MY TIME HAS COME
so youâd need a bouquet of geraniums (stupidity), foxglove (insincerity), meadowsweet (uselessness), yellow carnations (you have disappointed me), and orange lilies (hatred). it would be quite striking! and full of loathing.
im no Florist but I thought Iâd try my hand at such a beautiful gift of absolute loathing

I hardly know who I am! What is so wrong with wanting some answers!?
(text) Mom, I've...uh...got a surprise for you and dad.
[text] Oh? Is it a good one?
ââŠI can believe that, actually. But youâre not smoking now, so youâre not that much of a mess. âŠYou wouldnât really be that much of one anyway.â Ienzoâs voice was certain, and he grinned up at Lea. âI like your hair curly, by the way-it looks natural on you.â
He watched Undine blink as her nose was booped, then continued, âI have no doubt that thereâll be someone to watch her-and no doubt that she would be good. âŠI just donât know how hard that would be on her-we donât know how much she takes in by telepathy, so she might get overwhelmed, and sheâd need to have a way to get water.â
Lea blinked up at Ienzo, a grin quirking around her lips. âAww, thank you, honey. And it is natural, sorta. Itâs what happens when my hairâs too tired to hold its magic.â She chuckled, looking back down at the dragon in her arms, turning the boop into a gentle rubbing between her eyes, using just one finger as she smiled lovingly. âMm...you have a point there, Ienzo. Though youâll have to test that eventually. She canât stay cooped up in the castle all the time, can you, babydoll?â
âEven if itâs not when weâre able to go do that,â Demyx added, finishing Leaâs thought. âThough that is what quiet times are for if necessary, and Iâd be there so sheâd have constant access to water. Itâll be alright, regardless of what you choose to do.â
(text) Mom, I've...uh...got a surprise for you and dad.
[text] Oh? Is it a good one?
âItâs not smoking, is it? Thereâs nothing worse than Even after heâs blown something up, trust me.â He gave Lea another quick hug, then smiled back up at Demyx. âWe will-itâll have to be a day that everyoneâs available to help Sora-or available to babysit if Sora wants to come.â He didnât want his boyfriend to be stuck alone with Undine if he could help it.
Undine, for her part, had snapped up the last of the fish and was now wiggling again, trying to get to her grandmother. Demyx was definitely interesting, but she wanted to meet Lea, too.
That made Lea laugh out loud. shaking her head. âNo, itâs not smoking. Right now, anyway. That has happened before.â She sounded teasing, and she was...mostly. âIâm sure thereâs no shortage of babysitters should Sora want to come with us,â she added, taking hold of the wiggly dragon as Demyx handed her over, tucking her against her chest and gently booping her on the nose with one finger while Dem re-sorted himself to two-handed water-wielding. âThough if it comes down to the wire, one of us can cast an illusion over her and put her in a baby harness so she can come as well. Youâd be a good girl for us, wouldnât you, Undine?â
(text) Mom, I've...uh...got a surprise for you and dad.
[text] Oh? Is it a good one?
âItâs a bit of a mess, but Iâve seen a lot worse.â Ienzo patted Leaâs shoulder, then nodded at Demyx. âYeah, unless theyâre really, really light. But cubes and blocks would be great.â He grinned, watching as Undine snapped at another piece of fish. âSounds good to me! We can spend a day getting you fish, dad, and her some toys.â
Lea laughed, nudging Ienzo with her shoulder before she reached out, raising a brow at Demyx for him to hand Undine over. Would give him two hands to manipulate the water with, making it a bit more of a game than just a swirl-and-snap to get her food. âWait a couple hours, honey.â That was all she said.
Dem smiled down at Ienzo, nodding. âSounds like a very good day. Weâll have to plan it out, wonât we?â
(text) Mom, I've...uh...got a surprise for you and dad.
[text] Oh? Is it a good one?
âItâs not that much of a mess.â Ienzo grinned, then watched Undine as she followed the fish within the swirling water. As she snapped at another piece, he frowned slightly, considering both of their words. âI worry that balls might roll over her and hurt her with how tiny she is, but if we can find some blocks that she canât tear apart and get stuffing everywhere, that might be good for her.â
âPfft.â Lea shook her head slightly, sending curls flying every which way. âI donât see how,â she joked, hair falling over her eyes. Demyx blinked at his son, smiling faintly at his concern. âBalls are a no-go, then,â he conceded, lips quirking. âBut that is what they make plastic blocks and activity cubes for. They canât be eaten, though they can be chewed on, and if you hit them right they work almost as well as a toddler-sized ball to chase. Plus with the cubes, you have an instant storage method once littleâuns learn to match shapes. Keeps things from being as messy as they could be.â
Neither Dem nor Lea were going to mention how they knew this, just that they did. The knowledge was going to come in handy after all, it seemed. âSo, whatâcha say, kiddo? List of things for grandparents to get?â
(text) Mom, I've...uh...got a surprise for you and dad.
[text] Oh? Is it a good one?
