AT A GLANCE — DEATH TW » The Hahn’s are known for running the local funeral home for generations, serving all of Lunar Cove since 1980. Taking over the family business had always been expected of Finn since the day he was born, but it wasn’t something he really wanted to do. Like his grandmother, the young banshee found solace in art and was determined to go to an out of state college after high school. It took days of convincing his father before he agreed, and after some words of encouragement from his mother, he was off to pursue his passions. Finn’s time out of Rhode Island were some of the best years of his life. He lived like a human, formed many friendships, and fell in love. He also experienced death for the first time, the loss of his girlfriend causing his first banshee scream. Finn considered never coming home, but the Hahns were the only people he knew who’d teach him how to handle grief. And so, the banshee headed home without looking back. Although there were times Finn felt like his father was a little too happy to have him back, he knew returning home was a choice he made. He was happy while he was away, but there was nothing like being with family. ............... It’s been four years since Finn has returned to Lunar Cove and he’s now working with his father as a mortician at Tranquil Meadows: Funeral Home and Mortuary. Just last year, Finn has started adding a little bit of himself to their business, providing portrait paintings of the deceased. The passing of both of his grandparents earlier this year proved to him that grief would never get easier. Still, he can understand it a little bit better and is learning to find peace with it.

As he made his way back up the cliff once more, Nico was hopeful that no one would call him out for using the scorching sun as an excuse to escape from small talk. Because… he’s very sorry, he’d really love to stick around and chat some more but he’s overheating (sad eyes) and has to go cool off—again, yeah—actually he can’t handle the chlorine, y’know, in the pool? But you go ahead! And yeah, cliffjumping is kind of dangerous, if you’re not careful—no, unfortunately he won’t be judging the wet t-shirt contest—Ha! Ha! Yeah, he would rather jump off a cliff! But you enjoy yourself! Remember to hydrate, and wear sunscreen!

Today it appeared that the only remedy for his growing discomfort was a three second freefall, and adrenaline rush, and the sharp sting of blissfully cool ocean waves on his skin. And maybe later, alcohol. But arriving at the top, he realized he wasn’t up there alone. There was someone else there, staring down at the drop. Nico approached, purposely noisy. “Hey, you jumping? I can hang back, ‘til you’re clear…”

                      Finn wasn’t exactly sure what was up with him. He knew it was because of the anniversary, the date refusing to leave his memory no matter how desperate he was to forget it. Still, even if he knew it was because of her, he didn’t know what to do about it. Moping around in his apartment was not helping, especially not in this heat. And so, the banshee left his apartment in some sort of desperate plea to snap himself back into reality— or to make him feel something, anything. Strolling towards the harbor was starting to feel like a bad idea, but the second Finn laid his eyes on the cliff at the very end of the beach, he couldn’t think of anything else. It was as though he was on autopilot, hiking up the mountain in his jeans until he reached the cliff. There were a few signs detailing it was the designated jump spot for the party going on in town, which almost made him leave, until Finn realized he might’ve been the only person wanting to jump off this cliff so early in the day. 

He doesn’t move for a while, standing a few feet from the edge as he looks out towards the water. She used to love cliff jumping— her need for adventure like no one’s he’s seen before. She loved the water.. she loved swimming. His brows knit, the tightening of his chest beginning to ache until a voice called out to him, Finn turning immediately. “Oh— “ he steps back, shaking his head. “No, uh... at least not right now.” He shrugs, attempting to ease the tension surrounding him. “It’s been a while since I’ve jumped off of anything this high,” he manages a chuckle.

“Do me a favor? Pass me that shirt?” A smile played at the corner of the vampire’s lips as she unabashedly motioned with a tilt of her head to where her pink prada tote was sitting a few chairs away with a dry Gucci t-shirt folded and tucked nicely inside for her to change into the moment she came down off the stage. Her currently white top almost completely soaked through from having participated in the wet t-shirt contest herself. “So, you planning to get up on stage yourself or?”

