Daphne Deveaux began her life in the rainy city of Seattle in 1964. The youngest of three children, she was born to Nora Farrell and Matthew Deveaux, a descendant of the founders of Deveaux Enterprise. Originally from Louisiana, the family of witches moved a few years before Daphne was born when Matthew became CEO of the real-estate company’s Seattle office. Although the adjustment was hard for the family, they managed as best they could, given the supernatural circumstances. Daphne was always a bright girl who fearlessly walked those Seattle streets with her spunk and charisma in tow. She was consumed by a fiery spirit and warm compassion for others that sprung from her witchy powers of Aura Reading, Healing, and Fire Manipulation. As she grew up, her parents grew more disappointed that their daughter didn’t show any interest in the family business, but was not completely surprised considering her strong personality and drive to help others. After a gap year of traveling and the cliched excuse of “finding herself,” Daphne set her sights on a nursing career.
With her newly achieved nursing degree at 24, the young witch began her life of adventure as a traveling nurse. After a few years of this lifestyle, she eventually found herself on assignment in the hustle and bustle of New York City. Consumed by the lights and city streets, she used her time off to sample the local nightlife with her nursing friends. Since it was the 80s, it was a night filled with gnarly beats, dancing, and copious amounts of alcohol and cocaine. There isn’t much she remembers from that night, or that she’d want to remember if given the choice. The details that do stand out for her include stumbling to her car, fumbling with her keys, and her skull meeting the cold ground when she was attacked from behind. Daphne still remembers the beast thrashing at her skin as she attempted to use her powers to no avail. When it was all over, Daphne could only lay there, feeling her cold, paralyzed body blend into the dampness of the night streets. As she waited for the warm embrace of death, a blurry image of a woman appeared to her. Daphne used what little voice she had left to plead to the angel to spare her. To her confusion, she woke up hours later disheveled, with the taste of pennies in her mouth, and riddled with questions. Her savor, a woman she now knew as Meena, explained to Daphne what happened and that she had saved the girl- but not at significant risk.
Meena disclosed that Daphne was now a vampire, as well as all the blessings and curses that came with this second chance at life. Although Daphne was horrified by the news, she managed to thank the woman and took in as much of the knowledge imparted to her as she could. Along with this information, her new sire left her something else- a pamphlet for Lunar Cove. She’d heard of the supernatural haven from her family but thought nothing of it- much like she did then. Ever the stubborn one, Daphne tried her hardest to overcome her vampire urges on her own. After being disowned by her family for what she’d become, however, she rebelled even further by succumbing to bloodlust. The petite female went off the deep end, filling her life with the thrill of the hunt for the next decade. It wasn’t until she experienced one too many close calls with hunters that Daphne began to rethink her lifestyle. She eventually found her way back to the straight and narrow, changing her ways to protect herself and the humans she’d sworn years ago to help. It was a long, grueling process, but she found her way back to nursing, and eventually, her family. Soon after, the young vampire remembered that her sire had spoken of a place in Rhode Island that was a safe place for supernatural creatures in trouble such as herself. Now was probably as good of a time as any to seek out the safety offered, less a hunter still be on her tail. It only took one visit to the lovely town of Lunar cove for her to pack up what little things she possessed, including her dog Ghibli, to seek a fresh start in her new home.

-Although she’s been a vampire for over 20 years, Daphne has never stopped missing her Wiccan abilities, especially fire manipulation. For this reason, she can always be found with a Zippo lighter in her pocket, despite not smoking (anymore). She carries it as a comforting reminder of the warm, fiery embrace she still craves.
Ghibli is a dog that she found as a stray on one of her assignments in Nevada. He’s a black, gray, and white Australian Shepherd Mix. She found him in an alley as a puppy, and because he reminded her of a soot sprite from Spirited Away she apply named him Ghibli. Also goes by: Gibbs, Gibby, GibGib, and G-Money.
