      “Child.”

   The Demon Hunter rumbles; his blindfolded gaze flitted downwards to regard the small being, and though he refers to him as young, his tone does not hold any strength over Rempo beside it’s baritone reverberation. He does not crouch, nor attempt to appear any smaller, but his neck is required to crane to get a proper feel of the being he spoke to. 

      “Explain to me the…procedure of this township.”

   No exchange of greeting follows, but a blunt approach, as if he lacked any proper socializing skills. Which he likely did.

‘ child ‘... he frowns at the word, taking full offense at being addressed as so. his height may be small--- a mere hand’s length--- and appearance taken to look like a kid, but that didn’t mean he was that young of a kid. he was a harbinger of ruin among many, birthed several worldly lifetimes ago--- he was fire and it’s guardian, the Great Rempo! and he didn’t care where this entity crawled out of, but this was uncalled for.

said great ‘being’ floated up to the other’s line of sight, making a point to prove that they were on equal speaking terms. he was no child!

“ even if I knew, I wouldn’t have told you, ” he doesn’t know anyway, “ I ain’t no one’s tourist guide. ”

“ nothing beats having hot weather all week! ” he’s rather ecstatic over the recent forecast prediction.

     was that the smell of… fire? or perhaps burnt food? no matter what it was, it drew aqua to sit up from her table in front of the cafe to go investigate, setting her cup of tea down in the process. once the smell was heavy on her nose, she looked around until she found a figure that matched the color and heat of flames. pulling her koi-distributed badge out, she spoke up to him.

“excuse me? did you cause this fire?”

his temper had reached a boiling point. his entire face must’ve been red and surely the coal-like horns on his head burned brighter. the embers coming from his body must’ve touched upon the leaves of a nearby shrub, setting the small bush alight with flames--- unbeknownst to the fire spirit. Rempo was far too caught up in his anger, curses streaming from his mouth until his attention is directly called for.

“ huh? ” he turns to come face with a shiny badge and a questioning woman in blue--- then at the glowing flames she suggested, below his hovering body. “ i may or may not have! who’s askin’? ”

          Indignant, her already round and pink cheeks puffed out and flushed even further. She hadn’t wanted to admit that she’d never played the game, and she thought she might have gotten by without it coming up. Too bad she had a big mouth. 

     With her arms crossed over her chest defensively. “It’s not that I don’t know how to play– I watched my dad do it once when I was small.”

     Despite growing up with little money, her parents had always really tried to give her the best they could, and that memory was definitely one she cherished. 

     “It’s just… it’s just been a while,” she said her eyes straying to the fish he’d pointed out. Her eyes flickered toward the man working the stand before finding their way back to the firey haired man beside her. “I’ll help you, but I can’t promise I’ll get it right on the first try.”

“ riiiight, ” the word rolled on his tongue before his lips finally pursed. there was no reason to NOT believe her--- after all, the fire spirit knew nothing about this young woman, she was chosen out of a whim--- but even so, disappointment took form in his words, attitude and posture. Rempo deflates, hovering low towards the edge of the counter as if it could all be released in one large sigh, “ looks like I made the wrong choice, you might not be a winner after all--- ”

still pouting like a child, he crosses his tiny arms upon his chest. it probably didn’t seem imposing enough when you were the height of the very tools used in this game, though Rempo liked to believe so. but as quickly as his flames were snuffed out, they had been reignited with new resolve. being able to gloat about victory and obtaining the prize bested the fact that they might need to keep attempting to actually win--- his mind was dead set on it anyway.

“ ok fine! ya know what? even if you don’t know how to play, i’m counting on you--- i chose you, after all! you still might have potential if you can try! ” so he picks up a paddle and notions the man to start the timer. they had one minute to catch as many fish as they can or until the paper dissolved into the water. “ just don’t splash any water on me, ok? i hope you’re ready! ”

          The Star Festival had been the last thing on her radar, but once she realized it was happening it definitely took center stage. She’d just wanted to go take a look, maaaybe buy herself a treat, but she definitely hadn’t been planning on playing any of the games no matter how fun they seemed. She knew better than that. After all, she only had a small amount of spending money to use– the rest would be going to whatever bills and groceries the apartment needed. 

     Not only that, but the only people she would even think about asking to join her were Deku and Kirishimi, and since she hadn’t, she didn’t expect anyone to approach her– let alone a floating stranger tugging at her sleeve.

     “Eh? But isn’t that cheating?” Of course, it was only cheating if she were to use her Quirk and obviously it was the first thing that came to mind since he had no idea about it. She shook her head vehemently. Unless…. unless she used this as a sort of training exercise. What better way to practice holding her Quirk in one spot than this game? “Okay. I’ll do it. Just tell me which fish, and we’ll definitely win– oh, but I’d need to touch it first… that won’t hurt it will it?”

“ cheating? ” brows raise. he doubts it’s any form of cheating asking another for their participation in a game. no, rather this was teamwork, camaraderie--- one individual assisting another to succeed at a task that will benefit both. well, mostly Rempo, but he’ll ignore that part.

in the least, the girl had decided to comply. even the game operator seemed overjoyed that more participants have been brought to their stall. the seedy bastard.

“ great! maybe this golden one or, or this black and white one? any fish will do! ” there were far too many to choose from anyway. the fish swam mindlessly in the water and the color didn’t matter to him, much. the fire spirit only wanted to win and wipe that smarmy face off the operator. 

“ hold up, you can’t touch the fish with your hands, only this paddle, ” he demonstrates by lifting one up to her eye level. “ ----don’t tell me you don’t know how to play? ”

legs cross as he drops onto the tabletop to sit. after such a wild explanation of these ‘magical’cards, the fire spirit needed a moment to literally sit on the idea. a thoughtful look blossoms on his features, rounded brows raised at uneven heights. 

“ ----so, from what you’re telling me, these cards unleash monsters to battle each other out on your life... points? ” the idea wasn’t far-fetched, not when Rempo came from a tome that appeared at the world’s end and could change fate itself. rather, it was safe to say he was more than interested in seeing one of these battles play out.

“ pretty cool! how ‘bout showing me a duel? ”

“ argh!! unbelievable, this shit is rigged! ”

he yells out, cheeks reddening as his temper flares, small fists glowing hot with embers. five tries had gone by and five times he had failed--- the damn fish won’t stay on the damn thing and neither would they go in the damn bowl. teeth grit and the game operator simply chuckles as they pull out another paper paddle. they lay it on the counter, visible from his angle, should the fire spirit decide to try again. cheeky, but he wasn’t having any more of this crap.

with a huff, Rempo turns his head and surveys the bustling festival crowd behind him. golden eyes flicker between individuals cheering with their own victories, sulking losers ( not like himself! ) and some others--- landing on a particularly cute-looking girl. his lips break into a smile. she’s gotta do, she looks like a winner!

“ hey, you! ” he nonchalantly floats up to her, pulling at her sleeve to grab her attention, “ you look like the type to be good at these games, i can see your potential! so---if you can win this for me, i’ll share the prize and some tokens. ”

“ i’m pissing you off? well i’ve BEEN pissed off since you started talking! you wanna go, ya big lug? ”

“ of course it is! you think i, the GREAT REMPO, would lie to you? ”
