What is the setting of your au?
Is it comidic or dramatic or something else?

BOY THIS IS SO LATE OMG i actually forgot abt this um.. anyways! all these questions will be answered set in the main plot of DOYTAU, not like after they get better
1. DOYTAU (drunk on your truth) is set in new york city! time frame is like. just present… maybe pre-covid… i honestly dont know.. only cuz of their fav artists are very 2026 but like. hm. yeah idk. its set in NYC tho!!!
2. if DOYTAU was a show (which i have thought a lot about) the first season would be more scar focused and more comedic and light hearted. think of warm colors, pinks, yellows, reds. the first season/half of the story is more warm. (the turning point is when they kiss). so the second season is more grian focused. cooler tones. blues, purples, greens. with some reds and yellows. that part is a lot more solemn and angsty. more deep and dramatic.
3. main characters meet by scar going to a bar with his friends, jimmy and lizzie and seeing a gorgeous beautiful man working at the bar (grian)!!!
4. grian is a bartender and scar works in like advertisement or like sales or smth
5. when the story starts grian is 24 and scar is 23! (however the main plot of the story goes through grians birthday)
6. grians family lives in like north carolina or smth. on the water. his family owns a fishing business! grian has a sister who is gem! i would say they are close, however when grian was in high school he started distancing himself away and obviously moved to NYC as soon as he graduated. scar is very close with his family but his family lives in new jersey so he doesnt see them a lot. they had a more secretive relationship also bc scars parents are not wealthy at all and didnt let him know that to “protect” him
7. relationship at beginning: scar is always teasing and flirting w grian and grian is SICK of it hes always annoyed. scar: “hey baby whacha up to?” “leave me tf alone” “ok”. middle: they are flirting and grian is opening up more. then they kiss and then like start “dating” (without dating) and its all happy yay! end: but then grian relapses in his drinking and like pushes scar away and realizes like “i need to get my shit together” and yeah its sad and angsty but they reunite
8. grians obvious one is his drinking problem but its rooted in his fear of commitment and being open and having to actually deal with his feelings. scar always believes he isnt enough so when grian pushes him away hes like “??? omg i thought u loved me omg i am actually the worst person ever” and blames himself. he also gives too much too quickly

10. scar wants to fall in love and have that cliche movie romance and find his soulmate<3 while grian is too focused on staying alive to have dreams
11. they need a lot of angst and hurt to get where they are at the end of the story lmao. but seriously, both grian and scar need to get out of their heads to actually progress. like they both are so used to their ways that they are scared of actually changing to help better fit the other person. grian uses others and alcohol to deal with his problems (uses scars never-ending comfort) and scar thinks he can be fixed if he fixes others.
12. main conflict is probably grian. like his alcoholism is what ruins everything. it takes grian ghosting scar because he feels so awful for using his alcoholism to handle his problems for both of them to realize their own issues. scar finally lashes out on grian, grian gets the help the need. and yeah
13. gem is grians sister and she kind of is the voice of reason. she doesnt have a big role until grian starts getting bad again but she helps him work through his problems and getting help. lizzie and jimmy are like scar’s hype guys. they encourage him to flirt w grian and sing for him (even when it doesnt end well)
14. grian changes a lot because he learns to deal with his emotions instead of using alcohol as a tool to take care of them for him. im gonna be honest, i have to think about scar a lot more. i think his big change is that he learns to love himself without needing another person to love him to feel loved.
15. all of it. its my first au and first au that ive ever been this excited and passionate about. i love the vibes and the story and how it all comes together. i love how it started and how its grown into what it is now. i love how i keep expanding on the story even after the main plot, like with grian and scar after they reunite.
16. i remember vividly how i came up with this au. i was in the car listening to stranger by boywithuke and i was driving downtown at night with my parents and we were on our way to see chicago the musical. it was snowy and cold and the lights of the street lamps were glowing. and i remember just thinking abt an au and like. i love the vibes of downtown and the au was originally called “scarian night-life au” before it gots its official name. bc of how much i love that downtown, nightlife aesthetic. i was also partially inspired by the sims 2 nightlife expansion lmao