                  There weren’t too many times that Finn considered his cursed misfortune as actual bad luck, having once (or twice) entertained the thought that banshees were just unfortunate pixies. He remembers hearing such a statement made during school— a tactic a group of pixies used once or twice to feel superior. In truth, it was only until this recent decade did he consider that he was as banshee as they come, misfortune and all. Such unfortunate events had a snowball effect of sorts, which is what he really thought when it came to being back in Lunar Cove. He knew others were saying the same thing. After all, what else would you expect from a family of banshees? He didn’t really like thinking about that sort of thing, but having to end up next to the belongings of the wet t-shirt contest contestants by chance, really seemed to just summarize all of that up. He wasn’t too caught off guard when Meena spoke to him. He was watching her since he arrived, catching the event as she was leaving the stage. Still, even that was embarrassing to admit... but was it? It wasn’t like she remembered him. Taking hold of the shirt, he makes his way to her, shaking his head. “Oh, no... I was just passing by,” he manages to get out, handing her the shirt.

                    “Oh shit!” were not the first words Finn expected to hear as he was leaving the beach. He turns at the crowd with twisted brows, seeing a guy excitingly leave Happy Scoops with three ice cream cones, a few others following behind him. It took a minute, but when he realized the power was out, Finn didn’t react too differently. Instead, he continued strolling normally, sure that this whole fiasco would blow over within a few hours. He knew Tranquil Meadows had their own backup generator that should last, so what was there to worry about? Besides, it didn’t seem like people were panicking. Except for the owners at Happy Scoops, of course. Making his way past the shops, Finn brushes shoulders with another. “My bad—” he says automatically, pausing when he realizes it was Anna. Finn smiles, easing at the sight of her. “Hey, didn’t see you there...” he pats her arm, gesturing towards the shops. “Looks like the power went out. I can’t remember the last time we had one of those,” he can’t help but chuckle, unaware of the glowing moon behind him.

                  Since leaving Anna at the Faerie Ring, Finn started to feel a lot calmer than when this whole thing started. He didn’t panic right away, but when he realized the overall cell service in Lunar Cove took a hit, he started to. The banshee started walking around town in order to find a better signal, raising his phone up every couple of minutes in hopes of seeing just one little bar gracing his screen. He knew if the power was out here, it was out in Echo Acres too... and that was not good for the funeral home. Finn knew he had to find ice without his father having to ask for help, but before he had the chance to check out the liquor store down the street, he came across a crying child sitting at the edge of the sidewalk. Finn approached her without really thinking, getting to her level with his elbows on his knees, tilting his head. “Hey kiddo, what’s wrong?” He should’ve realized what was wrong, given the situation at hand, nodding as she explained losing her mom through sniffles and tears. Taking a moment to figure out what to do, Finn jumped slightly as the little girl’s eyes widened, gasping. She pointed across at something across the street, wiping her cheeks. “I know that man!” Getting to his feet, Finn turns, brows knitting to see she was pointing at a man turning at the same time.

     Tradition, in Florencia’s mind, was simply obeying the societal obligations of dead people. For this, she cared little for it. If everybody behaved in a certain way simply because that’s “the way it had always been done,” then nothing would change. The thought of stagnation made her skin itchy, so she opted to forgo most things ‘expected’ of her, in an effort to do things her own way. Mourning, and the ghost of grief, was included in that. Since her return to Lunar Cove, she had spent each August 27th retracing the steps of that fateful day in 2002. Her family opted to spend the day mourning in their own ways - often at her father’s graveside. Perhaps this was remnants of teenage rebellion, or perhaps it was simply an act of masochism. She could not forget him, nor forgive herself, if she tortured herself each year with the events of that day.  And, each year, after retracing her steps at the fishing dock, she would end the excavation into Sunny Harbour with a small bag of jellybeans, only in red and yellow, as they were the only food permitted on a Guzmán fishing trip. 

     Her visit to Sweet Tooth, intended to be brief, had been impeded by the reorganization of the store in the past 365 days. The mission of relocation of the treats was beginning to set foot, before another unexpected interruption occurred, much to her chagrin. Her eyes followed the direction he had gestured towards, which allowed the situation to only make slightly more sense, though it was a tentative understanding. “Sure…” The monosyllabic became drawn out, lilted at the end. “So, uh, babe,“ she paused, wondering the depth of this pool he wished her to wade into. “Did you manage to find the jellybeans? Remember, only red and yellow. They will compliment the wedding colours perfectly!” 

