks over and takes the chair next to her. she sits up and puts her legs over the side of the chair so she can talk to him. “i guess i don’t blame you.” she wasn’t one to skip work, but she doesn’t blame him for doing it. t was a beautiful day, and she feels its safe to assume no one wants to be cooped up in a bowling alley for most of the day. “if i had the guts i would to. now clam down. i’ll keep a lookout for you.”
closed starter for @urdamage for anyone || as the true romantic she was, lake love was naturally a favorite spot in town for evie. she loved going out for a swim in the summer. summer was her favorite season. It wasn’t uncommon for her to spend every hour she could outside. if she wasn’t working she was basking in the sun. a tan was slowly starting to form. She stands next the person she brought with her. “thanks got coming with me. i just didn’t want to come alone.”
closed starter for @ofchrysoprase for anyone || evie sat outside the pool on a reclining beach chair at the local community pool. despite having a personal pool at home she liked visiting the community pool to socialize. she wore a polka dot two piece and had her favorite red heart sunglasses on. she was soaking up the sun when she saw someone familiar pass by. “hey.” she called out hoping to get their attention. “when did you get here?”
closed starter for @retrocuts || despite working with lila almost everyday she doesn’t know much about her coworker. evie was a social person and it was in her nature to know those who became apart of her daily routine. so she took it upon herself to try and get to know her. or at least try. she approaches the older women with a smile carrying a stack of freshly folded blouses. “so i’m going to the pool after work. i just wanted to see if you would maybe want to go.”
hey look, it’s genevie “evie” kouri! they’re 21 years old, they’ve lived in shrike heights for two years, and they’re currently working at bloom boutique. i heard they’re pretty hedonistic, but i think they’re so individualistic at the same time. can they make it out alive?
