The Dating Doctor knows how to ask a girl out!
A male reader got in touch wondering how to ask a girl out who he’s been chatting with for a while now.
They have a lot in common and engage in friendly e-mail conversations. Now it’s time to meet “in the flesh”. How should he set about this?
The Dating Doctor thinks he should get straight to the point! If you’ve “warmed up” a bit by exchanging messages, then you’ve definitely worked out whether you have something in common and share the same interests. So the easiest thing to do is to refer to one of these shared interests.
Do you both like good food, for instance? Why not suggest trying out a new restaurant together? Don’t forget to open with a compliment and conclude the e-mail by removing any tension from the question. An e-mail might look like this:
Subject: Time for new meetings in new places Text: Hi there! I think you’re great, and I’d love to meet you. What about if we try out this new restaurant together? As far as I know, you’ve got a passion for food like me. But, don’t worry about staying for dessert if you think I’m boring ... ;-) Hugs
How did you bring yourself to ask out a girl or guy who you met online? The Dating Doctor would love to know!

Everything you love is here.
Spice up your love life!
You know how it is. You’ve met someone, you’ve been lovebirds for a while, and then everything became routine…
Getting up early, a quick kiss, off to work and a long day at work ahead. Then you come home, you cook dinner, maybe work out a little or do another hobby, and prepare for whatever tomorrow is going to bring. And when there’s a little time to spare, all you can think about is your lovely bed.
Romance dies a little each day until you sit there and think “What happened to US?”.
A lot of couples live for the weekend. It’s only at the weekend that you can lie in bed and have a cuddle, eat breakfast together, and take trips out. The week turns into 5 days of waiting painfully for 2 days of bliss. But does this really sound like a particularly fun relationship, or a fun life for that matter?
“No, no, no!”, says the Dating Doctor. Life is both weekends and weekdays. Here are some suggestions for a really great week!
Monday: Buy some strawberries and a bottle of something bubbly. Once your lips touch the glass, a feeling of luxury come over you and your lack of motivation and tiredness will disappear. Celebrate Mondays!
Tuesday: Does your partner arrive home late? Why not buy or cook something your partner really enjoys eating and surprise him or her when they come home! Perhaps you could wear something extra nice? Advanced level: Cook in your underwear!
Wednesday: Invite friends over for dinner! Invite people to come over around 8pm so you’ve got time to prepare. Since they’ve got to work the next day as well, it’s not a problem if the evening ends early, but you still have the feeling of having had an eventful evening. Tip: No time or energy to cook? You can buy pre-prepared food at lots of grocery stores. A pre-cooked roast chicken with potato salad and a green salad on the side is a fantastic and tasty example! It needn’t be extravagant!
Thursday: Now it’s your partner’s turn to do something for you! Be clear about what would make you happy. Do you like cheese? Tell your partner how nice it would be to share a cheese plate together before bedtime, and set aside an hour for this already on Monday so that your partner has time to organise everything! Don’t get upset if it isn’t as you imagined, but remember that you have been able to look forward to this for the whole week, and they did their best for you :-)
Friday: You needn’t get up early tomorrow, so make the most of your time. If you’re really tired, half an hour’s rest together on the sofa after work can be a moment of intimacy before you hit the town. Then use Saturday and Sunday to sort things out like shopping, laundry, and other chores, but for God’s sake don’t forget to schedule a brunch and some spontaneous sex ;-) !
The Dating Doctor promises that after a week like this, you’ll be inspired to arrange lots of things to do the week after as well, and you’ll soon be back in the routine of romance again. Good luck spicing things up, and remember... You can never have too much pepper... ;-)
EVERYTHING LOVE
EVERYTHING LOVE
What is love?
Love. Just writing the word, seeing the letters, and then reading them altogether gets your thoughts flowing. What is love?