                  He was sure his memory hadn’t failed him, but it was only when he met eyes with her that Finn realized the person he was asking, was the same woman he danced with a month or so ago. Her name was easy to remember— after all, how could you forget a name like Florencia? Finn couldn’t help but fall at ease as quick as she was to comply, but before he had a chance to respond, he heard a voice speak a few steps behind him.“Did I just hear the word wedding?” Finn doesn’t have to turn around to know the woman was smiling, deviously so, but he turns anyway. “Ah... Ms. Martin,” he greets, giving her a short smile as he moves to stand beside Florencia. His brows quickly knit, realizing he hadn’t even had the chance to give her any context. The banshee heaves in a deep, subtle breath in hopes things would go smoothly... but he couldn’t help but remind himself this is why he shouldn’t lie or pretend. Not only was it impossible for him to do so (he was a fae, after all) but lying almost always dug a deeper grave. “I see this is why you’ve been avoiding my invitations, Finn. You could’ve told me you were engaged!” she says, eyes drifting towards Florencia. She gives her a smile he swore was a bit condescending, despite her friendly words. “You should really do something about this one. I thought he was single so I’ve been trying to set him up with my niece,” she laughs. Finn looks at Florencia for a moment, unsure of what to say. What in the world was he supposed to do now?

Leyla practically let out a light yelp. Clasping a hand over her mouth as she felt his deep voice tickle her ear, she slowly spun around on her heels to face him. “Oh! Um, hi,” She smiled up at him despite her heart still beating wildly against her chest for having been snuck up on in such a way. “I didn’t see you there? And oh?” Her eyes widened once more as she glanced down to the book in her hand. Her face turned a beat red as he teased her about the selection. “Oh, yeah. I was just- I was just curious,” She explained away, quickly moving to shove the book back on the shelf on which she found it. Only for her brows to knit and for her to remove the book back off the shelf once more. “As to why it was on the Sci Fi shelf. It should be in the romance section, shouldn’t it? I mean whether or not Fifty Shades is a Romance is probably up for debate, but it definitely fits more over there than here with Dune and Doctor Who’s a Brief History on Time Lords, don’t you think? So, I’m just going to put this back over there. But, how are you? How’s your week been going? Enjoying the heatwave?” She asked, cringing slightly at the questions that had just come out of her mouth, as if anyone truly enjoyed a heatwave…

                   It wasn’t until he had been a consistent reader for years that Finn realized how vulnerable it was to buy books. In hindsight, buying books isn’t really a big deal, but he had developed the habit of watching what people bought during the first few months of knowing his past girlfriend. It was a tough habit to break, but judging what people were reading really brought them together before he had enough courage to ask her out. ‘Judging the people by the books they were buying’ wasn’t something they practiced a lot, as Finn didn’t even realize he was doing it. At least, not until after he listens intently to what Leyla has to say in return. “Enjoying the heatwave?” he can’t help but laugh. “I mean, it could be worse but I’m not enjoying it that much to say otherwise.” The banshee remains smiley for a moment, tilting his head before speaking again. “Anyone ever tell you that you tend to ramble?” he asks, recalling the time she asked him a similar question. Once the words leave his mouth, however, Finn is reminded and a certain heaviness tugs at him— as if to remind him that he can’t be without it. “I just, uh... I don’t remember you really doing that last time.” He intended his last comment to seem more adoring than anything, but ...there was a small stubbornness to him that wanted to relate that part of her to Eda. She did that too, didn’t she? He didn’t hang onto that thought for too long, anyway. That was the past, after all.

When & Where: Heavenly Healing Spa ...in the late morning!

