Oh my god I actually posted something! Way to go me! Idk painted that today mainly because I just needed something fun to work on and zone out. There’s just been too much goin through my brain, especially after Tuesday it’s hard to turn it off. I mean, it probably wasn’t the BEST idea considering I’m super behind on three assignments but it’s honestly been way too long since I’ve made something for me :)

Inktober- day 2 Finished with 30 minutes to spare! I almost forgot today. I'm playin it pretty fast and loose with the themes so I think I'm gonna drop em unless some of them pop out at me.

Fun Zimbits doodle I’ve been working on to blow off steam in-between assignments, it was really fun. Figured I’d finish and post it bc it’s update week! And I’ve just been having so many omgcp feelings lately..

(also if you dont think that Bitty has made Jack do the Dirty Dancing lift with him at least a dozen times then you’re wrong)

The picture isn’t the best but I finally finished my self-portrait still life! There are a few things I would probably change but I’m actually really happy with it and I got some really good feedback during critique. So far I love working with watercolor, apparently our next assignment is focusing on figures and background relationships so wish me luck on that!

Ugh so today in Narrative Drawing we had to complete a drawing in class from a prompt given at like, 9 the night before. Which was super nerve wracking especially because I also had a Geology exam this morning so today has been super stressful, but I made it!

Not the best drawing I’ve ever done, but I’m really into the concept. I’m probably going to play around with it later. Honestly I can’t wait to work with something other than graphite in that class

Hey! What advice would you give to a 15 year old looking to be a Concept Artist as a future career?

I typically answer messages privately, but I’m going to post this one publicly because it’s indicative of over half the messages I receive. In no particular order:

1) Sacrifice that one thing that’s stealing your drawing time. I can’t tell you what it is, but you probably thought of it as soon as you read that last sentence. You have thousands of bad drawings to flush out of your system, don’t let that thing slow you down. 

2) Draw things that challenge you. Don’t get stuck drawing the same comfy things over and over. Draw the stuff you know you keep avoiding. 

3) Finish stuff. You develop discipline when you actually take an image to completion, or finish a short comic, or get through a long round of studies. 

4) Find a community (no matter how big or small) that fosters and encourages critique. Don’t just put your work up and wait for the “cool!” comments. Explain to other people what you were trying to accomplish, and let them tell you how you failed. Then, bandage up your ego and repeat. Forever. 

5) Learn everything you can. Read fiction and non-fiction. Learn about storytelling and anthropology and history and mathematics and mythology and art. Watch documentaries about subjects that fascinate you and even more about subjects you’re not interested in. Go for hikes, draw architecture, paint your friends, get a library card and use it so much you have to get a replacement. Turn your mind into a net and try to snare as much of the world as you can, then show us what you saw.

Spent sometime planning for a larger water color still life for class that includes my favorite hat! Tbh I'm a little apprehensive to start the actual piece, I haven't worked large-scale with watercolors before O__O
