While I am a 21+ user, I can’t regulate the ages of those visiting the blog, so let’s keep this a safe space in and out of the comments.

Inbox Queue:

I typically go through my inbox in the order that requests come in. In time, I’ll answer. With that said, it may take me some time (like a few months). I don’t have plans to close my ask box because you guys generate good ideas! If you want a request completed sooner, please mention it in the ask. I’ll move it up in the queue.

If I ever decline, I mean no disrespect. It either didn’t follow the guildlines, or I didn’t trust myself to address it appropriately, especially if it’s a serious topic. Everyone should have boundaries. 🫶

Request Guidelines:

Genre: Horror, fantasy, modern, AU… anything is fine!

Topics: Any topic is welcomed - serious or silly. I’m a fan of information, so I enjoy researching unfamiliar topics. Never be worried about making a request. It won’t anger or offed me. The worse that can happen is I’ll say no or rephrase the question.

Dark Content: (harm, EDs, mental health, violence, etc.) I’m okay with discussing these types of topics in a general sense. However, I won’t go into graphic detail, and I won’t write anything that encourages or glorifies it. If it’s in there just to make the story “cool” or “dramatic”, then it’s not happening. There needs to be a reason for it, and it needs to be discussed tastefully. For example, I’ll talk about struggles MC/M6 could face due to mental health, but I won’t write about toxic or abusive pairings. If anything is serious enough, I’ll put trigger warnings in the title.

Romance Content: I won’t write anything that’s explicit or NSFW. I will write sensual, non-explicit content, like love language, general affection, physical attraction, kisses, etc. A safe estimate would be PG-13.

Controversial Content: Spirituality, sexuality, politics, stuff like that… I’m open to exploring these topics, again, in a general sense. The Arcana is a really rich world, so I feel it’s a bit of a disservice to not explore it. However, I don’t want to turn it into a fight, nor do I want any person or group of people to face any sort of negativity or harm. I’ll definitely be more careful in choosing what and how I write. For this type of content, I’ll ask that the setting remain in the original Arcana world, instead of a modern AU. Let’s keep it fictional.

Your OC’s: Yes, please! I’m always happy to write about your OC’s, so please, ask away. I’m open to non-apprentice MC content as well, since my own main MC is a non-apprentice. For more personal requests, just DM me.

Side Characters: Yes, please! I’m happy to write for them.

Abstract: I don’t see this happen much in fanfiction, but I just want to put it out there… I’m open to writing about deep character analysis, sociology of Vesuvia, linguistics in the Arcana world, countries outside of Vesuvia, how the magic would work… If I could daydream for a living, I would. The Arcana Headcanons 「Enchanting Music MC」

Asra

Good night and goodbye 👋

Asra is already at constant war with the sleepies. They’re going horizontal the moment you pick up your instrument. It’s a losing battle.

Asra is always a fan of live music. I think some of his favorite moments from his travels would be seeking out small, niche venues. Getting a personal concert from his favorite person in the whole wide world is the ultimate lullaby.

Julian

I personally headcanon that Julian’s parents sang him to sleep at night. That love for sea shanties had to start somewhere!

He’s also getting drowsy, but he’s fighting much harder than Asra does. No dream could compare to watching you make music. If he can sing along, won’t you let him? He can carry a tune, albeit his head is bobbing backwards and forwards in his conquest against the Sandman.

Nadia

Nadia loves music, and it’s a family affair. A highlight of her siblings’ visits are the moments when they share a song and dance. If she can share the same with you, then surely, her life is blessed. She hardly has time to play her own instrument, so listening to you while she does her work is a bonus.

Plus, if it’s naturally soothing, then it’s probably helping with managing her stress-induced blood pressure. I imagine she has a hankering for charcuterie boards, and all that salami and gorgonzola is a no no for high blood pressure. You’ve awarded her guilty pleasure back, and she could erect a statue of you in town for that.

Muriel

Muriel has “a thing” for this.

You sitting in the forest with a song at your hands and lips… Inanna sleeping peacefully at your side… Even the trees bowing and curling into your magic…

It’s like a fairytale. Don’t you dare let your hair down and wear something flowy. He might not recover. That face he’s watching you with? Suuure, Muriel, let’s blame it on the magic. He’s just sleepy and not at all head over heels for you right now.

Portia

You are like a siren at sea! A myth come to life! You are quintessentially everything about magic that enraptures Portia.

She’s quite fascinated and charmed, but she has little gumption to join you. She’s a bit shy about her talents, and she’s truly more than content to listen as she crochets.

“The only problem is that I keep falling asleep. I’ve been stitching this row for weeks now!”

Lucio

Oh, it’s beautiful… it’s charming… it’s brilliant…

And it’s also a tool.

“Do you think we could put that vendor to sleep? Those jewels are rather nice…”

As always, you can smack him (lovingly, of course).

Lucio’s just hardly been in a position to enjoy his talents for the sake of enjoyment. Your talents needed to produce something to be fruitful. If you sit him down by the fire for a song just for the hell of it, then he’ll finally realize why so many people with so little find this life to be worth living.

The Arcana Headcanons 「MC Dying」

Asra

I think it took about two days before reality set in. The initial calm was eerie, like fog over a great lake. What beast could be lurking beneath those still, quiet waters?

Once the mourning hits, it’s all-consuming, ripping the control straight from the magician’s hands. They cannot move, cannot eat, but they most certainly can sleep. When they’re awake, Asra speaks in whispers, and their smile has yet to fade. In their mind, there is a fantasy that you shall return, even though every inch of their body rejects the hope.

“They have to come back. They always do.”

Naturally, his parents are worried sick. Aisha and Salim stay with him, and while they cannot cure his spirit, they can at least keep him alive until grief finishes its course.

In the end, Asra is “okay”. If anything, the facade gets easier to play. Everyday, he visits your grave, and everyday, he bites back the spells dancing on his tongue that could perhaps promise a return. If death strikes twice, then it means business. He won’t toy with your soul anymore than he already has.

“But my heart still belongs to you.”

Julian

The nausea. It has him gripping the floor for days. Julian’s body is doing everything within its power to make life miserable if he’s meant to live it without you.

Eventually, it calms, but Julian is a walking corpse in every sense. There is no wailing, no dramatics, rather there is an intense silence. Mazelinka tries to make him eat, but even she knows that she can’t utilize her usual tactics. 🥄

“Whatever thread is holding that boy together is thin. I feel it best we don’t snap it.”

Of course, the clinic is still open. Years of theater have paid off because he’s playing the role impressively well. Nonetheless, everyone knows something is off about their beloved doctor.

Julian has never been a fan, nor a believer, of ghosts, but now, he often waits for a glimmer of a specter in the midnight sky with ancient bemoaning shanties atop his tongue.

Nadia

How much preparation has mi’lady had?

If the death was expected, like a long-term illness, then Nadia can cope. It doesn’t make the pain any less severe, but it’s a pain spread over a long period of time. She processes it all in digestible increments. However, if it’s unexpected, then she’s a well-managed wreck.

She knows she can’t break down as the face of the country, so she has the foresight to give herself a week off of work to grieve before it surmounts. It's a fruitful time, but Nadia has yet to learn that the biggest liars in life are emotions. They live life at their own whimsy.

The castle is like a maze of memories. Every wing and every room holds a moment with you - even Lucio’s portions have turned sentimental. Grief is like a plague. It’s crippled her from the inside out. Everything is a haze as she buries herself in work, because it's all she can remember how to do. Only her family and Portia realize the real nightmare she’s living in, and they’ve come to her side to fight the demons with her.

All in all, Nadia believes in the afterlife. She’s confident that she’ll see you again, but until then…

“Darling, I miss you.”

Muriel

He tells everyone he’s okay, so much so that he starts to believe it himself.

“That's quite a big lie you’re trying to swallow,” Asra tells him one day.

The magician nods to the bed - the bed you once shared. On the surface, it seems like nothing has changed, and that’s part of the problem - your nightclothes still folded, your pillow still indented, your blankets still ruffled. A film of dust preserves every corner of your existence in the hut. There’s even a plate of eggs waiting for you on the table.

“Muriel, this plate is still warm.”

“Yeah,” he gulps. “I made it today…”

Muriel is no fool. He knows what his friend is hinting at, and he knows that same fact has been bold-faced staring at him since the day you left. He can’t move on. He refuses.

“Letting their memory die is the worst form of death.”

Portia

Big tears, small tears, all the tears. Portia voices her emotions freely and unabashedly. Of course, she does her best to put on a brave face, but nonetheless, she wears her heart on her sleeve.

“But there are always parts of the heart that like to remain hidden.”

Portia has a two-faced relationship with death. The shipwreck… her parents… Lishka… Julian... She recognizes death’s inevitability, but she also hates that its existence is a part of life’s cycle. She fears its turn in the rotation.

As a result, she has grown rather clingy and paranoid. Everyone’s existence teeters on the edge just as her lover’s had, as her mind races with what ifs and maybes. Everything feels like a threat, like a last goodbye, like a bad omen. The colors in her world seem to have disappeared for a season, but only for a season. You can’t tell Portia that with all this magic in the world that you’re no longer here.