Ienzo leaned his head in as well, then smiled. âSo I see. Thank you.â He noticed the hair, but didnât comment, instead nodding at her next words. âOnce sheâs up to actually speaking, weâll work on that, but she takes great pains to not dry out. And if you have two hundred, I suppose you can spare one. We really need to find her some better toys, but thereâs nothing here small and safe enough, and chasing crickets seems to amuse her.â
Undine, for her part, fell still as Demyx stopped enticing her with the water, head cocked and eyes blinking. When the water came back, this time with fish, she gave a happy peep and started broadcasting cheer and hunger as her bright blue eyes focused on the fish. After a moment, she snapped at one of the pieces, then swallowed it and the mouthful of water she had gotten before focusing again on the food.
âLike I said, honey, they wear out fast under the strain of keeping this mess back.â Lea smiled, wrapping the ribbon around her hand to wait until Undine was done eating. She rocked a bit, pursing her lips while she thought, then blinked at Ienzo, raising a brow questioningly, even as she felt that little âI am HUNGRY!â sensation go through her, making her smile. âDâyou think some toddler toys would work for her? Those shouldnât be unsafe, and most âchaseâ things are just large enough to keep littleâuns from eating them.â
âEasy now, donât eat too fast, otherwise youâll get a bellyache,â Demyx said, sounding amused. He let the water swirl a bit, keeping it -- and the food inside -- within Undineâs reach as he looked up. âBalls and things, some bright soft block âboxesâ she can hunt for things in...that sort of thing?â
(text) Mom, I've...uh...got a surprise for you and dad.
[text] Oh? Is it a good one?
âAh, right. IâŠkinda remember that? Not really well, but I remember it happening.â He mainly remembered getting tired and then helping with dinner. âAnd she seems to know to not touch-she doesnât get too close. That might be because it dries her out, though.â
He watched Demyx for a moment, chuckling as Undine started snapping at the water, then asked, âYou should try picking up some fish with the water if you can. And Mom, I hope you donât want that ribbon back. The only reason I still have my shoelaces is because theyâre attached to my shoes.â
Lea laughed softly, leaning her head in a bit to touch Ienzoâs. âYou donât have to remember it, honey, itâs alright. Just suffice tâsay that it cemented your fatherâs and my parental instincts over you.â She unwound the ribbon in her braid the rest of the way, her hair doing as Demyx said and turning into a mana-exhausted, curly mess that fluffed around her head like a bush. âThatâs good, though. Just make sure she knows more that it wonât just dry her out, that it could burn.â
Demyx was concentrating on not accidentally running his little water âtoyâ into Undineâs face, so he didnât look up, but he nodded, lips quirking into a smile. âAlright, letâs see if I still remember how to pick things up...â He did, as he used his water skills just as often as Lea did her fire, but that wasnât going to stop his self-teasing. Heâd done it for too long. Little tendrils of water broke away from the main ribbon, sliding to the bowl and engulfing pieces of fish, wiggling them up the strands until the whole thing was back together again. Then Dem started enticing Undine, fish bits wiggling through the water. âAre you hungry, Undine? Hm? Can you chase the fish for me without falling?â
Lea smiled at Ienzo, eyes sparkling just a bit. âHereâs a secret, Ienzo. I have close to two hundred of these things, since I use âem to tame my hair back for work so often. They wear out pretty quick under the strain, so itâs fine. She can have a ribbon to play with when Demyx is done teasing her.â
(text) Mom, I've...uh...got a surprise for you and dad.
[text] Oh? Is it a good one?
âI rather thought so, but I figured Iâd say since she canât.â Ienzo watched Demyx bounce Undine as she wriggled, then smiled as she was finally able to swat at the water. She didnât seem to mind the cold at all as she ran her claws through the liquid, and the soft peeps that she was making were happy, if the cheer she was sending to all of them was any indication.
âSheâs not afraid of fire, at least-Iâm just glad sheâs not an ice dragon, though, or Iâd be afraid she wouldnât let Even go.â Ienzo stepped back to lean on Lea, grinning. âIf you bring her something string-like to chase, though, you might get to be second-favorite.â
âWhichâs fine, honey,â Lea murmured, smiling and leaning a bit herself, wrapping an arm around Ienzo as he came up to her. âItâs just a parental instinct. You kind of honed it in both of us when you got magicked little. It stuck.â She smiled at the vague sense of happy she was getting, recognising it as not being from herself. âIâm glad sheâs not afraid, though you make sure to teach her not to touch. And a string? Hmm...â
âOoh, look here, Undine. Watch, itâll say hi to you!â Demyx was chuckling softly, subtly manipulating the water so that it flowed over Undineâs paw and wriggled like a living thing, moving toward her and away again like a waving sea creature. âLea, if you undo your hair now, it will turn into a mana bush.â
âOh, I donât care, itâs going to be a mess anyway,â Lea âhuffedâ, reaching around behind her head to pull on the ribbon binding her hair in some semblance of a braid. âRibbons would work as toys, wouldnât they, Ienzo?â
(text) Mom, I've...uh...got a surprise for you and dad.
[text] Oh? Is it a good one?
