The Girl with the Cyber-Face

A collaboration ficlet by @julibellule and @buffyann23
Pairing: Tenth Doctor x Rose Tyler Rating: Teen Summary: There is no way the Tardis could avoid getting thrown in the parallel universe after GitF. If Reinette wouldâve been with them the consequences couldâve been disastrous.
Read on: ao3 or ff.net
âKISS ME, MY LONELY ANGEL.â The deep mechanical voice called out as it grew closer.
âUnbelievable.â Rose muttered angrily as The Doctor tightened his grip on her hand and pulled her down yet another long hallway within the large factory housing Lumicâs army of Cybermen. âOf all the stupid idiotic things⌠âI know what Mâ doinâ Rose. Sâ only one trip and Mâ perfectly capable of keepinâ her safe âcause Mâ jus sooo impressiveâ.â she mocked in perfect imitation of his estuary accent.
âWell how was I suppose to know weâd end up in a parallel universe filled with Cybermen?â The Doctor replied in his defense as they ran.
âWell I hope youâre happy now âcause not only is history startinâ to unravel but it seems your new and improved metal girlfriend has decided she wants to kill us. Or, well me anyway. Apparently she jusâ wants to snog you.â
âFor the last time sheâs not my girlfriend.â The Doctor bit out, pulling his sonic from his pocket and pointing it at the lock on the door in front of them.
âOh really?â Rose shot back as the Doctor grabbed her wrist and pulled her through the now open door.
They closed it just in time to hear the heavy metallic footsteps pass by followed by the repetitive monotone cadence of âKISS ME, MY LONELY ANGEL.â
âThen maybe you should tell her that âcause she seems to have a different opinion of your relationship.â she said half bitter half mocking. âI thought Cybermen didnât have any emotions but she sure seems to be quite infatuated with you.â
âThey donât have any emotions Rose.â It didnât take long for the Doctor to notice they had ended up in a room with no other exit but a small window. âItâs probably a malfunction with the speech subroutines implanted in her brain. Reinette was a strong-willed women and some of her past memories must have resurfaced while she was fighting against the implants.â
Rose shivered at the thought. She didnât want to think about the irony here. They saved the poor womanâs brain from becoming part of an abandoned spaceship in the 51st century only to have it instead be transplanted into a cold, emotionless metal body in a parallel 21st. For a moment she wondered which fate was worse.
âSo youâre tellinâ me her brain jusâ got stuck on some random thought or somethinâ which jusâ so happens to be you?â
âPretty much.â The Doctor answered absentmindedly while casting the blue light of his sonic on a spot beside the window, making the whole scenario seem oddly familiar.
Rose glared at the Doctorâs back knowing full well why he was at the window with his sonic in hand and it wasnât to resonate concrete. She had heard him bragging about snogging Madame de Pompadour after his second trip through the fireplace on that godforsaken spaceship and now he was purposely busying himself with a pointless task in order to avoid her question.
âAnd of course you didnât do anythinâ to put that thought into her head now, did you?â she asked sarcastically.
âRoseâŚâ The Doctorâs response was interrupted by a loud banging on the door.
âKISS ME, MY LONELY ANGEL. KISS ME.â
Rose threw her hands up in frustration. âDoctor, will you stop tryinâ to resonate concrete. We need to get out of here!â The sound of metal fists cracking through the strong wood sent a wave of adrenaline rushing through her and she cried out again. âDoctor!!!â
âQuick, in here!â The Doctor pulled Rose towards a small supply closet in the corner of the room.
It was little more than a cupboard filled with a variety of strong smelling bottles of chemicals, a couple of mops and brooms and a vacuum cleaner. With barely enough space to even stand straight Rose clambered inside, stumbling over a large bucket as she pressed her back against one of the shelves while wondering just how the Doctor expected them to both fit inside once the door was closed.
The Doctor on the other hand didnât seemed to be particularly bothered at all by their current predicament as he squeezed himself in, pressing his body tightly against hers as he closed the door behind him. âFor the record, I wasnât resonating concrete.â he whispered in her ear.
Memories of a northern accent and worn black leather filled her mind and she exhaled the rush it gave her against The Doctorâs neck. She kept still for a few moments, allowing her eyes to adjust to the dark as the heat in the small cupboard began to increase exponentially.