“They’re still here. They’re the ones that proved that death isn’t as omnipotent as it likes to think itself.”

Lucio

Lucio has lost a lot, but not many of the loses have actually hurt.

“Except my arm. That hurt a lot.”

He visits your grave everyday. He talks to you everyday. He eats with you everyday. He even sleeps next to you when the skies are clear.

Lucio supposes that losing a lover - a true lover - feels like losing another limb. Something is missing and unlike the last time, no amount of magic or gold could even come close to replacing it.

Lucio doesn’t “believe” in an afterlife. He knows it exists. You’re there.

“And I say you return the favor for all the time I visited you in the afterlife. It’s getting lonely out here, dove.”

Wherever you are, it’s probably a much better place that he landed, but still, he worries for your safety. He sharpens his blade every morning and evening, and just know, he would venture into the realms for your sake at whatever price he had to pay to get there.

The Arcana Headcanons 「M6 and Kindness」

Asra

As an orphan, Asra experienced humanity on many levels - some good, but most, not so good. He’s realized that kindness is not as promised of a virtue as the fairytales preach.

Does he value it? Yes, supremely. Does he offer it freely? Absolutely not. Since it’s so precious, it should be treated as such. People are just as likely to misuse kindness as they are to withhold it.

Asra often discounts wares at the shop, or offers herbs and readings for free to those struggling. However, they wouldn’t define that as kindness. That’s just human decency. You should do those things.

Kindness often comes in the form of gift giving. Gifts are something that shouldn’t be expected, and they signify a moment of spontaneous appreciation of another’s presence. To Asra, that is kindness - going out of your way to make another feel wanted without a need to necessitate it.

They’re always bringing you back something from their trips, but if you were to bring back something for them… wow, red in the face and giddy. Asra keeps peeking and poking at it until evening, as if it’s the eighth wonder of the world.

Julian

Julian lives and breathes kindness, and many in his life would argue that he should guard it more carefully. At the end of the day, Julian would agree, but I also don’t think he’d change his ways too much. Kindness is too hard to come by in his book, and he can't quite come to terms with the idea of protecting himself when there’s a world of hurt out there.

However, that’s not to say that there’s total disregard in his efforts. Again, he’s learned hard lessons, and now, he’s a bit wiser about who he helps. Julian very much looks at intent, and if a person’s heart is in the wrong place, then he has no desire to fuel the fire.

That’s why he’s so floored when people are kind to him. In his mind, he’s a heartbreaker, plotting scallywag, and failed healer. It’s hard for him to believe he deserves kindness.

For Julian, kindness exists in many forms - big and small. Allowing someone your place in line, offering free treatments, saving a worm from the hot pavement… However, I’d say the biggest act of kindness for Julian is massaging his feet at the end of the day. He’s either standing in his clinic or running errands in the city. No one likes touching feet, so he knows it’s selfless work.

Nadia

I think Nadia sees herself as a righteous person, but not a kind person. Whatever kindness she shows is typically due to principle rather than innate empathy. That’s not to say she doesn’t have empathy. She has plenty of it, but she can’t allow it to disrupt her ability to rule unbiased. As a result, she views herself much more stoic than she actually is.

For Nadia, kindness is a sacrifice. We see most of her sacrifice as monetary, but a lot of it is also emotional and physical. It’s an unspoken sentiment that much of Nadia's reason for staying with Lucio was the people, and after it all, she’s remained to undertake the responsibility of building the nation back up. I think that highlights the depth of her heart.

One of the greatest things you could do for her is stay. So much of her world is a whirlwind, and she can’t blame people for leaving. However, the moments where friends visit for chit-chat, the times where her family sends care packages from their home, and the days when her lover pops in to warm her tea once it’s cold - that’s kindness. People stayed even when she had nothing to give.

Muriel

Many things are ‘kind’ to Muriel, but truly, the biggest act of kindness would be saving a life. It doesn’t have to be a loud, grand gesture.

“It often doesn’t take much to save someone.”

A stranger offering their leftovers instead of trashing them… A guard sneaking medicine into his cell… In his life, sometimes, a child’s gentle smile was enough to keep him until the next breath. Muriel knows how hard it is to live, and he knows how easy it is to help.

Guiding wayward spiders out the hut… planting wildflowers for the local bees… leaving water out for wildlife during summer…

Naturally, Muriel never makes a fuss about the matter, but if you pay attention, you’ll notice the little inconveniences littering his day - inconveniences that make or break someone’s survival.

Portia

For Portia, kindness is everywhere.

“And it should be everywhere!”

She doesn’t understand why the world is so uptight about simply being nice. You don’t need to be rich, smart, or powerful to be kind. Any human has the capability to bless another.

Portia isn’t the most trusted in the palace simply because she’s capable, rather it’s because of her heart. Truly, there can be no bad intention within her. Nadia knows that Portia isn’t there for just a paycheck. Her favor can’t be swayed with glitter and gold. Portia does good because there’s no better option.

For Portia herself, a big act of kindness would be a helping hand, and sometimes that helping hand comes in the form of gentle reminders. While she certainly needs an actual helping hand at times, don’t forget that the heart is also a heavy burden. She has her doubts and her insecurities, and a kind word - even something as simple as “lovely hair today!” - goes long and far.

Lucio

Lucio is not unkind. He’s just learned that kindness is by no means a strength. It’s an open door to getting used, or in the least falling behind. I don’t think he feels good being unkind, in fact, I think it hurts his self-esteem more than he lets on. He's always having to convince himself that he’s a good person with money and fame because he knows the heart is empty.

Now, he’s in a safer space and better place to practice kindness, but the process is awkward.

“When you’ve lived your life being an ass, kindness looks fake.”

He doesn’t know when people rejected him more - when he was good or bad. At least, now, he feels better about himself, and that reason alone will keep him going.

“It’s one thing to be hated, it’s another thing to hate yourself.”

For Lucio, kindness is simply being there. He may not always know what to say or do, but if you call, he’s there.

Heyo! Long time, no update! First, a few notes...

I wanted to take some extra time to research and understand this ask before answering it. Personally, I don't identify as asexual, and I've had little outside education/exposure on the matter. With that said, please reach out if you'd like to share any comment or correction on the matter! I'm always open to learning and correcting myself and my work. :))

Asexuality is experienced in many ways, so I tried to generalize this as much as possible. However, I would say that the focus is sexual attraction and not romantic attraction. Aromanticism (ie. aroace) is certainly a valid representation and if I address it, it will be in a separate ask. :))

My environment was/is pretty against this kind of thing, so I was alone in figuring this all out when I was growing up. For all of you out there in similar situations, please know that I see and care about you! <3

The Arcana Headcanons 「Asexual MC」

Asra

They’ve done a lot of daydreaming about your return, and it’s a bit shocking to have a large part of it put into question. The shock doesn’t mean that the result is disappointing, rather it’s just different. They’ve built up the moment in their head, and now, it’s landed in a completely unexpected field. It’s time to reiterate both parties' needs and expectations in the relationship because Asra’s main concern is hurting you. Yes, they’ve given half their heart to be with you, but they also didn’t give it up to lose you again.

I’ve mentioned that I find Asra to be the embodiment of non-sexualized intimacy. While physicality is certainly a large part of their love language, I think that there is more at the forefront of his mind. Due to his lonely childhood, I imagine emotional security to be of equal priority to physicality for adult Asra. Since he’s already rewritten the definition of ‘closeness’, I think a happy medium could be found rather quickly.

Plus, Asra is knowledgeable of identity and representation, so he understands the associated misconceptions and stereotypes. Asexuality is a vast spectrum, and Asra isn’t making any assumptions. Gender and sexual expression is a lifelong exploration, so he’s never rushing you for a conclusion.

“Let’s just see where life takes us.”

Julian

Julian is progressive in nature, so new information is exciting for him.

This is 100% new information.

Yes, he’s heard of it. He’s vaguely aware, but Julian needs more than a book when it comes to learning new information. Remember - he was a field medic and seasoned traveler. So much of his knowledge was gleaned from genuine life and human interaction.

“But you don’t just walk up to strangers and ask this sort of thing…”

He has questions… lots of questions… but it’s never out of judgment. Really, he wants to understand on a level that’s beyond the ability to recite terminology and rote definitions. He wants to see the world and people through your eyes, partially so he knows how to relate to you.

And, oh boy, is he struggling to relate to you…. Attraction has always been physical for him, so much so that it’s often had him jumping head-first into Cupid’s arrows without much attention. He’s realized that much of his love language and much of your’s may clash, and without a doubt, he’s come off too strong.

I’m not sure when the apologizing will stop, nor am I certain when he’ll stop walking on eggshells. Julian has befriended the sting of a broken heart, and that’s the last experience he wants to have with you. He needs clear instructions, otherwise, he’s positive he’ll find a way to mess this up.

“You’d be surprised what I can manage, darling - or mismanage in this instance. Truly, I deserve an award.”

Nadia

Nadia wants everyone under her ruling to be heard, so she’s versed herself in all of the various representations throughout Vesuvia. She understands asexuality, but she doesn’t assume that she knows how to be in a healthy relationship that involves it. Like Julian, she realizes that head knowledge can only get you so far. Not every life story can be told in the pages of a book, and understanding your' life story's is vital in this relationship.

