Addie Citchens is a fiction writer from Clarksdale, Mississippi.  Her work covers the performance of blackness, sexuality, sexual violence, generational trauma, and personal healing/liberation/triumph.  Her art has been featured in the Oxford American, Callaloo, and Mixed Company. She has recently independently published her novel, The Fire-Starter, on Amazon. Who is the fire starter? I call us the Teflon  brown girls, girls who are supposed to be able to take every and anything and keep it moving, girls who manage trauma and abuse, girls who feel unloved, girls who get it done regardless. What tools do you pickup when it's time to get to work on your mind, body, and spirit?

I use music on a continual loop.  I use Pranayama, especially deep breathing and breath of fire.  I need sunshine and dance.  I practice love.  I love my Asana practice. I build my body and mind.    I read and I talk with Mary.  I love communion!! What visions do you have for the future world?

I see my lifetime of chronicling and presenting this beautiful blackness all over the world. I see community. I see peace.   I see more communal living, more good loving, good food, good people, good expression.  All I see is good.

Give thanks for Josephine ...

MAMA Josephine was a world civil rights ARTtivist, dancer, actress, and singer. Born Freda Josephine McDonald, Josephine’s work in in Africa and the Middle East, and France, with the rosette of the Résistance, was full of dark, vivid femme color, fiyah,  and tantric conviction. After the war much of her energy was devoted  to saving babies and cultivating community. Josephine’s “experiment in brotherhood” and “rainbow tribe’’ were intentional expressions of love. Josephine’s Daughters is a lit circle centering the stories and love works of wombyn throughout the African diaspora and across the world.