The Doctor shifted a bit, trying to find a comfortable position. Neither of them were particularly cozy, the short compartment making them both bend awkwardly against one another. Rose attempted to use The Doctorâs movement to her advantage as she tried to tug down the skirt of her maidâs dress without any success, his leg between hers trapping it against her bum.
âA cupboard Doctor, really?â she asked irritably.
âShhâŚâ was his only reply and she quickly bit back a snippy retort sighing inwardly.
Rose wriggled, trying to straighten her dress once more but immediately stopped squirming when she felt the beating of his hearts begin to accelerate against her chest and his breath catch near her temple. They were very⌠close. The realization having just dawned on her and she swallowed hard as the temperature spiked another notch.
The sound of the door to the room being broken down was a welcome distraction to the growing intensity between them and they immediately froze in place listening as the last of the wood pieces were sent clattering to the floor only to be crushed to rubble and splinters by the klunk of heavy footsteps as the hollow voice of the metal woman once again called out for her angel.
The Doctor mustâve noticed Roseâs breath getting heavier at the possibility that they could be found at any moment because he suddenly pulled her closer to him.
âEasy.â he murmured against her ear and she wasnât quite sure if he was trying to soothe her or himself. This whole situation was a complete mess.
They clung to one another tightly as they listened to âCyber-netteâ, as Rose had begun to refer to the courtesan-turned robot in her head, make her way around the room and after a few moments her cries and thumping footsteps began to retreat. Letting out a breath of relief, the pairsâ grip on one another slackened slightly and The Doctor brushed his lips against Roseâs ear making her shiver.
âLetâs wait a few minutes to make sure the coast is clear and then weâll go okay?â he murmured.
Unsure as to whether or not she could even squeak out a reply from the effect he was starting to have on her, Rose could only nod her head in response. The silence stretched on between them for a few more moments as they listened intently for any sign of Cyber-netteâs return when Rose suddenly found herself speaking up, her curiosity having gotten the better of her.
âSo what kind of kiss was it anyway?â she asked, slightly shocked by her own bravado.
âWhat?â The Doctor asked, confusion lacing his tone.
âWell, you said you kissed her yeah?â
âShe kissed me.â he interjected.
âOkay fine, she kissed you. I was jusâ curious as to what kind of kiss it was.â
The Doctor released a heavy sigh through his nose before responding. âDoes it matter?â
Rose shrugged. âI dunno. I guess not. I mean, I was jusâ thinkinâ it must of been some spectacular sort a kiss if it stuck with her enough for her to remember it after⌠ya know.â
âRose, just to be clear, she kissed me. And yes I kissed back out of reflex but it didnât mean anything. It was just a simple kiss, a one-off.â he paused, his hands moving up to cradle her face. âHere, Iâll show you.â
Rose let out a squeak of surprise as his lips captured hers but after a few seconds she slowly began to respond, her hands drifting up his chest to rest over his hearts. For his own part, The Doctor was now beginning to realize his mistake in trying to reassure her. He had forgotten just how dangerous kissing Rose Tyler could be. Usually he was able to control his impulses and reactions to her thanks to his highly evolved Time Lord mind and genetics but now, trapped in this small cupboard with her soft curves molding to his hard planes, he wasnât sure if he could stop himself or if he even wanted to anymore. Moving one hand to cup the back of her head as the other slid to her lower back to pull her even tighter against him, he deepened the kiss and with the first brush of his tongue along hers, his control snapped.
When the need for air became too great Rose broke the kiss, sucking in a breath as The Doctorâs lips began to descend down her neck and latch onto her pulse point and she gasped, arching into him.
âDoctor.â she breathed.
âRose.â he growled possessively, pressing his hips tightly against hers and allowing her to feel the evidence of his arousal. Â
Eyes widening in shock, Rose pushed hard against his chest to get him to pull back. âOh my god. Doctor, did you and sheâŚâ
âNo.â he cut her off firmly, his dark eyes boring into hers as he willed her to believe him.
âBut the way you jusâ kissed me.â she shook her head. âThat was a lot more than a âsimple little kissâ Doctor. Not to mention youâreâŚâ she drifted off glancing down between them.
