can i be serious about the stupid cannibal man for a moment. like we joke about hannibal continuously being surprised at the consequences of his own actions & yes it is objectively hilarious but the thing is that hes NOT. i believe he is well aware of all the ways things can end once he puts them in motion. what he does not & cannot predict when will graham is involved is how he himself will react emotionally. all the times he tried to distance himself from will & succeeded he was genuinely surprised because everything worked the way he had intended it to work but he did not like it. & honestly can you really blame him???? this is a man who has built an entire fortress around himself, who most likely has not bothered maintaining any actual human connections since his childhood. he is accustomed to using & discarding people as he seems fit because they ultimately mean nothing. & then here comes this guy & against all odds & pretty much against his own will hannibal starts actually caring about him & its Strange. its Difficult. he has no point of reference & he does not know how to act so he keeps doing what hes always done & it does! not! work!!! & as someone who is always in control of every aspect of his life this must be extremely frustrating. man id be mad as hell too