                   Expelling a tired yawn, Finn makes his way towards the spa without much enthusiasm. He wasn’t really into people touching him, given the whole vision thing, but he wasn’t about to waste a coupon that was gifted to him. The banshee wasn’t entirely sure who bought it, only aware that his mother got it from a friend, but didn’t have the time to attend any Heatwave festivities. Either way, all Finn was banking on was the possibility that he’d get to sleep somewhere a bit nicer than his own bed. The chances were low, but he had the time and was always open to new experiences (within reason, of course). Entering the building, Finn is met with reception who is quick to greet him. He smiles awkwardly, approaching the marble counter. “I have this...” he says, clearing his throat as he places the coupon before them. Assuming they’d just take him into the back, Finn pauses when he notices them looking at him, checking their surroundings as though they were looking for an additional person. “Do you not have anyone with you, sir?” With knitted brows, Finn shakes his head. “What do you mean?” Getting to their feet, their receptionist takes a pen and points out the details of the coupon, reading it aloud as they dragged their pen along with the pairing words. “This is a coupon for couples— we don’t allow this service for guests who are by themselves.” 

Oh. 

It takes a minute, but Finn does manage a response... of sorts. “—Oh...” Just then, the doors behind him open, but the banshee is far too wrapped up in this to check. Should I just leave? ....Should I ask how much a solo service is since I’m already here?

Where: Bumblebee Tea

Dilan had to admit that the heatwave was annoying, but it did have certain perks to it. One of which involved numerous shops offering free things. She planned to take full advantage of that, even if she wasn’t hungry or thirsty; at the end of the day it was free which meant she needed to take advantage of it. Walking her way over to Bumblebee Tea for her free sample, when she finally arrived the line was at a halt. Standing at the end of the line behind the last person, she impatiently waited in line. Checking her phone as she clicked a few keys and answered a few emails. After what felt like an eternity she tapped the man in front of her to get their attention. “How long have you been waiting?” She asked bluntly. Figuring now wasn’t the time for pleasantries. “This line seems to be at a stand still. While I love free things, I will not be waiting an obscene amount of time for shaved ice samples.”

                   At thirty, Finn knew he was really testing his limitations when it came to his craving for sweets. He always had a handful of sweets stashed in random places at work and home, not to mention the occasional peppermint found in a shirt or pants pocket. In truth, the banshee hadn’t really thought about it that much until now, the reality of it all sinking in the longer he stood in this line. He wondered why he was meant to contemplate that now— given how fast all the other free sample lines went. He figures it might be his sense trying to clock back in and remind him that while he is a fae that has an immunity to all sorts of diseases, he is not immune to stomach aches or cavities. Sighing, Finn considers leaving until he feels a tap on his shoulder. “Waiting? Oh, uh...” he hums, looking up for a moment. “close to fifteen minutes? I think one of the cashiers said something about one of their machines breaking down, but I’m pretty sure a witch just went back there to fix it,” he chuckles, shaking his head. “They couldn’t wait for the maintenance guy, you know?”

Where: Bonfire 

Poppy never was one to miss a good bonfire especially when Reese was the one who was lighting it up. As she stood there watching it come to life, she smiled, walked over towards the table that had the pokers for the s'mores on it. Watching as they were taken off the table quickly and she went to grab the last one, but she watched as Finn got it first. “Damnit.” Poppy frowned. “You beat me to it.” She remarked sadly. “Although….” Looking over at the marshmallow table, she used her telekinesis to pull the marshmallows to her. Holding onto the bag with a smirk, she waved them towards Finn. “Want to share? I mean we both have something the other needs.”   

                   Finnick Hahn was a simple man. Despite not being that interested in bonfires, he knew wherever a pit of fire brewed, there’d be a sweet graham cracker, chocolate-y, marsh-mellow-y goodness to follow. And who was he to deny such sweetness? In short, the banshee had been loitering by the consumables for the past fifteen minutes, unaware he had taken the last chocolate and graham cracker square until he saw another hand. Realizing it was Poppy before him, he was about to offer her the entire thing until she snagged the marshmallows with her powers, of course. He lets out a chuckle, shaking his head. “You witches never play fair, do you?” he raised a brow, holding the half she needs in view. “I do think you need mine more than I need yours...” he hums, waving it before hiding it behind his back. “...but if you promise not to use your floaty powers to snatch mine out of my mouth before I even take a bite, I’ll share.”

