escaping  that  damn  lunatic  of  a  woman  turned  out  to  be  more  difficult  than  she  had  initially  thought.  sadako  was  obsessed,  an  neverending  annoyance,  an  eyesore,  an  annoyingly  beautiful  eyesore—  hanako  caught  herself  thinking  and  gasped  at  that  —  no,  no,  no,  don't  even  go  there,  you  idiot,  she  reprimanded  herself,  shaking  her  head  as  she  kept  on  marching  ahead.  besides  sadako's  annoying  attitude,  she  was  still,  the  worst  out  of  all  facts,  a  witch. 

and  hanako  had  enough  of  witches,  their  breed  suddenly  all  turning  up  out  of  nowhere  and  messing  up  her  normal  life.  or  what  was  left  of  it  anyway.  the  word  had  followed  her  throughout  her  childhood  like  a  curse,  now  she  had  the  bad  luck  of  meeting  them  in  person  too.

how  could  she  ever  imagine  to  explain  this  mess  to  anyone  else  even?  because  there  was  no  one  to  tell.  no  one  she  could  ask  for  help.  not  anymore.  even  yoshi  was  gone.

hanako  was  truly  alone.

always  had  been. 

even  her  dad  had  left  her  behind  at  a  young  age.  that  spineless  bastard,  hanako  cursed  out  loud  at  the  reminder,  her  eyes  narrowed  into  slits  as  her  fingers  curled  more  tightly  around  the  buckles  of  her  backpack.  yoshi  had  turned  out  to  be  a  disappointment  as  well.  her  one  and  only  friend...  afraid  of  her?  using  her?  the  pain  of  knowing  that  they  were  never  even  friends  had  left  her  heart  shattered.  truly,  she  could  only  rely  on  herself  now...and  finding  some  peace  and  quiet  on  top  of  the  mountain  might  bring  her  some  relief.

the  path  was  rocky  and  uneven,  trees  and  bushes  so  far  outgrown  that  they  covered  the  area  thickly  in  shadow.  the  sun  burned  against  her  back,  but  soon  even  her  light  would  not  reach  underneath  the  thick  vast  wilderness.  hanako  exhaled  in  relief  when  she  felt  the  clear  difference  in  temperature  while  walking  in  the  shade.  on  her  path  up  the  mountain  shrine,  a  place  where  no  one  should  be  able  to  find  or  bother  her,  she  grabbed  her  water  bottle  for  a  quick  drink.  she  caught  herself  staring  at  her  phone,  the  notification  popping  up  that  sadako  was  live.  with  furrowed  brows  she  stared  at  her  phone  screen  as  if  she  could  make  it  explode  by  mere  eye  contact.  just  one  swipe  of  a  button  was  missing  for  her  to  actually  watch  the  stream...  but  should  she,  really?

her  curiosity  got  the  best  of  her,  after  all.  hanako  ignored  the  poking  feeling  at  the  back  of  her  mind  that  she  just  couldn't  forget  sadako,  no  matter  how  much  she  tried.  the  live  stream  had  quite  several  views  already,  the  pretty  witch  curled  up  all  over  the  bed,  yapping  and  rolling  around  the  velvet  sheets  that  look  strangely  familiar  upon  closer  inspection.  wait,  a  fucking  second—  "ARE  YOU  FOR  REAL?!"  hanako  screamed  at  the  screen,  recognising  quickly.  it  was  her  bedroom.  her  apartment.  her  home.  and  sadako  invited  herself  in  as  if  it  were  nothing  in  her  absence.  "this  damn  witch,  i'll  beat  her  black  and  blue."

before  she  could  stop  and  think  twice  about  it,  she  had  already  typed  in  her  threats.  pure  rage  and  hatred  filled  her  as  she  furiously  kept  typing  more  "get  the  fuck  out!!",  "dumb  bitch,  i'll  kill  you",  "BURN"  and  "this  is  my  HOME  you're  breaking  in,  you  c*nt!"

whenever  sadako  came  into  the  picture,  it  was  as  if  someone suddenly flipped a  switch.  hanako's  anger  boiling,  her  skin  turning  red  as  her  steps  also  turned  firmer,  more  aggressive  and  impatient  while  reaching  the  peak  of  the  mountain  and  finally  stopping  in  front  of  the  shrine  she  had  hoped  to  find  some  peace  in.

it  looked  far  less  impressive  than  she  had  imagined,  an  eyebrow  raised  skeptically  at  what  seemed  to  be  ruins  than  a  shrine  to  ward  off  evil  beings.  was  it  really  still  working  its  charm,  hanako  wondered.  her  anger  had  not  left  her  yet,  huffing  and  puffing  as  she  was,  she  sat  down  on  the  front  porch  that  had  seen  better  days  for  sure.  the  comments  had  been  sent,  some  of  them  censored  even  against  her  will.

"i  hate  her,  i  hate  her",  she  said  quietly,  tears  prickling  at  the  corners  of  her  eyes,  now  she  really  was  getting  emotional,  dammit..  certainly  unaware  of  the  dangerous  presence  looming  in  the  back.  "why  can't  she  just  leave  me  alone?",  hanako  sobbed  as  she  placed  her  phone  aside,  head  bowed  and  palms  hiding  her  face.  she  felt  sick,  helpless,  angry,  all  at  once.

"you  poor,  poor  thing.  i  could  end  your  suffering."  a  stranger's  voice  chimed  in,  making  hanako  sit  back  up  straight  in  shock.  her  eyes  widened,  she  turned  to  look  behind  herself,  her  lips  quivering  as  she  spotted  the  creature  that  was  distinctly  NOT  human.

"wh-what?"  hanako  jumped  up,  her  eyes  noticed  quickly  the  razor  sharp  teeth  on  the  monster,  the  tongue  enourmously  long,  reaching  out  like  a  claw.  "n-no,  no!"  hanako  shook  her  head  repeatedly  as  she  stumbled  back,  dust  whirling  into  the  air  while  lying  on  the  ground,  her  knees  were  shaking,  her  heart  simultaneously  racing  inside  her  chest,  fear  instilled  into  her  body  and  mind.

 i  need  to  get  away.  fast.  she  thought,  but  nothing  but  a  scream  followed,  a  word,  a  name  she'd  never  forgive  herself  for  saying  out  loud  —  a  desperate  cry  for  help.

"s...sadako!"
