tbh everybody always says Azula was like Ozai and Zuko was like Ursa but I would argue Azula was like Ursa, but she had the cruelty of Ozai. And Zuko was like Ozai, but had the kindness of Ursa.

Ursa was smart and good at strategies, we know this from seeing the plan she came up with to save Zuko from Ozai. Azula shares this brilliance as evidenced by literally every move she makes in the show.

Ozai, while not stupid by any means, is far from a strategist and is more about brute force, not too unlike Zuko when we first meet him.

It’s interesting, they’re most like the parents they hated, but ultimately became who they were because of the traits that were adopted/enforced by their favorite parent.

Ozai can and did concoct his own schemes -- as Prince.  When he became Fire Lord, he no longer needed to.  His politicking before his own father, parading Azula’s military knowledge and prodigious bending while undercutting Iroh’s worth as a childless heir, certainly qualifies as strategy.  It’s the same vein of underhanded tactics Azula employed throughout the show.  That being said, I still don’t see this Ursa <--> Azula connection at all.  Everyone’s welcome to their opinion, though.