âGood to hear.â Ienzo grinned at Lea, then turned that grin on Demyx as he was hugged. âYou donât have to worry about her falling too much, by the way-she has good balance, and when she falls, she glides with her wings. She know what sheâs doing.â
Undine, for her part, peeped semi-irritably as she was moved, wanting to keep sniffing at her grandfather. Fortunately, her irritation was soon assuaged by the water, and she wriggled, wanting to swat at the water and not quite able to. Ienzo laughed, then petted her, getting a soft peep in response. âSorry Lea, but I think I know who the favorite grandparent will be.â
âItâs instinct, honey. You stop little ones from falling,â Lea said, smiling as she watched Dem and Undine. âItâs just something you canât help after a while.â
Dem shushed the little dragon, bouncing her in his hand briefly. âNot having you flying off to touch, so shush.â Instead of letting her go when she started to wriggle, he tucked her against his chest, drawing the water-ribbon close instead. âThere, now you can touch. Itâs cold, though, watch. Your grandmotheri has to make water warm for me.â His voice was fond, amusement glittering in his eyes, which made Lea laugh again as she listened.
âThatâs alright, honey. I didnât figure Iâd be a âfavouriteâ since Iâm fire and sheâs water. Though if you want warm water, Iâll take care of that.â
(text) Mom, I've...uh...got a surprise for you and dad.
[text] Oh? Is it a good one?
âThat she is.â There was a long, put-upon sigh that was not really meant as Ienzo stepped around the chair. âI love her anyway, though.â
He leaned into the hand, then smiled as Undine sniffed at Leaâs arm, happy-curious spreading out to all of them. âGood to see you too, Mom, and that seems to be a âhi.â Sheâs not up to words yet, but so long as youâre up to taking in telepathy, sheâs good at talking anyway.â
When Demyx came over, Undine looked over, sniffing the air. The happy became excited, and she scrambled up Ienzoâs arm and onto Demyxâs, peeping excitedly. Instead of making a beeline for the fish, though, she stopped at his shoulder and gently butted against her grandfather. Ienzo looked at her as best he could, then leaned into Demyxâs arm with a smile. âI am good with hugs, and I think she can tell youâre water, dad. Maybe show her?â
âThatâs good,â Lea laughed, eyes twinkling. âLittle handfuls are still precious handfuls.â
She let Undine sniff, running her fingers over tiny horns for a moment while the dragon got to know her, smiling quietly. âIâm up for telepathy. Itâs fine...and I think I got that.â She dropped her hand when Undine moved, though, instinctively reaching out to prevent a fall, though she wound up putting her hands on Ienzoâs shoulders instead of touching Undine. She looked for a moment, then simply wound up laughing, more at the look on Demyxâs face than anything else.
Demyx did indeed have a look. A surprised one, complete with wide eyes as he got butted, twisting his head to look at Undine even as a hand came up, cupping over her gently in an instinctive effort to keep her from falling. âWell, youâll get hugs, Ienzo,â he said after a moment, shock wearing off enough to give him his vocal cords back. â...and hello Undine. Yes, Iâm water...let me hug your daddy first and Iâll show you.â
And hug Ienzo he did, wrapping his arm around his son in a tigh hug, bending to huff into his hair before straightening again, backing up a bit and gently reaching to pull Undine from his shoulder, cradling her in one arm. âNow then, just lemme hold you like this, little imp, so you donât go flying...â He held his free hand out, and a moment later, a gently-swirling sphere of water appeared in his palm, floating a few inches above it and slowly morphing into a ribbon of water that hung in the air, following Demyxâs magic. âThere we go...â
(text) Mom, I've...uh...got a surprise for you and dad.
[text] Oh? Is it a good one?
Ienzoâs voice wasnât audible until Lea opened the door, but when she did, a soft, almost-irritated litany was audible from behind the chair. âLet goâŠLet go, UndineâŠthat is not a toy, that is my shoelaceâŠ.let goâŠThere we go!â The mage himself popped up, holding a long, skinny, and entirely-too-pleased dragon at eye level. âYes, I know youâre proud for grabbing my shoelace, but it is not a toy.â When Undine peeped, he sighed, then cradled her. âAll right, all right. We have visitors, besides.â With that, he turned and grinned at Lea and Demyx as a wave of curiosity washed over the room. âHey. Meet your granddaughter.â
Lea covered her mouth with one hand, opening the door the rest of the way and stepping into the room so Demyx could follow her. âAlready being mischievous, huh?â she said, biting off laughter even before she saw Ienzo and Undine.
When she did, though, her smile quieted, and she moved forward, warmth coming to her expression when she saw Ienzo holding the little dragon like a baby. âHi, honey. Good to see you.â She moved up, reaching to ruffle Ienzoâs hair, then holding her hand out to Undine quietly, giving her the option of coming to see if she wanted to -- though she had little doubts of her wanting to, considering what she felt coming from the tiny thing. âHello, baby girl. Iâm your grandma Lea.â
âAnd Iâm your grandfather Demyx,â Dem added, coming up to wrap an arm gently around Ienzoâs shoulders, squeezing him before he put the bowl of fish down. âBearing snacks and hugs if either are wanted,â he joked, smiling at his son and the baby in his arms. âThough, Ienzo, I think only hugs for you unless you like raw fish.â