Daphne couldn’t help but chuckle at his suggestion, the irony not being lost on the vampire. “I guess you could say I have,” she nodded, “Can’t say i’m a big fan of the…tomato in them, though,” she mused, swirling around the last few drops of her previous drink as she waited for another. “I take it i’m not the one having a rough night?” she asked, curious as ever to the man’s disposition. Considering her years of working in the ER she became pretty good at reading people, even if she didn’t have her aura powers anymore. That thought sent a small frown to her face but she choked it down like the last few drops of her drink. Exchanging it with a warmer smile as her hands snaked around her fresh glass, “everything alright, handsome?”

                      While he starts nodding at her initial response, Finn nearly misses her after thought. His brows knit together, turning slowly as the statement sinks in. Tomato... but it’s mostly— Oh. He grins a bit, the irony kicking in. His brown blue eyes observe her for a moment, before she speaks again, lips pressing together in thought. Finn was having a rough couple of years, nearly a decade if he was being honest, but who wanted to hear all of that at a bar? He wondered if he actually looked as tired as he felt, given her question, but all thoughts came to a halt when a compliment reaches his ears. He wasn’t expecting to have any sort of conversation, but couldn’t help himself after she called him handsome. Was he really that needy for validation? He smiles, looking away briefly as he lifts his glass from the counter. “It’s not too rough, actually— just tired,” he says, taking a sip. “You know, work and everything.” Finn never really considered himself introverted or extroverted, but he found himself stumped without a clue as to what to say next. The vampire beside him was friendly, he should match her energy. And so, he turns with his hand in between them, ready for a shake. “I’m Finn,” he greets, trying not to seem as awkward as he feels.

Her bag might have been full, but Reese still tried to fit another peach ring into the top of the bag. Might have to go for bag two. If she left this around the Inn Chai and Tony were likely to scavenge it if she looked away for more than two seconds. Yup, second bag it was. Reese was grabbing a second bag when she heard a desperate cry for help. She grinned wolfishly, “It’ll cost you. Whatever two bags of candy costs anyway.” Before giving him a chance to back out, Reese linked her fingers with his before bringing them up to her mouth with a giggle. “Aw, babe, you’re too sweet.” She placed a light kiss to his knuckles. “I know we’re getting so much candy right now, but should we do dinner after?”

                      Finn knew when he asked a stranger for help that he would have to owe them in some capacity. After all, pretending you were with someone when you didn’t even know them was a lot to ask. So, when the brunette immediately told him he’d be buying her candy, he really shouldn’t have been taken off guard— but he was, he definitely was. She was so fast in switching things up, Finn had to take a second to reorient himself. She was good.. and that kinda scared him. “Oh—” Finn looks down at the overflowing bag in her hands, looking up at her with a grin. “I thought this was dinner,” he answers, looking through her choices. “I didn’t throw those gummy bears in for no reason.” Hearing some shuffling behind him, the banshee looks over his shoulder for a moment, sighing as he turns back to her. “Now they’re gossiping,” he mutters, shaking his head.

After yet another frustrating and nonsensical “review,” Bea had just about lost it. Normally she could care less about Sucre reviews and often took them into consideration when she was developing new recipes or looking to see if current recipes needed adjustments. They often helped when she wasn’t sure if new pastries were going to make it to the permanent menu, but she could only take so many “needs more sprinkles,” reviews before she snapped. Which was how she ended up in Sweet Tooth, with a cellophane bag full of rainbow sprinkles. They usually didn’t have many on hand at Sucre and she didn’t have time to go through a supplier, so Sweet Tooth sprinkles it was. Bea was forcefully spooning another scoop of sprinkles into her bag when she heard a familiar voice. “Uhm…” turning to see Finn, Bea paused, it was a bit awkward to just start– but his face. “Sure,” she said lowly, her eyes darting around the store for a moment. She slowly placed the scoop back into the candy bin and looped her arm through his. After a beat of awkwardness, she sighed and leaned a bit more closely into him, “So, what else are you thinking of getting… honey?” Bea turned to hide as much of Finn’s body as she could from the woman at the counter.