A slow smirk began to spread across The Doctorâs face. âOh no, thatâs just you, Rose Tyler.â He grinded his hips against hers, earning him another gasp. âI seem to have lost what little self-control I had left now that youâre in my arms like this.â
âBut I thought⌠I mean after our talk the other night outside the chippy I figured you didnât want me like that.â
âOh I want you Rose. Iâve wanted you for a long time. Iâve tried pushing you away and putting other people between us but it hasnât worked and now the universe is collapsing around us and Iâm tired of fighting it.â
His mouth descended upon hers once more and this time she didnât stop him.
It wasnât exactly as they had always imagined, trapped in a broom closet, hiding from an obsessed metal woman and yet it was so very them. The Doctor practically ripped Roseâs tights from her body in his haste as they pushed aside only the minimal amount of clothing before coming together. It was hard, and it was fast, and it was perfect.
As they drifted down from their euphoric bliss The Doctor moved his hand to cup Roseâs cheek and pressed his lips to hers once more, pouring all the love he felt for her but couldnât yet say into the kiss and she responded fervently, so much so she felt her heart might burst.
âWell that wasâŚâ she breathed out when he finally pulled back.
âYeahâŚâ he agreed, chuckling softly.
They stole glances at one another as they righted themselves and refastened their clothing, unable to keep the smiles from their faces. The Doctor leaned in to give Rose one more lingering kiss and then turned to open the door. The pair began to clamber out of the small cupboard when The Doctor stopped short, causing Rose to stumble against him as he stood gaping at the sight of the poshly dressed Cyberwoman standing in the middle of the room.
âANGEL?â
âOh, right.â The Doctor nodded to himself, now remembering their original reason for hiding out in the first place.
âRose?â he said quietly.
âYeah?â
Reaching back, he entwined their fingers. âRun!â he shouted, yanking her towards the giant hole in the wall that used to be a door.
They legged it out of the factory, managing to avoid any further run-ins with âCyber-netteâ or any of the other Cybermen, and hurried across the bridge to where the TARDIS sat waiting. Once inside, Rose leaned back against the doors taking a moment to catch her breath while The Doctor quickly made his way up the ramp to the console and began flipping switches.
âSheâs at full power.â he announced, staring at the calculations on the monitor.
âSo now what?â Rose asked as she moved to join him.
âWeelll, we could still try to take her back. Maybe they wonât be able to tell the difference. I mean, by this time she and the King were no longerâŚâ he tugged his ear. âWell, you know.â
Rose rolled her eyes. âDoctor, Mâ pretty sure the King and the rest of Versailles Sâ still gonna notice the difference between a six foot seven metal robot in a dress and the uncrowned queen of France.â
The Doctor sucked in a breath, eyebrows lifting in thought as he nodded. âRight. Okay, then what would you suggest?â
âI dunno, but thereâs gotta be somethinâ.â
âThere may be one thing.â he paused in thought. âBut itâs a bit risky.â
The color drained from Roseâs face in realization. âOh no Doctor. No. You said crossinâ your own timeline was dangerous. What about reapers?â
âThat wouldnât happen this time since we already know exactly where weâre gonna be. If I make a small adjustment to the timing on the fireplace right after I come through at the five and a half hour mark, then when I try to go back for her it would be years later rather than hours and Iâd most likely be too late. The only thing is,â he took her hands in his. That means this timeline weâre in now will change. We wonât remember any of this. Being here, the things we said,â he swallowed roughly and met her eyes. âWhat we did.â
Rose nodded in understanding. A small part of her wanted to say no, to suggest they try to find another way but she knew it had to be done, for the sake of the universe. Even if it meant them going back to constantly dancing around their feelings while he continued to try to put barriers between them.
âSo,â she began somewhat hesitantly, staring down at their hands and hating that she still felt a bit insecure in comparison to Reinette even after all that had happened. âIf you were too late to go back for her wouldnât you be⌠I dunno upset or disappointed?â
The Doctor placed two fingers under her chin and lifted her head to meet his eyes once more. âOnly because I would feel bad for not being able to keep my promise of taking her on a trip in thanks for helping me get back to you.â He gave her a soft, reassuring smile. âMy hearts belong to you Rose. Ever since I took your hand in that basement. No one else.â
Roseâs eyes sparkled as she tried to hold back her tears. âDoctor, if weâre not going to remember this anyway thenâŚâ she took a deep breath. âI⌠I love you.â
âRose Tyler,â The Doctor smiled warmly his eyes crinkling in the corners. âI love you too, my precious girl.â
They moved together, their lips meeting in a passionate kiss. His arms wrapped around her, crushing her to him as his tongue explored her mouth while she wound her arms around his neck, her hands carding through his hair.
