Thinking about how Mike didn’t tell Will what he couldn’t say to El, and in the Van scene the word ‘need’ was used as opposed to ‘love’. Mike could’ve told Will that he couldn’t say ‘I love you’, while Will could’ve talked about El *loving* Mike instead of needing him. Even though Mike said he loved her in front of Will when he blurted it out to everyone in S3. It’s almost as if they’re saving Mike and Will saying the word ‘love’ to each other private for a much more important scene……

I know we don’t know anything yet so I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade, but I really think people need to be prepared for the possibility of the painting lie scene being full of angst and confusion. There is a large chance Mike gets upset about being lied to so for the sake of not being disappointed I urge people to not convince themselves that it’ll be a beautiful romantic scene with a big emotional love confession. Especially considering lot of us already built up the initial painting reveal in our heads and were crushed when it didn’t turn out how we had hoped. I trust that they’ll do it in a way that makes sense for their relationship

I don’t understand why people who ship them just can’t believe that he had feelings for her but ALSO took her in because of his morals and kindness. Whether or not you think his subsequent actions in the season were a result of romantic feelings (and I’m personally undecided on whether I think Mike is gay or bi), it’s a horrible reading of Mike’s character. To suggest that Mike in season 1 wouldn’t have any other distressed kid in need because he’s not attracted to them does his character such an incredible disservice. Mike jumped off of a cliff for Dustin. He is a kind and loving person.

It's really funny that some people think Finn is intentionally sabotaging the show because he wants Mike to be gay. And the Duffers are just at the mercy of this 20 year old (who they pay) and his gay agenda.

Just imagine:

*Finn, angrily reading the script.* "Mleven kiss?! NO! We're not doing that!!!"

*Finn rips up the script, screaming with rage.* "Mike is GAY and loves WILL. Do I make myself clear?!"

The geniuses over on Reddit have devised several theories about the cast and crew's personal lives to explain why Mike and El don't seem interested in each other, despite being soulmates.

This particular one is full of drama, betrayal, and intrigue. Finn fought with the Duffers, who decided to sideline his character. He desperately wants to play another queer character, so he began to intentionally sabotage Mleven scenes during S3. It is unclear why Finn has not received coaching regarding his performance (since he's conveying the opposite intentions of what the scenes are meant to show) and why it is impossible for the scenes he's sabotaging to be reshot.
