Jean Grey: Look, the Professor trusts me to fly a giant jet. He wouldn't trust the rest of you to take care of his dentures.
Jubilee: [wearing the Professor's dentures] Yes, he would.
Jean: In hindsight, I might have gone too far in a couple of places.
Shi'ar: You ate a sun.
Scott: Hey, she was very hungry, so you can't hold that against her.

Generations: Phoenix and Jean Grey
Jean Grey as the Phoenix In Uncanny X-Men (1963)
you’re a firecracker. and i am an atom bomb.
original dps is sexy because jean could set out across the galaxy destroying planet after planet full of life and scott would follow her and love her anyway
original dps is even sexier because ultimately, jean would never do that and she chooses love over destruction, even if that love means her own death
scott says “i will betray everything i’ve ever believed in for the phoenix” and jean says “but i won’t”
[after the X-Mansion gets attacked and blown up (again)]
Cyclops: You could have called us.
Kitty Pryde: You took our phones away.
Jean Grey: You could have used a landline.
Bobby Drake: I don’t know your numbers.
Storm: You don’t know our numbers?
Rogue: What’s my number?
Everyone: ...
Wolverine: Three.
Rogue: No.
halvorbragison:
“Thank you.” Halvor had been proud to die for the cause at the time, but leaving behind Raynor and his entire life was something else. “You think so? It’s like living on borrowed time. How do you fit in all the things you want to do before it’s up?” He asks not even as a serious question as he shrugs his shoulders. “We do understand each other, different experiences, but also similar too. Death is a strange thing. I always worry too that there’s a catch to being alive again — like spending bad will happen.”
“you just do,” she spoke from place of unique experience. few people had as many chances as jean had to get it RIGHT. “you get up every morning and you live each day. you don’t have to fill every moment. you just have to do exactly what you want to do - it’s rare to get a chance to do that again.” and she couldn’t blame him for thinking the way he did. the REAL shock would have been if halvor had woken up knowing exactly how to proceed from moment one. “something bad is always just around the corner. living those moments isn’t...- a catch, or wrong. they’d come without the resurrection, and they’re part of the experience.”
sammorzz:
“i’ve been a lot of places ms. grey, i’ve not seen anyone else that can do what you do.” well, sure, on much smaller scales. or with the involvement of that pit. or not being from earth at all. or a clone. we don’t get involved with superpower shit, his dad had told him on a handful of occasions. and then he turned out to be one of them- of course, on a much smaller scale. “so mutants and meta-humans- is there much of a difference there?”
“you’re flattering me.” perhaps no more than she deserved, but jean wasn’t one to have such thoughts independently. she was one of the most powerful mutants on the planet - and more than that, she was the one true host of the phoenix force, an entity that could scorch the very universe to the ground, if it so chose. he’d have been hard done by to find anyone alive with that amount of power running through their veins, and even more hard done by to find someone out there with quite as much humility as jean possessed. “i don’t think there is,” perhaps, she was the minority. “they’re both genetic anomalies. the only real difference seems to be that metahumans can go their whole life without developing their power ; and even at that, who’s to say that mutants don’t exist in the exact same boat already? just because the research hasn’t been done, doesn’t mean that it’s not true.”
blindjcstice:
“Huh.” Her death, or the fake that it had actually happened, wasn’t a well known fact—her family deciding it was the best way to keep her identity a secret after she had come back. She’d seen a therapist about, not that they were any she could find that specialized in people that came back from the dead. “I assumed the came back part. I don’t think ghosts would appreciate therapy that much.” She joked. “It seems like a useful therapy group. I don’t think many superhero or superhero-adjacent people stay dead for long.”
“you’d be surprised. emotions can be pretty tumultuous, as a specter,” she could TALK, “they might benefit just as much as everyone else.” jean’s time as the closest thing to a ghost someone could get was still fairly fresh, and she remembered how everything had been heightened - how she had felt RAGE instead of just anger, passion instead of love. it wasn’t unlike another point in her life, though she shuddered to think. “they don’t, do they? you know, there was a time when i almost thought that i had rewrote the rules we’re playing by,” it was one of her only self obsessed thoughts, and it stemmed from fear. “then i realized..- it was something else, entirely. i think we need to start addressing it, more. it’s not RARE anymore.”
ofnarcissvs:
quin had come back to life. he had missed the first few months of the twins’ lives. he had missed their first smiles and giggles. they were small when he first met them but they had been SMALLER when they were born. which he missed. because he died and wasn’t around. when he had come back , he dove right into everything that he was doing before he died without a second thought. he never really stopped to think about what he went through or how hard it probably was on him. he never stopped to think about his own emotions and like before he died , he buried them. it was easier to bury them after coming back than deal with anything. “ i’ve made peace with it , “ a COMPLETE & UTTER LIE. quin’s ‘ at peace ‘ simply meant that he ignored it. how do you deal with coming back to life but not recognizing your own body because you’re part plant ?
“have you, really?” it wouldn’t have been fair to argue, and jean never would have dreamt of doing so. she had been in quin’s position. more than ONCE, at that ; and some might have even argued that her level head about it all, now, was still a semblance of it. could anyone ever really make peace with the dying and the return? - she couldn’t say. experience was a teacher, and my god could it be a brutal one, but who out there living with that truth could honestly say that there had never been a point where the thoughts in their head grew too loud, or their sense of belonging had suffered? who could say that they hadn’t had a sleepless night or a hundred? that they had come back whole? jean couldn’t. and she was perhaps the only one in the world with such an intimate sense of what she was talking about. “you’d have to be stronger than anyone i’ve ever met, to be past it. i don’t doubt that you might be, but i do question whether you believe what you’re saying, or if you’re just being... what everyone expects you to be.”
jean: diamonds are a girl’s best friend :)