Pulling back, The Doctor reached up and tucked a lock of hair behind her ear, his knuckles brushing lightly against her cheek. âYou know, as much fun as that cupboard was I was thinking we should take advantage of what little time we have left and do things properly. What do you think?â
âI think thatâs quite possibly your best idea yet.â Rose grinned, tongue in teeth. âSo⌠mine or yours?â
Sweeping her up into his arms, he looked deeply into her eyes as he headed for the corridor. âHow about just this once, ours?â

Roseâs first thought upon waking up to a strange womanâs face looming above her was something along the lines of oh my god, sheâs gorgeous, followed closely by what am I doing on the floor and who is she?
âAh, youâre awake. I was starting to worry.â The womanâs voice rolled over her like a velvet caress, soft as the fingers that were gently testing the edges of what felt like a wound around her temple.
âFeels like someone hit me with a frying pan,â Rose muttered, trying to sit up. She immediately regretted it as the pain in her head intensified.
âNo, no, no, stay still, Rose. I havenât quite figured out the extent of this injury yet and moving is not advisable.â
âFigured that out on my own, thanks,â she snarked. âAnd who are you then, some kind of doctor?â
The womanâs blue eyes flashed with something like exasperation and fondness as she shook her head. âVery funny, Rose. Never heard that one before.â
Rose narrowed her eyes. âWhat are you talking about? That was a serious question.â She moved to try and bat the womanâs hands away from her face. âWho are you and why do you seem to know who I am?â
The woman pulled back, eyebrows drawing together as she stared down at her. âThis isnât the time for a joke at my expense, not when you actually have a head wound.â

Summary: The Doctor tries to convince Rose that he knows where to get the best chocolate. She tries someâŚand so does he.
Relationship: Nine x Rose
Notes: This is in response to the @timepetalsprompts weekly drabble prompt âchocolateâ. Itâs in 3x 100 word drabbles (actually, the third one is slightly longer, but letâs pretend it isnât). Hope you like!
Also on AO3.
âReally?â Rose looked sceptical.
âIâm serious, Rose!â The Doctor insisted. âItâs fantastic! Best chocolate in the Amalli system, that is. Tailored perfectly to your biochemistry at the time of sale.â
âSeriously? Why?â
âYour biochemistry changes, Rose, anâ that sometimes changes how things taste to you. This chocolate is made to perfectly suit your tastes on that day.â
Rose seized the sleeve of his leather jacket and dragged him to the console room.
âOi!â he protested. âNo man-handling!â
She fixed him with a warning look. âYouâre takinâ me there, Doctor. Right now.â
The Doctor rolled his eyes and set the coordinates.
++++++++++++++++++
âThis is amazinâ,â Rose moaned, licking at her chocolate covered lips.
The Doctor shifted uncomfortably. âTold you it was good.â
âMmmmmmmm,â she moaned, popping another square into her mouth. ââS gorgeous. Best thing Iâve ever tasted.â
The Doctor shifted and cleared his throat. âRight, Iâll leave to you to it, then.â
âWait, Doctor! Donât you want some?â
The Doctor was caught like a deer in the headlights. âIâŚno, itâs yours. Made for you, remember?â
âI want you to have some!â she insisted, nibbling at another piece, drawing his eyes to her lips.
He cursed his inability to refuse her anything.
++++++++++++++++++++
Seeing that he was staying, she grinned smugly. âItâll be the best thing you ever taste!â
His eyes burned. âDoubt that.â
She scoffed. âWhat, you reckon you can find something that tastes better than this?â
He nodded, forcibly restraining himself. âKnow I can.â
âProve it.â She popped another piece of chocolate into her mouth and moaned.
He broke.
Lunging forward, he crushed his lips to hers, devouring her.
She squeaked in surprise before moaning and responding eagerly. She tasted of chocolate and sweetness and Rose.
She was addictive.