If it feels like a conference meeting, that’s because it is one. Be patient with her… She’s trying to treat this with the utmost care, and everything important in her world deserves a meeting. Throughout the meeting, she maintains a small smile, but truthfully, the knot in her stomach grows tighter by the minute. Nadia is a sensual person, and her flirting is just as over the top as everything else in her life. Whatever she thought was wooing you was certainly not, and even worse, it could have been pushing a boundary.

Ah - another meeting. Nadia doesn’t like operating in the dark. If she’s learned anything, it’s that relationships need communication. At the end of the day, she sees this as two different communication styles - you express love one way, she expresses hers another way. While Nadia gives enough gifts to build a tower to the moon, she also values small, simple acts of service - bedtime massages, hand kisses, tea time cuddles. She’s grateful for whatever physicality is possible in the relationship, but she’s firm that it cannot come at the cost of your personhood.

Muriel

This is less new information to Muriel than it is to Julian. Asra often comes to the hut to yap, and I’m sure conversations on gender and sexuality have happened. Honestly, Muriel finds beauty in asexuality. There’s nothing innately wrong or lesser if you experience sexual attraction, but he thinks it’s just as special to live outside of it.

You’re still a human who experiences love like any other being. Love is often misdefined by the physicality that comes with it, but really, intimacy is just one aspect to love. He wonders what love is like for you… what memories make you blush after a date… what makes you smile when plucking petals off a rose….

When it comes to romance, Portia has heard of many things, but hasn’t experienced all of them. There's a lot of second hand information, but not a lot of personal experience. She cares so deeply for you, and she respects you to a painful degree. She’s also aware that her type of loving is all-consuming, and the last thing that she wants to do is hurt you. All those years of telling Julian off for overthinking have bit her in the butt. The tables have turned, and her head is spinning.

All those sneaky kisses and cheeky hand-holds are flashing through her brain like a recurring nightmare. She wants to ask, but she’s worried about oversharing. She wants to connect, but fears overstepping. This is her first big relationship, and she’s just as insecure about messing it up as she is about fixing it.

Portia really just needs to know that she’s in a safe place to try. Truthfully, there is very little that she can’t figure out. She’s fine with taking care of herself, and she’s happy to meet in the middle when/if you’re ready.

Lucio

Lucio has strong boomer energy. He’s lost, but doing his best.

Lucio grew up in an exclusive climate, and when he moved away from it, all he included was himself. He doesn’t understand how someone wouldn’t want physicality.

“Why settle for less?”

Yes, give him an ear tug, but don’t be discouraged, he’s here to listen because you’ve given him much more solid advice than anyone in his life.

Lucio is carnal - there’s no light way to put it. It’s going to be hard for him to deal with such a strong difference, but I don’t think it’s impossible. Yes, he’ll whine and bellyache, but at the end of the day, he’s mostly joking. He can’t be too serious, because if he was, then he’d have to reveal how touched he is that you love him for more than his sex appeal. Perhaps… you even cherish his heart. 👀

The truth is that not only have they witnessed and got in the crossfire of one too many bar fights with family members in their childhood to ever enjoy alcohol at all, but their attitude towards it is to hide the fact that they feel panicked. (Also, alcohol tastes absolutely disgusting to them).

The Arcana Headcanons 「Alcohol Abstinent MC」

Asra

Asra enjoys a drink here and there, but they can give it up. However, while it’s no problem to give up drinking, they won’t as easily give up guessing the real reason for your abstinence. Asra knows you better than the cards. Your lips promise sobriety and temperance, but your face displays a million different emotions.

The way your nose scrunches at the smell of liquor on someone’s breath… the phantom sick on your tongue when you witness the crowd raise a toast… the speed that you leave a room once the heady air spills onto the dance floor…

“I am the all-seeing eye,” Asra gestures grandly. “Nothing escapes the great magician.”

He hopes his humor will alleviate the tension, because he knows your truth lurks in the shadows for a reason. If you decide to share it with him, then he’s honored but heart-broken. He completely understands where you’re coming from. Yes, alcohol isn’t an inherent evil, but he’s not going to try to change your mind on it. To him, you can live without liquor.

“But you can’t live without tea.”

Yes, that is his real vice. As long as they have tea, then all is well with the world.

Julian

Julian got sober for you, and that’s a pretty big testament to his love because it would be no easy feat.

Alcohol is complicated for Julian. It served as both a crutch and connection in his lifetime. At times, he wandered home washed-up in more ways than one, where the only thing to offer a kiss of return was a bottle against his lips. However, the Raven has also been a place where he’s met the most of his family - blood or not - who’s kept him from certain death. He knows drinking is a problem, but he also knows that the real problem is actually himself.

If it were up to him, he would learn to drink wisely, refusing to allow his demons to craft weapons out of anything in his life. However, it’s not up to him - at least not entirely. Yes, Julian values independence in relationships, but he also values partnership. Whether or not you disclose the real reason for your abstinence, Julian knows panic when he sees it. He wants to support you wholeheartedly.

“There was never a choice in the matter, darling,” he says. “I appreciate that you gave me one, but I don’t want you to pit yourself against a bottle. You are always more important.”

Nadia

As always, Nadia is proud of your convictions and never forces your hand otherwise, even if she doesn’t share the same sentiments - at least not initially. Once she learns the truth (which doesn’t take long… milady has the eyes of a hawk), her neatly drawn lines tangle into a nasty knot.

Technically, she could outlaw alcohol not only in the palace, but throughout Vesuvia. It would do both you and her a favor, as the probability of the law chasing out Valerius would be high…

“I love everyone in Vesuvia, but there are those that I prefer to love at a distance.”

However, such an abuse of power - as tempting as it is - doesn’t promise much of a future for her land or her love. There are some things that are out of her control.

“Yes, but I’m in control,” you remind her. “I’m in control of how I respond to my choices and others’. You don’t have to control it for me.”

This is a season of some strong growth for Nadia as well. Once again, she’s learning to solve the problem together rather than alone. Nonetheless, she still makes changes that are within her realm of control. The kitchen has made plenty of swaps, which unlocked an alarming love for juice in milady - orange and cranberry with an insane amount of sugar.

Muriel

“Ah, yes, the same story I told myself about why I avoided people.”

I think a healed Muriel is a rather dangerous Muriel because he can now sniff out bullshit from a mile away. Muriel doesn’t really drink, so this is a non-issue; but Muriel also doesn’t really buy your story, so he’s not keen on letting it stay a non-issue.

He knows the games the human mind and heart play against himself. Alcohol isn’t the sin, but people can sin using alcohol.

That doesn’t mean he encourages you to return to drink. He doesn’t care how you’re choosing to heal. His focus is ensuring that you’re actually healing in this process. Your choice is certainly valid, but abstinence can become avoidance if you don’t remain aware. He’ll check-in. In his own strange, Muriel way, he’ll make sure that you’re okay. Even though, most of the time that consists of a grunt and a shy “how’ve you been..."

Portia

“Whatever floats your boat!” She shrugs.

Portia is pretty hands-off about this sort of thing. You have your lines, she has hers. As long as you both can get along without getting cross, then it’s a success in her books. What she’s 1000% not hands-off about is your family trauma.

She kinda understands. She herself has had to haul Ilya out of the Raven with a righteous ear tug more times than she’d like to admit. Yet, while liquor has been an annoying third-wheel in their relationship, she can’t say she’s ever felt threatened by it or by her brother. Plus, at the end of the day, Julian picked her. While certainly not sober, he no longer chases the bellyache and woes with bitters, but instead seeks shelter at her table in the cottage. She can’t imagine not having a family that doesn’t choose you.

“I choose you,” she declares with a stomp of her foot. “Until you’re ready, I’ll be sober with you.”

And that’s pretty hard for Portia. Her favorite drink is beer. Like Nadia, she’s had to find a substitute, and the addiction landed on lattes.

Lucio

He hates that everyone in this ask made such quick selfless decisions because it’s confirmed to him that he’s the solitary ass in the group.

Lucio’s alcohol tolerance is high. I think many assumed he was drunk, but that was actually his natural dummy state of mind. He likes liquor - the finery of it, the art of it, the craft of it. He understands why you have a problem with it, but he doesn’t understand why he should have a problem with it, too.

“So, I just won’t kiss you after I have a sip of the good stuff. No harm, no foul.”

Even if you agree to it, there’s something about it that makes the logic feel illogical. The compromise feels selfish, and his boundaries feel negligent. This isn’t a question of preferences, but a matter of healing. That is something that he does understand. Instead of viewing it like something is being taken away from him, he tries to see it as a way for him to give you space to heal.

He tries to give it up… He does slip up… And when he does, he punishes himself by sleeping in the dog house for the night so you don’t have to smell it.

Yay! So is he! Physical affection was something lacking in childhood, and he never realized how much he missed it until it returned. It’s certainly become a part of his love language.

Somehow, Asra always manages to find their way beside you - bumping hips behind the counter… playing footsie beneath the dinner table… looping pinkies while walking… It’s not possessive, rather you’re like a tether to reality. Asra often has their head in the clouds, and that can either be good or bad. Most often, there are daydreams, but you can’t discount the nightmares. Tangibly sensing you reminds their body of the present.