                    What else are you thinking of getting... honey? The banshee did his best to hide his grin, the urge to tease Bea on her choice of pet names desperate to break free. Still, Finn had to compose himself. The lady at the counter had been bothering him for the past month to date her niece, for who knows why, ever since he had taken cared of her sister’s funeral. It was just a completely odd situation to be in, and Finn had been doing whatever it took to avoid her. So what if that meant pretending to be a couple with one of his closest friends? ...And new... fae queen.... was this a bad idea? Did Lunar Cove have their own TMZ? “I was thinking after you pretend like you’re not taking all of their sprinkles for Sucre that we’d head over to the chocolates,” he offers, patting her head after wrapping his arm around her shoulders. After a beat, he leans down to whisper, “Seriously though, I can’t leave without getting some chocolate.”

Jonah never paid much attention to things that go bump in the night, as a kid sure there was a worry about monsters being under his bed, but that was a fear brought about by age, and as he grew up it only became something to laugh about. Now? When silly childish tales of vampires and werewolves were real, nothing made sense anymore and every creek, every noise made his heart thud. 

Working late night at the aquarium was more a necessity than choice, his research needed to be entered and he didn’t have enough time in the day to do it. Thankfully, once having gotten into a rhythm the only noises Jonah concerned himself with were the clacking of keyboard and the soft sounds of water, so when footsteps echoed through along with the opening and closing of doors, he nearly jumped out of his skin.

Reaching for his glasses, and a flash light knowing the dim aquarium lights wouldn’t be much of help, Jonah slowly and cautiously left the safety of his room and into the main area, hoping and silently praying that it was just the octopus escaping its tank again. Magical town or not, wishes unfortunately would’ve remain unanswered as he shone light on bipedal instead. “¡Dios mío!” Light clattering to the ground as his hands flew to muffle the scream that rang out, Jonah waited for his heart to a somewhat steady beat before the apology was stammered out, “I’m - I’m so sorry, ar-are you … okay?”

                  Finn knew it was creepy to stare at something for anything longer than a minute, but he couldn’t help himself. He had passed by the Yellow Submarine twice this week, as though a force was drawing him near it. He had briefly walked in after not visiting for years, but left quickly when he recognized a friend of his grandmothers. It wasn’t personal, really... Finn just wasn’t ready to hear the ‘I’m sorrys’ and ‘she was great’ speeches. Still, the banshee couldn’t deny the pull the building was giving off and wondered if going in at night could ease him into visiting during the day. He sighs, slowly getting to his feet as he’d figured checking it out wouldn’t hurt. After all, it wasn’t like he was breaking in ...there was a car still in the parking lot.

Despite believing he wasn’t breaking in, Finn entered the building as cautiously as possible. He wanted to walk around without disturbing anyone, determined to get in and out within a few minutes. He really just wanted to break the ice with this place, but when he enters a random room, he’s taken aback by the large tank that stretched from the ceiling to the floor. Looking down at the light from his phone, Finn quickly turns it off as he’s drawn to what little light illuminated from the tank. It felt strange to be enamored by something he had seen many times as a kid. Everything felt so different, empty. He wasn’t sure if fish slept, but he figured they might be given the lack of activity behind the glass. He hums, relaxing as he stares blankly at the water. 

The sound of something falling startles him, Finn sitting up as he turns to see another— equally startled, and their flashlight on the floor. “Y-yeah, I’m good,” he nods, getting to his feet. Finn can’t help but feel apologetic as this person, who clearly worked here, had every right to be scared. “I didn’t mean to scare you, I just—” he pauses, unsure if complete honesty was the best policy right now. Finn knew his excuse wasn’t really... that good of an excuse. He was still trespassing and figured ‘looking for his little cousin’s toy’ wasn’t going to fly. Mostly because he didn’t have a little cousin and just thinking about saying that out loud made his stomach hurt. Still... he really couldn’t think of anything better than the truth. “....I wanted to look around,” he sighs, embarrassed. “I’ll leave, I’m sorry—”