Finally, he drew back to let her catch her breath. âYou taste much better than any chocolate, Rose Tyler,â he growled as he licked at her bottom lip.
She panted, pupils wide with want. âYou taste pretty good yourself, Doctor.â She grinned suddenly. âAlmost as good as the chocolate.â
âOI!â
Ok so for a fic prompt, how about discombobulated?
This is ridiculous.
Warning: The Doctor is drunk and thereâs a little bit of suggestive behavior toward Rose. No other inappropriate foul play. ;)
Thanks to @aimtoallonsy for help with a few lines.

Discombobulated
âDis-com-boob-ulated,â the Doctor sing-songs, then giggles once he realizes his verbal faux pas. He sways on the couch and spends just a second too long inspecting Roseâs breasts in the alcohol induced foggy aftermath of his thoughts.
Rose blushes and crosses her arms over her chest. âDoctor!â
âDis-com-botu-lated,â he tries once more, ignoring her, testing out the sounds with his tongue and lips.
Rose sighs. She supposes itâs her fault, really.
When sheâd learned he could allow himself to be affected by alcohol, sheâd challenged him to drink like a human for the night.
The Doctor, of course, never backs down from a challenge.
A bottle of leftover hypervodka from Jackâs days on the TARDIS lays on its side, the contents currently sploshing about the Doctorâs insides. Itâs taken more than a bottle of hypervodka for him to reach this point, and Rose canât decide if sheâs filled with more amusement or regret.
She pulls out her mobile from 24th century Earth and quickly turns on the video camera.
âDis-com-bobbyâ" He stops, mouthing the word a few times. âRose, who is Bobby? He ânother one of your pretty boys?â the Doctor slurs, sitting up a little straighter and running his fingers through his hair. âWhat, âm I not pretty enough for you?â
Amusement. Definitely amusement.
Nine/Rose AU King Theta of Gallifrey was straightening the bow tie of his tux as he waited for his official escort. He'd tired of the endless line of would be queens and asked his assistant, Jack, to pick a girl with no royal ambitions. He was informed his companion for the ball was a career minded young lady by the name of Rose Tyler.
âStop fussing with it!â His sister hissed as his hands reached up towards his neck once more. âItâs fine!â
âYou know I donât like bowties, Donna!â He whined. âReminds me of all those awful functions we had to go to when we were younger, and the suit I had to wear at the funeral. I donât know why I canât wear a tieâŚâ
She crossed her arms. âBecause the even has always been black tie and youâre not changing that no matter how much you hate the neck wear. Now stop fiddling with it, I think your companion has arrived.â
The Doctor, named so after a childhood rebellion when he threatened to run away from the family and become a healer, reluctantly turned to see Jack leading over a blonde dressed in a dark blue dress that matched the embroidery on his vest. The dress was simple but elegant, allowing room for movement, and the scarf that heralded her as a member of the inventorâs guild was lopsided, as if she had been toying with it. He forced a smile when Jack escorted her closer. âLady Rose. A pleasure to meet you.â
Rose smiled slightly. âYour majesty. I want to warn you in advance that I have to leave early. I have a former engagement that Iâve been planning for ten years.â
He blinked, but offered her his arm. âIf you insist.â
The trumpets sounded out the fanfare, and he and Rose both grimaced at the noise. It was yet another tradition that he found tiresome, stuck in the past with a world changing rapidly around them.
Rose moved gracefully to the ballroom floor, since they had the first dance. âSo, Miss Tyler,â he asked as the song started. âWhat is it that you do?â
âBesides babysit my brother free of charge?â She grinned. âI help my father out at his guild. Iâm currently in team management.â
The Doctor blinked, finding his initial opinions of her shifting. âWhatâs that about, then?â
She shrugged. âMake sure everyone is on time with their projects, help out if needed, be a liason between the groups and the higher management. Sounds like thereâs a lot of paperwork, but I actually get to help out on the projects a lot.â
âYour fatherâs guild is one of the best in the country,â he grinned. âAnd Iâm sure that is partly thanks to you.â
Rose grinned. âWell, I help where I can. So what about you, Sire? What are your hobbies?â
He considered. âStar gazing, travelling, basically anything that gets me out of the castle,â he admitted. âMany people disapprove of how hands-on my reign has been, but theyâre all old fogies who need to get their heads out of the sand.â
âTell me about it,â she grumbled. âOne matron dared to suggest that I wear a veil, as proper of a woman of my standing.â Rose tossed her head defiantly. âThat accessory went out of style in all the neighboring countries at least a century ago, and donât get me started on all the regulations Iâve had to find loop holes to in order to get some of the projects approved. Gallifrey is too mired in tradition in my opinon. Er, no offense,â she added, hastily.