There are different types of love, of course. You don’t love your mum like you love a partner, and you love animals in a different way to how you love your favourite pizza for example. But we’re going to concentrate on the kind of love which is most relevant to us - the love between a couple - and today the Dating Doctor is going to reflect on a particular question concerning love: Is love that sort of fervent love in a relationship filled with passion and desire, or is it the security of trust between two people who respect and like one another? Bluntly speaking, there are two different descriptions of love. One always starts with the first meeting. The first meeting is when you either get butterflies in your stomach - read “love at first sight” - or are just simply interested in and attracted to the other person, making you want to see them again. If everything goes to plan, there are a few weeks in which you meet up regularly, and an emotional passion which completely separates the lovestruck couple from reality. Everything revolves about the other person! The second story is a bit more tame. You get to know one another and nothing special happens. You either become friends or socialise occasionally, or the person ends up in a list of “acquaintances”. For one reason or another, this relationship may gradually become more intense and slowly grow into a loving relationship. There may never be fire and passion, but it is loving and based on trust nonetheless. The Dating Doctor wonders which of these stories is more representative of love? Many people who are or have been in a stable relationship sometimes lack the spark, the passion, and the desire. The ‘new love’ feeling, as it is sometimes called. What if that spark and passion isn’t real? The spark might be something which you or your partner feel for one another, but isn’t something which develops by itself! Lasting affection is, however, something which may develop, and is a love which is more real. How did your relationship start? Was it new love which became care and affection, or did you start at the opposite end, so-to-speak? The Dating Doctor has experience of the beginnings of both kinds of relationship, and can state that from experience, it is the more “gentle” style that prevails. Excitement, desire, and passion can be created in a relationship based on true love. A relationship in which love is based on trust, understanding, and forgiving. So, perhaps love is the end product of a wealth of other feelings which you may have for someone. A sort of aggregated affection. Perhaps the passion and desire just add a little spice - nice to have, but not essential. And spicing things up isn’t hard to learn, if you were to miss it, that is ;).
Date your online date!
Hi there! We’ve had a lot of questions about similar topics recently. So today we’ve taken a section from ‘Answers from the Dating Doctor!
Question: Hi! I’ve tried online dating for a while now. I think I’m meeting a lot of interesting people, and I’m messaging back and forth with quite a few of them. But I never manage to agree to meet any of them. Usually things run out of steam, or we lose one another among all the messages. How do I take the plunge?
Answer: Hi! It sounds like you’ve got a case of dating feet. This is almost the same as cold feet. You’ve met someone you would like to meet, but are scared to take the next step. Stop being afraid! Nothing lost is nothing gained. Think like this - the only thing you’ve got to lose is loneliness (and a few hours of your life if your date is really terrible). The Dating Doctor’s advice is to be honest with yourself. Are you ready to meet someone? Have you left the bad things behind you? Also ask yourself what is making you - more or less consciously - hesitate? A lot of people are worried that the person they’re going to meet will be disappointed. Just must sure that you’ve uploaded a fair picture of yourself and presented yourself honestly. In the end it’s you - the 100% real you - who your future partner will love. And you’re amazing just the way you are!
Tips from the Dating Doctor!
You know the feeling - you’ve finally got a date with an absolute stunner, and you’re totally psyched about it. Then comes the question: What are we going to do?
Many people bend over backwards trying to be extra ingenious when it comes to dating ideas. You don’t want to seem boring by asking someone out for a coffee, and dinner is always a bit tricky because there’s the question of who’s going to pay the bill? And the cinema’s out of the question because you can’t talk. Don’t be scared of dating! Ask the Dating Doctor :)!
1. Stop thinking! The day before you meet, choose what you’re going to wear and decide how much time you need to get to where you’re going to meet up. Then try to keep yourself busy so that you don’t over analyse the situation. Quite simply, what will be will be!
2. Choose a neutral location! Don’t go to the café where you met your last boyfriend, or to your usual hangouts where everyone will recognise you. Try to choose a public place with which you don’t have any emotional connection.
3. Walk more! Walking is a great way to meet someone. You can talk about your surroundings, and movement staves off any anxiety (don’t forget to breathe!). You can also talk without having to sit opposite one another all the time.
4. Make use of the benefits of online dating! If you’re going to meet someone who you’ve chatted with for a while, then you’re probably already up to speed with what the person likes and what they like doing. Why not use this to your advantage when planning a date?
5. Think outside the box!* Is there something you’ve always wanted to do, but never done? An art museum, or an amusement part in a neighbouring town perhaps? You could make it your first-time experience together with your date! It might be a first-time experience for them too, and then you’ll have a shared memory from the start! Yes, dear reader, here are the Dating Doctor’s 5 supertips for how to arrange your first date! Comment and share your best dating tips, or send an e-mail with a story you want to share!
