Sometimes I feel like Ajak just burdened Ikaris with the truth about their mission and left him alone to deal with it.
Ikaris was in love with Sersi, who probably was the one that loved humanity the most. He watched her fall in love with humanity more and more everyday, watched her live with the belief that they were protectors of humanity. And all the while ( or for most of the time ) he knew it was all a lie. He knew they were just preserving the planet until it was ready to be destroyed for the birth of the Celestial.
And Ajak told him and then what? She never shared with him her slow change of heart until the very end. But by then Ikaris has already isolated himself from Sersi and from the world. Because he believed in Ajak and Arishem and she never really shared any of her doubts about the mission with him. Or at least we aren’t shown her sharing anything with him. And Ikaris was supposed to be her second in command.
I mean after isolating himself from everything and everyone to be able to keep the secret and fulfill what he believed was his true purpose, is it really surprising what he did? How far he went to protect what he believed in? What he thought Ajak believed in?
I think he’s not evil, he’s just what Ajak and Arishem made him to be. And telling him the truth she didn’t give him the chance to evolve like the others did. I think he deserves a shot at redemption, I think they owe him a shot at redemption.
