Korg MS10 + MS20 + Novation Bass Station II + TipTop Audio ZDSP. One take.

I finished wiring up B17′s patchbay the other day, and whilst testing everything out, I managed to record this little ditty. Three synths, two hands, one take. I’ll be writing a longer post at some point about the technical and creative advantages of having a patchbay in a project studio. I realise that sounds beyond boring, but such a “simple” addition can actually revolutionise a workflow and creative environment.

lickingorchids first EP out!

Hello all,

So I’m guessing this is my first proper post here, and an exciting one to kick things off with too. Over the last year or so I’ve been working with a friend of mine, Rosie, who writes and records incredible songs in her bedroom then gives me the stems to mix and do other things to. I guess the latter is called post-production, but it tends to feel mostly like fun experiments, and seeing-what-happens-when-I-do-this.

Not only that but it’s also been one of the first projects carried out predominantly in Studio B17 in Bristol. These four tracks have not only been developed by Rosie and me, but have also seen the development of B17 as a working creative space, and into some kind of music studio, though not as most people know it. Working on these tracks gave me an idea as to what should be implemented in B17 both creatively and artistically, producing a creative system which is easy to use but expansive in range, as well as these tracks as we went.

So listen below and see what you think. I think we’re both proud of what we’ve done here.