Just because you’re physically affectionate, Asra never expects you to be. He’s so, so grateful that you’re willing and wanting to do that with him because it shows how much you trust him as a partner.

Julian

Is someone finally able to cure the doctor of his chronic touch-starvationitis? Julian will never refuse a hug, or a kiss, or a nuzzle, or hand-hold, or a simple pat on the back. Yes, he will blush every time, and he will cozy into it like a cat in the sun.

For Julian, physicality is never half-hearted. Even a short embrace holds a lifetime of love. It hurt when he realized that it’s not the same for everyone. While Julian gave without reserve, many lovers took without reserve. Plus, how often have people told him he was too much? Julian often felt like it was wrong for him to desire such physicality, labeling himself as a desperate nuisance to his lovers. As a result, he’s spent many years apologizing and correcting himself. To have you not only accept but also reciprocate his affection - it’s healing a very core part of him.

Please, lavish him with it - not only for his sake, but for the sake of all who care about him. It’s nice to see their Ilya with a bit more life in his bones.

Nadia

In a day, Nadia has her personal bubble invaded more times than she can count. From greeting diplomats to comforting her people, she throws out affection like confetti. It’s ironic that when it comes to more personal moments that Nadia loses her nerve.

Yes, she can be sensual, but the tiny hand squeezes when passing each other in the hall… the kisses to her forehead while she dozes off a migraine… the koala hugs you greet her with after returning from travels… those make her brain short circuit.

Life is often too busy to indulge in such simple pleasantries, but it’s also too short to pass them by. She’s grateful that you’ve gifted her something that no amount of her royalties ever could.

Muriel

We all know Muriel's struggle with touch. His trauma tells him that he’s a killer… that his body was designed for harm… that all good things come to an end and oftentimes, that end is by his own hand. He will pull away from you because allowing himself to be loved goes against nature itself - at least the nature that was scripted for him in the Colosseum.

Go slow… he needs the challenge, as well as the space to process. Once he figures it out, he will lean into it because at the end of the day - Muriel wants that script to be rewritten.

Muriel is a very sense-driven person. With the way he interacts with his surroundings, the experience of having you close would be a full-body one. The smell of your hair… the ebb and flow of your body… the rhythm of your breath… all of his senses are activated, and it’s damn euphoric. He hates that people tried to steal such an experience from him, but he’s proud that they didn’t win.

Portia

Smother her. If she dies from lack of oxygen in kisses, then it would be a life well-lived.

It must be something in the blood because Portia also loves with her entire mind, body, and soul. However, unlike her brother, she’s not as touch-starved or rather… she’s not as touch-desperate.

Portia’s emotional intelligence and “don’t mess with me” resilience has allowed her to protect her heart despite her desire to love and be loved. It’s a dream-come-true to finally find her better half, since she’s been waiting for this moment for what seems like a millennia.

Even better, she’s had a millennia to daydream about this moment and imagine a million ways to reciprocate your affections. She doesn’t mind you hanging onto her hip as she bakes, and she’s itching to lay you on her lap with a good book. I think all of Vesuvia would agree that you are the cutest couple in town, and if there’s ever a day that you’re not holding hands in the market, then surely the Devil has returned and the world is upside down.

Lucio

It was all fun and games until he realized the genuineness behind your actions.

Lucio is the king at waxing his affections, but he can’t say that it was always genuine. At the end of the day, Lucio wanted to be loved, and all he did was to gain that love. He gave in order to receive. The thought of loving someone simply to love wasn’t a concept. If the person didn’t reciprocate, then what was the point?

But on the days that you snuggle in bed when he’s too tired to open his eyes… when you give him kisses after he says something snarky… the moment you hug him after an argument that was absolutely his fault…

He realizes that you have no other intention except his pleasure. It is a form of love that is so unadulterated that he refuses to reciprocate until he knows he’s not being half-assed about it.

The Arcana Headcanons 「MC who Grew Up like Asra/Muriel」

Asra

His heart is torn in two, but Asra refuses to show it.

He understands that people mean well, but one of his pet peeves is the sympathy that people show when they hear about his upbringing. Sure, it wasn’t a lifestyle by choice, but he made the best of it. He doesn’t appreciate people treating his experience like blemishes on his public record.

“I had a different life, but my life was no lesser than anyone else’s.”

Asra hopes you do the same. They want you to understand that nothing and no one defines you in life except yourself. You make you. Their emotional detachment isn’t a lack of sympathy, rather it’s to provide you a space to grow without the shadow of the docks. Nonetheless, when you need to talk about it, they’ll listen. The magician has really mastered the balance of healing from trauma without feeding into it.

Besides Asra, you also have two loving parents, as well as a gaggle of snakes to call family now. I don’t know if Salim and Aisha could ever fully stop feeling like they failed Asra. In some ways, helping you is a surrogate for helping the child they left behind.

Julian

Julian knows what it’s like to grow up without a house or a home. However, he was blessed enough to have a village of grandmothers rescue him from the mire. Yes, he wants to be that for you, because truly, he doesn’t know where he would be without them.

Nonetheless, Julian also knows that there is power in the blood (hence the leech obsession…). No matter how many good people have come into his life, no matter how many good things they’ve done for him… Julian always senses a tinge of loneliness.

“Everyone means the world to me, but that doesn’t mean I don’t miss my parents.”

With that said, he never expects to replace the family that you should have had, nor does he confuse your mourning as a lack of appreciation for him.

Meanwhile, Mazelinka has made it her personal mission to chase away the sadness with a sailor’s tongue, wooden spoon, and a pot of something good. Sure, she’s tough, but not tough enough to erase the image of that red-head boy holding his sister next to the wreckage every time she looks at you.

Nadia

Nadia takes personal responsibility for anyone in her care, but it’s more than an obligation to care for you. It’s a privilege.

I’m sure many have warned her about taking in “someone like you.” They questioned your intentions, swearing up and down that you’ll use her, but Nadia cannot forget the little face staring starry-eyed beneath the docks when her carriage passed through.

“It’s shameful that you admired me when I allowed you to live like that beneath my ruling.”

Within reason, anything you need or want is yours - that goes for her, as well as her family. You have a host of people at your disposal, and none of them question your place among them. They love you intuitively, and they trust that you love them just the same. You are their equal.

Muriel

Like Asra, Muriel doesn’t show much emotion towards your living situation. While the past hurts, you can still heal. He doesn’t want to linger on the trauma so much that it becomes a crutch.

“You can’t move forward unless you turn away from it.”

But, trust me, he understands your pain, your hunger, your fatigue, and your loneliness. He wants you to succeed, but success doesn’t always justify the journey you’ve had to traverse.

He wants to alleviate some of the burden for you, so that you don’t get desperate and people don’t take advantage. He’s certainly honored to support you until you can support yourself. Even then, I don’t think Muriel could ever really let go of your company. You’d always be welcome in his home, and that’s a pretty rare feat.

Portia

Come here. Get under her arm. Time to tuck you in.

Empty bellies are outlawed in the Devorak cottage. Nighttime is meant for soft pillows and sweet dreams, while mornings hold no better promise than fresh pastries.

If Portia could open her home to the whole port of Vesuvia, she would.

“But one will have to do, and you’re a very special one!”

She fully believes that this is only a minor setback in your lifelong journey, and she makes sure that you know it. Portia knows she doesn’t have much, but she’s really willing to give all she has. She’ll get you a job at the palace if you want, or she’ll help fund whatever future you desire to chase. In a way, she sees herself in you. She remembers first arriving in Vesuvia with nothing to her name, desperate to piece her past together and build a future.

Lucio

Ah, feeling the heat now, aren’t we, Lucio?

The guilt trip is strong. Looking at you is like looking into the flames of hell. He knows that Vesuvia would be in a much better state if he didn’t act like a fool during his reign. That little worm in his brain floods him with “what if’s”. Would your life have been different if it wasn’t for him?

“Well, it could certainly be different if you did something now.”

He doesn’t remember which one of his reluctant companions offered the snippy quip, but they weren’t wrong. Late is better than never.

Lucio does his best. He’s fantastic at providing material goods, but the emotional support takes a while to come through. The guilt trip doesn’t help. He doesn’t want to seem like he’s trying to win your favor, but he knows deep down that he is.

“Perhaps if I do right by them, I’ll be forgiven after all…”

Asra is so, so proud of all you’ve conquered and become, and your familiar is a symbol of that journey. Anytime they catch sight of it in the sky, they can’t help but blow a kiss.

Ironically, Asra leans towards water magic, so I wonder if there’s a bit of a clash there? He would find it terribly endearing to be paired so perfectly with an opposite.

Julian

With all the lore he’s accumulated in his travels, I think that Julian has acquired a deep fascination for any mythological being. A phoenix would definitely be at the top of his list - do we remember his masquerade outfit?

He thinks that it’s a high honor to have such a creature call you their own. Surely, it’s a testament to who you are as a person, and he finds the image of Malak and the phoenix perching beside each other a hilarious representation of who you are as a couple.

