Summary:

“You know Hilary. She used to know every single thing.” (Nancy, TUA S4E01)

Hilary was curious about Jerome. Really curious. Naturally, Lila couldn’t resist having a little fun and decided to play matchmaker between Five and her ‘friend’ in the Keepers.

Sneak peek:

“Nancy, darling, you’ve been holding out on us,” Hilary’s sweet voice chimed as an arm looped through hers. “I thought you said you were single!” 

“Hilary, it’s been so long!” Lila replied with a smile. 

“Well, I didn’t think I would attend another meeting for a while... But Carolyn told me you came to the last one with your beautiful beau.” Hilary’s eyes sparkled as she looked pointedly at Lila. “Is he here? You have to introduce us!” 

Lila tensed slightly. Introducing Five as her ‘handsome fella’ had been a spur-of-the-moment decision, mostly to explain why they’d been whispering during the presentation. It also explained why they’d spent the rest of the evening close together and eventually left as a pair. She thought about how to go with this story as she scanned the room, spotting him by the bar, talking to Larry from the Orlando branch. 

Hilary, ever observant, caught her gaze instantly. 

“Is that him? The one with the mustache?” 

“That’s Jerome, yes,” Lila said, trying to sound casual. 

“My, Nancy, I must say, you have excellent taste. Hmm, that mustache is something,” Hilary said, clearly checking him out, her fan tapping her chin in thought.

I saw the reference picture below, and really liked it. So I kind of imagine the scenario of Five and Lila going to a snooty aunt of her’s second wedding, wherein said aunt absolutely demanded everyone follow her dress code…

Lila stood on the terrace of their apartment, enjoying the night view of the city. The part of the terrace behind her was also newly illuminated with strings of lights, giving the place an even more pleasant atmosphere.

Five approached her and placed a blanket over her shoulders, Lila looked up at him and smiled gratefully.

"This view is perfect..."

"It is," he agreed and he was looking at her.

"I think this is my favorite place."

"Really?"

"Yes!" She smiled and kissed him.

Five then took her hand and they went to sit under the shelter where the seating area was.

"Wow, are we celebrating something?"

There was a bowl of strawberries on the table and two glasses of champagne without alcohol.

"Just wanted to make you happy," he smiled and they toasted together.

Lila took the bowl of strawberries on her lap and talked while eating the strawberries, giving him some now and then, and Five watched her the whole time with a little bit of expectations.

Lila suddenly paused as she felt something that was definitely not a strawberry, looked into the bowl and pulled out a ring. She looked at Five in surprise.

He knelt down in front of her, looking like he had when he had given her the bracelet back then in their original greenhouse. He took the bowl and set it aside, then took her hand and smiled.

"Lila... my love..."

Lila could only stare at him, her heart racing.

"It might be a good time for me to ask you to marry me... but I'm not gonna do it... though a part of me would love to hear your yes... but I want you to know that if you wanted it that way, if it were possible, I would marry you right here and now... but at the same time, I would want you to decide for yourself, regardless of anything else. When you're divorced one day, I want it to be your decision if you ever want to be married again, or if you want to be single forever for that matter. To me, you're my wife either way, and I don't need any paper to prove it... I'll love and protect you as long as I live, and I'll be by your side as long as you want me. This ring is my promise that you will always be the most important person in my life."

Tears of happiness glistened in Lila's eyes and then she smiled brightly. It was exactly the smile that Five adored so much. It was the smile that made him smile too.

She leaned in to kiss him and then hugged him. And it was a very joyful and energetic hug. In fact, she almost jumped into his arms and, as he hadn't expected, they ended up on the floor, looked at each other and started laughing.

Lila looked at him, "this is perfect..."

"Yeah?"

Lila nodded her head and gave him a long kiss.

As they picked themselves up off the floor and sat back down on the couch, Lila looked at Five, "you know I love our paperless marriage... but that doesn't mean that if it grabs us one day that we don't decide from minute to minute to make it official... that I'd be against it. I don't want any planning... if it's going to happen, it's going to happen. Is that okay?"

"Totally."

"And you think I can wear the ring?"

"Well, of course, you can do whatever you want with it."

Lila put it in his hand and then held out her own hand for him to put it on. Five looked at her as he did so with that slightly cocky grin of his. Then he took her hand and kissed her on it. Lila smiled happily again and then took a good look at the ring for the first time.

The ring was white gold, and the ornamentation made the stone in the middle look like a strawberry, with a heart-shaped cut in a pinkish-purple hue.

"It's really beautiful! Thank you."

"I'm glad you like it."

Uhm- I honestly wasn't going to post anything else for this week, but y'all! The love you gave to my last piece was so overwhelming, I couldn't just- not write more. Seriously, I don't think I have ever felt so welcome in a fandom before ;u; <3

I know it's not day two, just roll with it-
