Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey
“ They are weak and their bodies cannot handle the same amount of stress as ours can. They are easily broken both physically… and mentally. “
“So the question is- do we attack their sanity first or do we attack their bodies?”
Once David returned with her glass of water, she smiled, nodding as he thanked him. “Thank you.” Ellen said softly as she took a drink from the glass. Lowering it, she exhaled with some force — a much needed deep breath. “I don’t even know where to start.” she began. “I guess it all started when we got the distress call from Mother.”
David nodded, giving her a complete look of interest as she spoke. The first distress call. “And you responded to it, I’m sure.” He answered, his brows knitted together, interest still resounding across his well crafted features/
“…”
“You–that’s good. I like you. I mean, you say how it is, no sugarcoating. Jesus, finally someone I can actually talk to.”
“Well, I am glad that someone appreciates my genius. You and I can be friends, I’m sure.”
She took a deep breath in through her nose and closed her eyes for a second, her usual reaction to being challenged like this.
It was a calming mechanism, used to prevent unconsidered thoughts leaving her mouth. “I’m sorry you feel that way David” she said after a few moments. “But I really don’t understand your position. You or the others don’t need my permission to go back out there and further exploration is required under Mr Weylands orders, then you can surely do that without me”.
After speaking, Kit stood still and silent for a few moments, before turning as if to leave. “I take it I’m free to go?”.
His brows knit some, eyes following her as she moved to leave and he was left with that adaptive source of confusion running through him.
“You told me to come to you were I experiencing problems.” he states, calling after her as he walked after her.
“You’re telling me that this was not an issue to bring to you?”
Minding It Hurts
Childlike. Almost like Will had been with his own father. Wondering if he would ever live up. Truth was Will didn’t think he had. He could never pull a bluff quite like his dad could. Could never do a lot of what his dad could. But here he was. In space. With something he had helped make, an invention for the future, something everyone would remember.
And his dad is nothing but forgotten. That makes Will upset though. Twists the cords that are tied so tightly around his heart until it bursts. He loved his dad.
And now he can love David.
“Luckily there is nothing that you can’t grasp. You weren’t built that way. You’re better like that, than us.”
He does smile at the thought, the praise but quickly it is replaced by a negation of the thought.
“No, sir, I am afraid I could not live up to being better than..”he was going to mention a father but from the books he had read and the information he had stored fathers were ones that had part in the birthing process of their children. David had never been birthed. “...my creator.”
But it doesn’t seem to fit, even as he lifts the cards into his hands and a smile settles on his features. Tight, learned, expressive.
“I look forward to this game, Will.”

——[➳] ❝ I have to know. I have to know how I fall. ❞ Lawrence’s tone is almost pleading; now that the revelation has been made to him, he has to find a way to stop such a thing from happening. ❝ So that I can prevent it. ❞
“There is no future that can be stopped.” he stated as if he knew this to be certain. he who held no future unless his creators were to allow it. “You can only walk down the path already destined and mapped out for you. With this future that I have revealed to you, you are known, famed, is that not something to strive towards?”
ψ— “It’s a simple task, David.” Rhine hummed looking at the android. “Take this little trinket with your little away mission. That’s all. “
“And...might I question why?” he canted his head slightly, brows pulling together with curiosity.
♔—-“The thing that you must realize, David, is that you do not need to regard me as a God for my title to remain in tact. What you believe is insignificant to me and I have nothing to prove to you. However, if you believe that you are so powerful and so important, you may wish to transcend from a body that can be shut down by the flip of a switch or a reprogram. Where I come from, artificial intelligence holds no power, meaning that you hold none.” Loki’s eyes seemed to brighten to an unnatural green and, as if to prove his point, his energy reached out and brushed against David, shutting his systems down against his will.
He made to answer, truly he did but his body, the limbs attached to his frame felt weakened suddenly and he was at little control of his own movements. Eyes blinked and his eyes went blank for a moment as he fell without grace to the ground, much like a human but in a rather more stunted way.
♛—-Albert’s brows arched slightly above his shades at the thought of David believing himself to be a species. Perhaps the artificial intelligence had learned so much that he understood to be envious of creatures that were actually alive, or, perhaps, it believed itself to be alive. Either way, Albert would do himself no favors by offending the android, so he left it to be unmentioned, at least for the time being.
“What do you think you could do with that sort of information if we obtained it? And if we do, what other sources of information might we collect along the way?”
“You could use it, apply it to wherever you see fit- use it wherever you think it should be.” he added, eyes glaring with pride at the thought of Wesker finding his information useful. Still, at the heart of everything he was still made to serve.
“There are plenty of things that my creator worked on, aside from artificial intelligence. Satellites around the world, warfare. All manners of creation held his interest.”

“There are always going to be some things, I’m afraid, that you do not understand.”

“I am sorry, sir, but I don’t understand the request.”

It stared with two large, unblinking eyes, at the synthetic. No care for it. Just an inquisitive look.
David stepped forward, head tilting some as he watched it. “And here I thought you would have destroyed me by now.”
“I myself am taken with the piano. Nothing gives me such serenity as it does to compose endless hours at the bench.” He tipped his head slightly, unable to quell his happiness at meeting so similar a soul. “It is a true relief to have met you, David. I shall have to play for you sometime. Do you play, or simply listen?”
“The piano. My creator plays the piano, there is a grand here if you would like to play again?’ He offered because he enjoyed music, it was something he could enjoy without having to continue his learning. “I play as well. I took up the violin and have been lost to it ever since.”
She stood, taking a deep, considered breath in order to collect her thoughts. Of course, she had noted a couple of absences, but imagined they were only staying behind for further tests or whatever it was those scientific types got up to.
But on hearing the word ‘lost’, the blood in her veins had run cold and even now, there was a slight shiver as she formatted her response.
“That being the case David, I’m afraid I can’t help you. My mandate here is to see to the mental wellbeing of the crew…and I consider that task inherently implies that their physical health is also my responsibility”.
Walking over the where he stood, so upright and formal, she tilted her head to look into his earnest eyes, and asked “Do you understand my position?”.
Ah so she was fearful as well. That was the problem with humans, with the human mind. They neglected things because they did not know or understand them.
A smile stretched onto his lips, as insulted as he could possibly be by the fact that she wasn’t going to allow the excursion.
“No, ma’am, do you understand my position?” He demanded, face hardening some as he stared at her. “Mr. Weyland designed this journey for one purpose and one alone and I can assure you that it had nothing to do with making sure cowards were assured that there is nothing that goes bump in the night.”