Nadia

Mildly concerned about another magical fire breaking out at the palace…

Nadia is all about aesthetics, and your familiar is certainly abundant in them. However, our lady is not tone deaf, and she senses that the beauty goes far deeper than the plumage.

It is more than a pretty thing to ogle, and it’s not a party trick for her next masquerade. There’s a particular regality about your familiar - a distinct, ancient honor. She beholds the creature with utmost respect and privacy. The people are bound to make this a spectacle, and she’s running a country not a circus.

Muriel

Only you can prevent forest fires, Muriel.

He’s also considered the possibility of a fire breaking out. Muriel’s generally cautious, but not because of the fire. Familiars are sentient beings, and Muriel doesn’t want to get off on the wrong foot with yours.

The power over life and death is not something to take lightly. A phoenix is offered it inherently, and Muriel sees that as an indicator of great virtue.

“Not everyone is trusted with that kind of thing.”

And that complement extends to you, as you are the master of this being.

Portia

Very, very enamoured. Portia and the phoenix are truly kindred spirits. However, there is a particular grace to the phoenix that Portia never expected to associate with fire.

It’s certainly given her food for thought. I think Portia often struggles to identify with her softer attributes, as if she could only be labeled a toughie with her disposition.

The phoenix is elegant and harmonious while embodying its power, which helps her believe that she can be just as much a softie as she is a scallywag.

Lucio

Lucio was all for it until he got first-hand experience with the fire magic. Trauma has entered the building.

However, Lucio’s kink is power dynamics, and there’s something about the way you’ve harnessed that power that whips him to the floor. It’s hot - literally and metaphorically.

Sure, he’s wary about going near the bird, but he has no complaint about cozying up to you after witnessing your magic.

The Arcana Headcanons 「M6 Celebrating their Own Birthdays」

Asra

Although Asra never really needs an excuse, this is kind of the perfect excuse for a lazy day. Anything that has to do with propriety and productivity is on hold. Time to be fantastically at the whims of whimsy.

Lounging. Napping. Daydreaming. They’re not getting up until noon, and don’t expect any real food until dinner. That’s when he goes to see his parents. Aisha still has his favorites memorized, and any new recipe has been added to the books. Even the familiars have a little cake for dessert. Asra never expects gifts, but Salim manages to find some strange, forsaken magical instrument that looks promising at blowing up the shop.

Afterwards, it’s time for board games, as well as a bit of tea and gossip. They want as many of their loved ones there as possible - maybe at the shop, maybe at the palace. Asra has spent so many birthdays alone, so truly this is the greatest gift. They don't want to be the center of attention, rather they want to bask in the aimless chatter of familiar company. If anything, they’ll probably doze off on the pillows for nap #4.

And please please please join him, as no day of whimsy is complete without a full set of cuddles. You’ve given him a home to return to and a heart to behold. Asra knows he wouldn’t be celebrating anything without you.

Julian

It does feel strange to take a day for himself, and unless you force him to sit down, he’ll probably end up doing some form of work. However, I think at the end of the day, Julian would sincerely ask to spend his birthday helping the community that helped him get to his next birthday, so there would have to be a bit of compromise. A day of work, and a night of play.

Send him off with a full belly of pancakes and a kiss on the cheek - those are his favorites. Throughout the day, I imagine the South Enders bringing him gifts - grandmas with jars of jelly and children with bouquets of wildflowers. It certainly brings him home with his eyes a little redder and his voice a little softer. Now, it’s time for Mazelinka and Portia to get a hold of him. Dinner - Nevivon style. Everyone is invited. Julian does enjoy everyone’s conversation and companionship, but it’s the return of his sister’s company that sparks the most joy in his heart.

Once home, Julian unwinds with a contented sigh and a long bath beneath the moonlight. He holds you beside the fire, nestling in your warmth and whatever affections you grace him. I think he’s spent so many years living in a whirlwind that he often forgets about his birthday, but now he has people in his life to remember for him, and that’s a notion that’s had tears in his eyes since daybreak.

Nadia

I don’t feel like Nadia spends her birthdays the way she wants to. It’s a public affair, as always. Party here, party there…. And an after party of writing ‘thank you’ notes until sunrise.

But what does she want to do? What does… she… want to do?

First, sleep. I don’t know how much her body will let her sleep, but a morning canoodle with her lover would be fabulous. Then, it’s breakfast with her family - particularly her siblings. Yes, she loves her parents, but nothing beats an unhinged morning gossip session over tea. Asra is probably also invited to this because we all know who’s pouring the hottest brew…

Nadia has never had a whole day to herself, and she supposes it would be nice to experience the country she governs for herself. Wrap her up in shawls and take her to the depths of the city. She wants to see everything her people see, taste everything they taste, as well as shop. ✨

Dinner is reserved for friends, for truly they are also her family. Meanwhile, desserts are reserved for her beloved. Ice cream by the docks, feet in the water, hair in the wind, and the comfort of familiar silence.

Muriel

My poor hut sweetheart! Do you not remember your birthday??

“I remember. I just don’t want to remember.”

I think Asra tried his best to always do something for it, but we know how resistant Muriel is to attention… I think most celebrations ended up being a dinner, where Asra brought Muriel’s favorite fish from a restaurant in town.

“I also wanted to try sneaking party hats on the chickens,” Asra admits to you, “but that might have been pushing my luck.”

I also get the sense that the colosseum had some not so nice birthday celebrations for their star fighter… No one can blame Muriel for his distaste over the day, but I also think that no one can stand to see it remain such a dismal day either.

“Love, it’s safe to remember now. Is there nothing we can do for your birthday?”

He can never say ‘no’ when you give him that look, and he can’t say that he doesn’t have any ideas for a birthday celebration. If you’re going to ask him to celebrate something with painful memories, then he needs to get away from the memories. Muriel does enjoy nature - all of nature - which includes the beach. However, he has no intent on cutting through town to enjoy it, nor does he wish to return to the docks.

“It’s been a long time since I swam to the ocean.”

I don’t know who’s having more fun - Muriel or Inanna… While excitement vibrates through every bone of the creature’s body, her master stands motionless in the tide, shirtless, allowing the waves to crash over him. Nadia always gives her the day off, and she never knows what to do with herself.

Past birthdays have always been spent alone. She’d bake or garden or explore the city and bring back food to share with Pepi… It wasn’t an unpleasant loneliness, but nonetheless she was alone.

Now, she has friends, family, her brother… She even has a lover. While Portia finds that none of her plans for the day has changed, the company has certainly made them better. Baking with Mazelinka and Julian, exploring the city with Nadia… even Muriel and Asra chipped in with the gardening.

Portia is content. In fact, she’s beaming. Here, sitting beneath the windowsill… the moonlight streaming in… her beloved’s fingers playing with her hair... Portia can’t recall how many candles she’s sacrificed through the years to get this wish.

Lucio

Right now, he's pouty. I think it’s because he feels a tad silly at how extravagant he’s made his past birthdays. Now, he realizes how much it screamed ✨insecurity ✨ because truthfully, he felt like he needed to make up for all that he missed in his youth.

“Birthdays weren’t always great,” he mumbles.

“Well, then how can we make this one great?”

He thinks for a moment. “Let’s go camping.”

Lucio didn’t always love luxury. Traveling was fun, and overall, Lucio enjoyed his sports. Honestly, the time away from the party, the people, the booze… he’s happy. He’s existing purely for the hell of it, for the love for it. He’s got his hands dirty, his hair tousled, and he’s refusing to put on a shirt despite the fact that it’s the middle of January.

“I got company to keep me warm,” he says, hauling both you and the dogs beside his bed roll. “Look, a shooting star!” He points to the sky. “That’s the candle I make my wish on this year.”

@hermite-reversed here. i have a non-apprentice oc named Cassander (he/him) -- he's Valerius's son. Young, relatively rich, has a lot of influence in high society. Pretty hedonistic and uncaring of the problems of "lower" society, similar in a lot of ways to Valerius, but it's not because he thinks they "deserve" it or anything, he just doesn't really care about anyone outside of his own diversions.

After the Count's death, Valerius was busy trying to keep the city afloat and he was largely left to his own devices so he decided to study "spirit summoning" -- a type of magic that involves communing with the dead for insight and advice. He also has experience working with restless ghosts who haven't moved on, that type of thing. It's basically his hobby that he does to mix things up/spite his father/occupy his time with something entertaining (he's always bored). Cassander has an arrogant and high-class tone of voice, and won't pay attention to you unless you have something he wants, in which case he will absolutely turn on the charm.

The spirit summoning is not well known, and even if you find out about it he's not just gonna do if for anyone who asks. There has to be something in it for him (this goes for just about anything, actually. He lives in a world where social currency like favors are everything)

The Arcana Headcanons 「OC Cassander」

Asra

Asra is generally put off by those who are hedonistic. It’s a strong reminder of the person that nearly took his parents, friends, lover, and life away. However, Asra is also fairly perceptive of people, and they know that Valerius is no walk in the park. Surely, that would have an effect on Cass, and Asra has the decency to take the time to learn what that effect is before making a judgement.

