The amused snort that the Feraligatr made was enough to prove she didn’t much care for the lie. Still, she rested her head back down and closed her eyes.

Cara sat up and nodded, “Some water would be wonderful. Thank you.”

Leigh passed over the bottle, then sat down and took out a bottle for herself. The Feraligatr’s reaction confused her, but she hid this by taking a long drink from her bottle.

“I’m Leigh, by the way.” Leigh said, crossing her legs and tossing her backpack to the ground beside her.

Cara opened her eyes at the sudden voice. She hadn’t expected many people to traverse in the heat, especially this close to night.

Having been drifting off into sleep was easy given her heat addled state. Lady, who had watched the girl approach since a few meters away, lifted her head up to get a better view. When she did, the view of her mangled scar was apparent.

“Oh,” Cara blinked and smiled, “Yeah, Just…its very hot.”

“Oh. . .” Leigh shrugged off her green backpack and reached inside, withdrawing a bottle. “That’s a beautiful Feraligatr you have. Want some water? Or some berries?”

Alola…was brutally hot.

Reclining back against her large jawed Pokemon, Cara let out a soft puff of exasperated air. Her leather jacket and hoodie forgotten by her side, she enjoyed what little chill the ice of Feraligatr’s fist gave off.

Why she thought the clothes she brought would suffice in a tropical environment was beyond her heat stroked mind. As she laid with nothing but her tang top and jeans on underneath the shade of a large tree, she groaned. Her stomach was sick, her throat dry, and her skin sticky.

“I think we’re gonna die out here, Lady.”

The Feraligatr in question snorted, amused, but otherwise didn’t move. The approaching dusk would help cool everything down.

This Alolan weather was great.

It allowed for barefoot walks at sunset, such as the one that Leigh was partaking in now. She stretched her arms out leisurely, then clasped her hands behind her head.

Alola was so much more different than Johto. Hell, it was different than all the other regions she’d been to, but of course she could say that about every region. 

One thing that remained the same, however, were her solitary walks through the wilderness in search of her next battle or a place to camp. The latter was her goal now, made all the more harder by the open area. There was a tree up ahead that would be nice to settle under, but it seemed to already be occupied. And the occupant didn’t seem to be doing too well. . .

“Hey, are you alright?” Leigh asked, letting her arms fall to her sides as she approached.

I’ve been listening to this on repeat for the entirety of creation of this (4+ hours) and it reminded me so much of Delilah and Beckett’s relationship. So, turns out Delilah can sing.

The explanation gave her pause, making her consider her own take on the universe, rolling the words over and over again in her mind. She, personally, knew no one who could change their shape without the aid of a potion or spell, save for the rumors of werewolves of which she had no proof. “It makes sense, I suppose.” In this world of science, genetics, and magic that she had never encountered, it made perfect sense. To her, it only made her long for the simplicity of home and their take on magic.

The woman clasped her hands nervously. “I’m sorry if it doesn’t. Demonstrations are the easiest way to explain things to be quite honest.”

He scaled down the side of the building, landing onto the ground with a bit of roughness. He wiped his hands on his jeans in an attempt to dry off the sweat before striding over towards the other man.

“Ooh, really? Y’ must be a pretty big deal, then.” Leo shrugged, thumbs now hooked into his pockets. “I dunno ’bout any weird stuff happenin’. I’m, uh, not from ’round. But hey, I’d like to help in anyway I can.”

“Yeah, you could say that. . .” He was quiet for a moment, staring at the stranger analytically, as though he was trying see an anterior motive in the man. His instincts weren’t giving him any warning, and his instincts were always right.

“Right,” Gabriel reached into his pack pocket, pulling out several photos and handing them to Leo. “These people have recently gone missing from this area under. . . unusual circumstances. The local police are lost, so I’ve been called in.” Then he added offhandedly, “My name is Gabriel, by the way.”