At the end of the day, I see Asra deeming Cass as complicated. They realize that a lot of his nature is due to nurture, and they wonder what he would be like in an environment that wasn't so tainted. They admire Cass’s journey with gender identity and representation, as that type of battle is no easy feat. It greatly reflects Cass’s inner strength.

The spirit summoning is certainly fascinating, and that would be a strong bonding point for the two of them. Asra wholeheartedly supports and aids Cass in his work, but not simply for magic’s sake. Despite their passive nature, Asra finds it mildly amusing that his magic antagonizes Valerius. Asra is Nadia’s ride or die, and they don’t appreciate the headache Valerius has caused for her. Plus, Asra is always ready to fact-check someone who dismisses a magician.

Julian

Hedonism is Julian’s antonym. I’m sure that the doctor would offer his medical services for free if he could. In fact, I think that there have been many times where Julian has pinched a penny from his own pocket to treat the needy. However, that’s not to say that he and Cass can’t get along.

Julian is astonishingly patient, and his inquisitive nature allows him to view differences as an opportunity to learn. He knows the South End has been wronged by officials like Valerius, and he knows that kind of societal rot doesn’t distinguish between friend or foe. He’s sure Cass has a story to tell about what he’s seen in that world.

Julian also knows a rogue when he sees one. There is a rebellious spirit in Cass that’s promising of an adventure. While Julian has little intent on taking part in Cass’s world, he has full intent in dragging Cass into his.

“The heart of Vesuvia is in the South, did no one tell you that?”

The one drawback is the magic. Necromancy blatantly scares Julian…

Nadia

Nadia may not be as close to Cass as the others, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t friendly. The distance is partially due to her professionalism towards Valerius. The two don’t have the best history, and she doesn’t want to open up an unnecessary can of worms. Nonetheless, she knows what it’s like to live in the public eye, and it feels callous to leave Cass alone in that endeavor.

Another reason for the distance is Nadia’s caution towards being used. She’s certainly learned how to deal with Valerius, and the apple doesn’t seem to fall far from the tree. She’s able to manage Cass’s attitude without offense, albeit she wants to establish something real. A part of that would be standing up for him when he’s not in the room. If someone wants to come for his identity or profession, they’ll have to get through her first.

She’s wary of his magic, but she’s not totally opposed to it. It’s simply out of her realm of expertise. She supposes that the magic could aid in healing the death that’s permeated the land, and she would perhaps offer Cass an official role in the palace to remedy that. There must be spirits afoot in the realms, and she thinks they should have a fair chance at life just as much as the living.

Muriel

Not his cup of tea, and he’s certain that he’s not Cass’s cup of tea either. Muriel treats Cass like he treats the rest of society - you stay there; I stay here.

Logically, he knows that it’s wrong to hold Cass to sins that he didn’t commit, but Muriel was used and abused by high society, and that’s just a really hard memory to shake. Plus, I feel like the Kokhuri were very mindful of the dead. While helping spirits to move on sounds nice, Muriel knows that a lot of necromancy has hidden agendas. Given the crowd Cass frequents, it would be hard to convince Muriel that his intentions are pure.

It's a constant moral tug-of-war within Muriel. As a result, I think a relationship would be neutral, but nonetheless hard to establish. However, Muriel is like that with most people, so - what’s new? 😅

Portia

Ah - she wants to fix him.

Admittedly, Valerius & Co. drive her up the wall, but Portia is able to compartmentalize her sentiments without directing them towards his offspring. With a heart made of gold, she saw through Cass’s exterior without much effort, and she knows that deep down he has a strong potential to be more than his father made him out to be.

Good people and good food never did anyone wrong, and perhaps a bit of change will help Cass see the world in different colors. She treats him like family in hopes that the warmth will defrost the facade. Depending on Cass’s reception towards all this, there could be a bit of butting of heads. Portia is persistent, and her love is full. It could seem suffocating to someone who isn’t used to it, or it could seem like she’s trying to use him for favors.

If he can handle her, then I can see the two being strangely compatible. She has many questions about his magic… sooo many questions… lots and lots of questions. If Cassander is bored, Portia will certainly find something to fill the time.

Lucio

Depending on what lore you follow… this could get awkward if you headcanon the “Lucio/Valerius Affair”. It’s no judgement if you do btw! I just think that it would alter the dynamic, as Lucio may keep more of a distance. That situation was ✨ messy ✨. However, Lucio is ‘messy’ incarnate, so I don’t know how far or how long he’d distance himself. I think Lucio is naturally drawn towards Cass.

Lucio knows how to play society, and he admires the game that Cass plays himself. He’s tempted to see Cass as a bit of a protege. However, it’s hard to shake off the toll this lifestyle dealt him, so at the end of the day, Lucio would prefer to stay on the straight and narrow. This could also become a problem if they both end up trying to play each other, but again… Lucio is a mess. I could see him finding an allure in those types of shenanigans.

Lucio certainly relates to the rebellious, free-spirit within Cass, and he would want to see that blossom in ways that he didn’t within himself. I see the two being close, but as for the magic - no thanks. Lucio’s had enough of the afterlife for one lifetime.

The Arcana Headcanons 「MC w/ Small Chest」

Asra

I’ve mentioned before that Asra’s definition of a body is loose, and the concepts of masculinity and femininity are exactly that - concepts. The idea that two mounds of flesh dictate your personhood is flat out gross to Asra. Truthfully, they didn’t even notice that your chest is small.

Asra wishes that they could poof away your insecurities, but unfortunately, magic has its limits. However, he never underestimates the power of the tongue. Flattery is Asra’s first form of magic, and they mean every word of it - that’s why it’s so powerful. He wishes to reverse every ill word or thought against you with his own.

“You are beautiful,” he says, his arms snaking around your waist, “you are not deformed, and you are most certainly worthy.

“And you’re a thief,” he tacks on with a kiss, “because you keep taking my breath away.”

Julian

The strongest eye roll. As a doctor, the notion that a small chest isn’t normal is laughably erroneous. As a gentleman, the fact that people feel the right or need to comment on it's size is disgusting.

You’d be surprised how many patients come to Julian for their insecurities rather than their ailments. He’s sympathetic towards their sentiment, but he’s not indulgent towards them either.

“Don’t give these people a single piece of you,” he says, cradling you in his lap. “Not even your peace of mind.”

As he runs his hands down your sides, he admires you with a contented smile. Julian could spend the day waxing his love for you, but truly, the highest form of flattery from him is the way he looks at you.

In a world full of endless combinations, the universe gifted him you, and you can tell from that drowsy, rose-tinted grin that he’s the happiest man in the world because of it. You are perfect in his eyes.

Nadia

Nadia has been beheld by many gazes in her lifetime. It’s the nature of royalty. However, it was no easy feat to blossom into adulthood in the public eye. She realized that some gazes linger longer in particular places. She’s not blind to your struggle and would be candid with you about her own experience.

In her younger years, I imagine she strayed away from certain outfits to avoid the attention. I think this is something her parents would have noticed quickly, especially her father. As a designer, he would have seen the ugly truth that "sex sells" within the trade. However, in no way is Namar going to buy that. He would want his children to exist for no one’s gaze but their own.

“Your body is a plaything for the spirit," he said. "It’s meant for your enjoyment and no one else’s.”

Nadia would encourage you to do the same.

Plus, I think Nadia would be somewhat jealous of you at times. She’s quite fond of adventuring, but a heavy chest doesn’t always lend well towards the situation.

“The grass is always greener on the other side, darling, but you have no idea how much my back hurts after a horse ride."

Muriel

Muriel noticed. He noticed you had a small chest.

It wasn’t for any particular reason. It was just a fact. However, he also noticed that it bothered you, which is why he didn’t say anything.

Muriel doesn’t quite know how to handle this. The prolonged silence seems to entice your anxiety, but complimenting it seems rude. He thinks body image and standards are based on fiction rather than fact, and he doesn’t want you to feel unwanted because of something so gravely false. It’s an all too familiar feeling... For once, he will find something to say.

You are Muriel’s first in every sense of the sentiment. He has no one to compare you to, nor does he want or need one. He can’t imagine you any other way, and he’s perfectly content with that.

“I like it,” he admits quietly, “and I don’t like many things.”

Portia

Portia is right there with you. I don’t think she’s naturally insecure about her body, but I feel like Vesuvia conditions everyone to be a bit too observant about their appearance.

She pokes and prods at herself in the mirror, and she doesn’t know what she would do if she couldn’t make her own clothes. The times she’s spent bawling in a dressing room is too many to count.

The notion of you being disgusted by your own form brings tears to her eyes. Portia blatantly finds you attractive and has no shame in saying it. However, she understands that the last thing you may want to hear is another person’s observations on their ogling, even if it’s from a lover.

Instead, she’ll try to get you to see what she sees. She doesn’t appreciate the mold society is trying to shape you both in with their sizes, so now she’s determined to fight it. She tailors clothes for you to show you that any form can be flattered, especially yours.

“You’re not the problem, sweetie. You were never the problem.”

Lucio

Well, he can’t say that he’s never been fooled by ideals.

Lucio’s pomp and pride are side effects of insecurity. He’s been the biggest fool to it. That is why he is now so staunchly against it. He doesn’t want you to fall victim to the same lie, so he will butter you up like his life depends on it.

“Dove, your chest’s got the same effect as everyone else’s.” He winks. “I can promise you that.”

While Lucio’s compliments can be… crass… they are not without care. Truly, he thinks the world of you. In anything you wear (or don’t wear), his eyes are on you. You are beautiful inside and out. The body that the world criticizes is the same body that held him through thick and thin and allowed him to hold it in return.

“Love is about more than looks you know? Boobs are everywhere, but where are you gonna find a good heart?”

Asra

The bellow nearly shook Asra out of their shoes.

Honestly, he thought you were yelling at a customer, because truthfully, some of them deserve it.

Who’s the lucky winner - Asra needs to know. They’re nosey, as well as concerned. Peeking his head out of the reading room, the shop is empty, spare you and the fuzzy little familiar wriggling in your embrace. Asra blinks.

“Who’s the bastard?” he asks. At the sound of Asra’s call, the creature breaks from your hold and scurries to his side. Asra blinks again.

As the pieces fall into place - truly - this is the best day of his life. A magician with a rogue ferret named ‘Bastard’ - it’s the most inane and insane creation the universe could have birthed. There is no one more perfect for him.

Julian

He was wondering about the sudden uptick in Malak’s swearing.

“Seems like you were just calling for a friend.”

He was also wondering why you had a propensity for the word ‘bastard’. Surely, everyone’s foul mouth has a preference, but the word didn’t always fall from your lips like a curse. Sometimes it seemed soft, almost beloved.

“Why did you give them such a name?”

“That’s all the little guy responds to,” you explain. Julian raises a brow as he watches Bastard scuttle across the floor with one of his socks.

“Suits them.”

Nadia

“We can’t have you yelling such things across the palace, love. That is how rumors start.”

She's trying not to laugh, because really, she's not above the crude irony. Nonetheless, she’s fighting to rebuild a public image post-Lucio, which is no easy feat. She’s locked herself and Portia in a room for the day to try to find any other name that Bastard will respond to.

“Maybe it just happens to sound like their real name,” Portia suggests.

“What word sounds like Bastard?”

“Umm… mustard?”

Needless to say, it’s unsuccessful. However, contrary to her worries, the people turn out to love Bastard and the story that comes with them. Is this the greatest publicity stunt Nadia has ever pulled off? Quite possibly…

Muriel

Of course.

Of course, you would have a ferret familiar named Bastard.

Muriel’s life has turned drastically upside down from anything he’s ever expected. Certainly, most of the change was for the better, but he can’t deny that life is weird.

“This…” he mumbles as your ferret tries to pick a fight with his toe. “Yeah, this tops it.”

I mean, it is what it is in Muriel’s world. Despite the change, he wouldn’t have life, or you, or Bastard any other way. Truly, the absurdity brings a rare smile to his face.

Portia

Well, if you’re going to offer her a cake then why not add sprinkles? This is a golden opportunity, and Portia isn’t wasting it. Depending on her mood, she’s tacking on a bit of pizzazz.

Little Bastard for when they're cute. Precious Bastard for when they cuddle her at night. Stinky Bastard for when they snub her kisses. And Nasty Bastard for when they get into her garden.

The list is endless and ever-growing. Honestly, I feel like Bastard is a familiar made for Portia. One could say that Pepi is a bit jealous because of this and has a name for Bastard of her own…

Lucio

At first, he got mad because he thought you were calling him a bastard. It wouldn’t be the first time someone did that. After your explanation, he settled surprisingly well.

“Oh, I give people names like that all the time.”

“No, Lucio, not like that…”

He thinks it’s funny, but Bastard is truly too tame for the creature. I sense that the relationship between Lucio and Bastard is a bit like a cat and mouse. Lucio is always chasing Bastard, and Bastard is always stealing his cheese (literally).

As a result, with each new insult delivered by the furry felon, Lucio offers a new nickname. While each is terribly colorful, they are all full of love because at the end of the day, Lucio can be a bit of a menace himself.

The Arcana Headcanons 「M6 and MC Reconciling after Break-up/Divorce」

Asra

Asra avoided Vesuvia for a long while, and despite his usual carefree confidence, he was terrified to return. He wasn’t afraid to find you, rather he was afraid how he would find you.

They could never quite shake the lapping waters of the Lazaret…

The figures and faces around him begin to haze. All Asra can see is you. It was a relief to see you bobbing and weaving through the market, and it was a miracle to feel your arms wrap around them again like all those other shared mornings.

The exhale that leaves him is nearly painful in its release. Emotions rattle through him like a winter gale, shuddering every bone in his body. A fire ignites in their chest, hot enough to bring tears to their eyes. He holds onto you like an anchor through the blaze.

“Let’s go home, Asra,” you whisper, tucking a curl behind their ear.

That beautiful lavender gaze is blushed and glassy, Asra runs his fingers down your cheek, lashes fluttering when you lean into the touch.

“Yes, let’s go home, dear heart.”

Julian

Julian feels like he’s been living under water. He can’t quite make out the faces around him, and he can’t quite hear who’s called his name. Your presence in the doorway reels him back. It’s as if someone has thrown the hourglass at the wall. Sand scatters across the floor, and time gets lost within every nook and cranny of the wood.

Julian steps forward cautiously, afraid to disrupt the dream.

When his hands indeed find flesh and bone… when his fingers smooth over those familiar patterns and textures… when the warmth doesn’t flee from his cold embrace… he drops to his knees.

“I love you,” he whispers.

“I love you, too,” you answer, carding your fingers through his hair. He whines and buries his face into your waist.

When he finds your lips once more, it seems like the tides have finally receded.

Nadia

Everything is too loud. The footsteps down the empty halls echo like gunfire, and the scritch of her pen stings like a crack of lightning. It splits her head open and makes her hands shake, and the face in the doorway nearly tears the universe itself in half.

“Why are you here?” she startles. You smile small, shifting your gaze towards the open window.

“I think the better question is - why did I ever leave?”

A wave of vertigo passes over her that makes her sway in her seat. She shuts her eyes, and once it passes, she finds that you’ve moved to a place beside her.

“Heavens, I missed you,” she says, rising.

Both timid, your hands slowly inch across space to draw one another closer. When your bodies meet, Nadia sighs into you, pressing her forehead against yours. A gentle hum fills her ears and silences the rest of the world.

Muriel

“What do you want?” he asks.

If it sounds cold, it’s because truly, he has turned to stone. A deeply etched frown… a wickedly stepped posture… and not a sign of life in his eyes. Yet, there is something that still moves.

Slowly, cautiously, you approach and sit beside him. Muriel gazes down at you, and here, you find it. A shimmer of light that rustles his lashes like the wind through the leaves.

“I want you, Muri, if you’ll have me.”

Something strikes him that tenses his entire body. Muriel hangs his head until his hair covers his face.

“Just forget me.”

You hush him, cradling his cheeks in the palm of your hands. “I don’t want to forget you.”

His eyes pass dazedly over your features - your eyes, your nose, and finally landing on your lips. When you kiss, a gale passes through him that rattles the light in his eyes and spills it over.

Portia

Her breath is coming fast and strong and hot. The footsteps pound against her ears in equal rhythm with the blood.

Portia feels like she’s been chasing mirages and shadows through her garden for a millennia, and she’ll continue to chase for a millennia longer if it means she’ll find what she’s after.

You haunt her every dream, every nightmare. This is not the life she wanted, and she will fight heaven and earth itself in accepting it. Whether it is determination or delusion, she no longer knows, yet she cannot stop running.

Then, something meets her. The midair collision sends her flying, completely stealing the wind out of her. The back of Portia’s head meets the garden’s dirt, and for a moment, all she can see is the sun.

Until a very, very familiar outline blocks out the light.

“Are you okay?” It asks.

She blinks. “Is it really you?”

“Sweetheart…” the voice calls her.

A brief wail escapes her. “Why did you run?”

“I…” you hesitate. “I was afraid…”

Without thinking, Portia’s hands lunge up to bring you to her. You kiss her cheek and melt into the embrace. Flush against you, she doesn’t hide the tremors that begin to overtake her.

“You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for you to come home.”

Lucio

A part of Lucio died by his own hand the night you left. He cut it off like rot and thought that if he dug far enough, maybe he’d eradicate the rest of the infection that caused you to leave, as well as the part of him that still cared that you left.

Lucio is only half the man he was, and you know there is nothing on earth that could call him back. You know that a part of him doesn’t want to be back. And given his life, you can’t blame him.

“Lucio,” you start, “I promised you for better or for worse, and I didn’t keep that promise. I’m sorry.”

He looks at you with a glazed, dimmed stare. Not a bone in his body will budge, nonetheless his mind screams at him to move. The war is evident in his features, and eventually his feeble form collapses beneath the struggle. He hangs his head.

“I don’t deserve you staying.”

Lucio senses your presence draw closer and allows your hands to move for him. You nestle them against your hips and bring your own to rest behind his neck. When you place your ear against his chest, it seems his heart has not changed. It beats just as steady and strong.

“You didn’t deserve me leaving, Lucio.”

The Arcana Headcanons 「MC Wanting a Divorce」

Asra

You need to pause because his pretty head nearly hit the ceiling.

Asra has gone to hell and back to bring you to life, but he in no way holds that against you. They love you and will always love you, even if it means they have to let you go. At the end of the day, he’s not entitled to be your beloved. The sacrifice was his choice, and he’d never want to use that as a chokehold to keep you close.

They’ll give you space to process if a divorce is what you really want. The space also serves as a means to pull themself together, as ugly demons have reared their heads once more. A small part of them questions if this is what he truly deserves after all he put you through. He doesn’t want any possible self-resentment or wayward anger within himself to join forces and end something that could have been saved.

If you still decide you want a divorce, they’ll oblige. In the least, I think he’d want to remain friends. You’ve always been special to him, and that’s independent of your relationship. However, if you really want nothing to do with them, then I don’t think they can’t look at the Vesuvian skyline for a long while without an ache in their chest.

Julian

He’s holding it together better than you’d suspect, but that’s mostly due to the shock.

Julian really thought he had eternity with you, but once again, he’s finally pushed someone away to the point where they won’t come back. It certainly does a number on his psyche. He will ask for a second chance. He may beg if the situation raises enough panic within him. If you offer such an opportunity, he will not take it for granted. The experience has chilled him to the bone.

However, if you’re adamant, he will relent, but I don’t think Julian ever truly gives up. While there is no lingering affinity, there is a part of Julian’s heart that still breaks for all of his lovers. You, though, were different. His heart will not stop breaking for you, nor will it stop yearning.

Nadia

Nadia gives the argument a day to settle before reaching a verdict. If your desire persists, she is cordial about the affair. No, she isn’t pleased, but she won’t twist your arm to keep you there. The emotions have yet to reach the surface. Honestly, it isn’t until she is laying in bed alone that the tears start to sting.

Although Nadia did not love Lucio, it still hurts to see that love has failed her once more, especially after experiencing it with you. She never realized how cold the pillows could get at night, or how loud the flicker of a candle could be. She understands why the relationship may not have worked, but if Nadia is anything, she is tenacious. There has yet to be a problem that she couldn’t fix - not even the Devil himself could stop her.

“Why then has this failed?”

That question will haunt her for a long while.

Muriel

I don’t think he thought his life would come to this.

It’s not that he believed he was perfect enough to keep you forever, rather he always knew his imperfections would keep you away from the beginning. Muriel is aware of his flaws, and his awareness is not merely rooted in insecurity. He knows he’s ornery and particular to a suffocating degree. While he’s tried to change, he also knows his baseline for change is skewed due to his past.

If anything, this was a ticking time bomb. He would have been more surprised if you stayed. He will let you go. He will not look back, but he won’t deny that he wishes he could be the one who could not remember for once.

Portia

Very quiet. Scary quiet. Her fire snuffed out without warning.

With whatever breath is left, she will ask for you to stay, to talk, to try, to do anything but give up. It feels like the stars have fallen from her sky, and she is desperate to put them back in place.

For a season, the night is dark. However, the sun shall return. It always does. She knows she will bounce back - she always has. Portia is not a quitter, but right now, she cannot see beyond the shadow of you walking out of her garden.

She would welcome you back in any lifetime without hesitation.

Lucio

“Fine. Leave.”

He will stand resilient in the doorway with arms crossed and face stone-cold, because perhaps, if he hardens his heart, he will survive the blow.

Lucio doesn’t remember what was even said during the fight, but he knows it’s his fault. It’s always his fault. That doesn’t come from a place of self-deprecation. It’s simply a fact. He doesn’t feel like he has a right to keep you here, because he never deserved to have you in the first place.

The faces of all he has tortured and killed through his lifetime surface in his memory. Surely, your rejection is a fair punishment for his sins, because he can imagine no greater pain in the world than this.

HC request: how the M6 would react to an MC who is religious, like they go to one of the shrines in the temple district every week and they put a lot of faith in a higher being (they don't force it on anyone else though)

Hiii! Thanks for the ask! This is one I’ve thought a lot about. In fact, I even created my Firent OC to help process my own relationship with religion.

With that said, I just wanted to send some kindness to those who experienced religious trauma or struggle with their belief system. Your emotions are valid. I kept this generally lighthearted, but still - feel free to skip this if the topic is triggering. I understand the experience myself all too well. 🩵

The Arcana Headcanons 「M6 w/ Religious MC」

Asra

Asra is open to it. He believes that there are guiding forces in the universe, and magic certainly has its dark and light elements. I don’t see them practicing anything themselves, and they appreciate that you don’t force it on them. They’re happy to get involved at whatever capacity their own morals and beliefs allow.

He’s conscious of your observations or fastings or holidays, and he wouldn’t tempt or coerce you into not participating just to suit his fancy. Sure, he has his aesthetics, tastes, and preferences, but so do you. Your partnership together shouldn’t come at the cost of losing yourself.

Given his profession, I suspect he’s had his run in with the more unsavory crowd within religion. However, I think he’s still pretty nonjudgmental towards it all. He doesn’t toss the whole bunch of apples out because of a few rotten ones. I think he’d be more concerned if you were wandering aimlessly with no sense of self or self-direction.

Julian

Growing up, I think Julian was exposed to some form of religion by the grandmas. It’s not a lost concept to him just because he’s stopped participating.

While I don’t think he’s abandoned religion entirely, I don’t think he’s interested in returning to it, particularly organized religion. Julian struggles to visit the Temple District. Witnessing the morbid irony of Vesuvia’s beggars seeking shade beneath the marbled monasteries makes him ill.

He respects those who are like you and earnest in their convictions, but it would be hard for him to go with you. Julian is an eternal supporter and your biggest cheerleader, but he sticks to his own convictions at the end of the day as well.

Overall, Julian is deeply scientific and struggles to believe in the unseen. Nonetheless, he’s also lived a life that doesn’t deserve the outcome it’s been offered. In all his adventures, he’s certainly witnessed miracles occur - things that logic and data and research cannot explain. The fact that magic exists shows him that there are indeed forces in the cosmos, and I think in his own way he’s still trying to make sense of it all. You've definitely offered a new perspective.

Nadia

Politics and religion intertwine more than Nadia initially expected. She is very knowledgeable of world religions because of all the various diplomats she has to accommodate. Plus, Vesuvia is a multicultural community with an entire district dedicated to religions. Hence, she’s very open-minded.

Her understanding and hospitality is naturally granted towards you as well. Nadia has no qualms in participating with you. She’ll happily accompany you to the Temple District, or if it’s preferred, she’ll set up a place for you to practice at the palace. She’ll even observe fastings with you if desired. The palace staff are aware of your practices as well and make any necessary adjustments to your routine.

However, Nadia is also someone who’s always working towards unity amidst diversity. Despite her willingness, she does draw a line at certain beliefs that may cross that boundary for her. While she won’t blatantly chastise your religion, she’s not afraid to approach you with her reservations.

Muriel

I imagine Muriel has his own Kokhuri practices. They seem like a very intuitive and attuned people, so I think they’d have some form of belief intertwined into their culture.

With that said, Muriel isn’t so much interested in practicing a religion that’s different from his. He doesn’t believe in practicing something just for the hell of it. If his intentions are not genuine, then it’s merely a disservice to your genuine efforts.

Still, he absolutely supports it. Morals and convictions are precious to Muriel because without them - what’s holding people back? Lucio really engrained that ideology in like cement…

As for any forms of fasting or routine prayers or related observances, he’s mindful of giving you the space to do them. The hut is small, and he knows such moments are sacred between you and your higher power. He’ll leave if necessary, or he’ll build you a set up in the forest to practice.

Portia

Portia is probably the most flippant about religion. It’s not that she doesn’t care, rather she just has no strong opinions herself.

Portia is a lover of many things. Her heart is full enough to care about everything that’s important to others, as well as everything that’s important to herself.

She’s able to participate without much personal attachment to the belief, because at the end of the day, she’s participating for you. She loves you, and your religion is a part of you that she’s destined to love, too.

Plus, religion is often tied to humanitarianism, and that’s a big part of Portia’s worldview. She’s happy to help people in the name of many and any cause. Nonetheless, Portia does understand that religion isn’t always perfect, and I think witnessing that juxtaposition is heartbreaking for her. It would be one area she’d like to discuss with you, but she's nervous to breach the topic. The last thing she wants to do is accidentally unnecessarily degrade something that’s important to you.

Lucio

As we could surmise, Lucio has the most rigid stance in regards to religion. The Scourge practiced some form of it themselves, and it never sat well with him. He doesn’t see the point in worshipping something that either stays silent or screws you over. In his mind, you side with whatever sides with you.

He’s apprehensive and silently observes you for a while. You know Lucio is serious when he’s quiet. You’re such a polar opposite to all he's ever learned in his life, and it’s broken his brain.

I don’t know if he’d ever get in a place to comfortably practice with you, but he may awkwardly go once or twice. In the least, witnessing your dedication is… new. Lucio has only really dedicated his life to himself, so it’s mind boggling to witness someone throw that type of power to an intangible entity.

Sure, he may not have all the answers now, but he sees the fruit of your efforts in your life - mainly loving a wretch like him. Frankly, it’s quite humbling, as well as a bit scary.