The Doctor stared at her in astonishment, then beamed. âRose Tyler, I think youâre exactly what Iâm looking for,â He exclaimed.
âI am?â
âIâve been looking for a consultant to get rid of some of the old laws, and you, my dear, are the perfect candidate. Want to help me Operation Bad Wolf?â
She grinned. âOn one condition.â
âYes?â
âYou join me in watching the Medusa Cascade tonight.â
He laughed, delighted. âThe meteor shower? I would be honored. I was planning on having a peek at it myself.â
They stopped dancing as the song came to an end. âWell, your majesty,â Rose said, her tongue peeking out between her teeth, âI accept your generous proposal.â
TenToo/Rose || ohmyfuckinghellshitfuhhhh || 300 words
Her favorite things about him could fill ten editions of the Encyclopedia Britannica, if it existed here. She loves the way he carefully blows on his tea every morning, his human tongue sensitive in different ways than when he was Time Lord (more sensitive to temperature and to certain tastes heâd informed her from between her thighs, pausing for a monologue that drove her nearly as spare as his tongue had been driving her mad mere moments before). She loves how he talks to her little brother like heâs a miniature adult. She loves the way he crouches down as Tony babbles at him, regarding him as seriously as any diplomat heâs had to meet since he landed in Peteâs World with her. She loves the way he talks, period, loves that perhaps best of all â the way he chooses his words so exquisitely carefully. How he explains things thoroughly and with relish, and how he tells her he loves her without tripping over the words.
But he doesnât curse. Of all the words available to him, the dirty words are the ones he avoids. Instead he plays with synonyms, with upstanding words in the place of the vulgar. So when he grunts in her ear, his voice straining and hoarse as he buries himself as deep inside her as he can, âohmyfuckinghellshitfuhhhhâ as he comes, it sends thrills and chills down her spine. She clamps her knees around his hips, stilling herself on him as she braces her hands on his chest, and grins that tongue-touched smile she knows he loves so much.
âWhatâs that?â
Heâd look annoyed if he could, but he canât, can just smile up at her, sated. It lulls her enough that he catches her off guard when he flips them.
âI said your turn.â

Just beautiful! More please??
Rose spent a long time looking around their flat, touching things and putting them back in exactly the same spot. She ran her fingers over the titles of the books in the bookshelf and looked intently at all their framed pictures. John stood near the entrance to the hall, nervously shifting from foot to foot. She thought he probably wanted to ask if she remembered any of it, but didnât want to push.
âIt⌠feels like I should know these things,â she said, honestly. âButâŚâ She scratched her head, frowning. âIâm not sure.â
âItâs okay,â he said, but he didnât quite meet her eyes. âThey said anything could trigger it. We just have to wait. Feel like dinner?â
The ordered chinese. He told her not to get the sweet and sour pork. She did anyway, and regretted it. They laughed about it as she tossed it in the bin, and something lightened in the area around her heart. They watched the news until she started yawning and then he offered to sleep out on the sofa. She didnât even hesitate, she just took his hand and headed for the hallway where, she assumed, sheâd find their bedroom.

28: Knocking on the wrong door
Rose was nearly asleep when a soft noiseawoke her. She was almost sure sheâd dreamt it, until she heard it again: asoft rapping against her door. She groaned as she rolled out of bed, wonderingwho the hell would make a house call at two in the morning.
âComing,â she called, looking around her disheveled room forher dressing gown.
She finally spotted it in a crumpledheap at the foot of her bed, and she donned it, cinching the sash as shetrotted to the front door.
In retrospect, she probably should havelooked through the peephole before swinging the door wide open. It couldâvebeen an axe-wielding murder, for all she knew, but she was too concerned thatsomeone was knocking on her door in the dead of night. She thought immediatelyof her mother, alone on the council estate, and she fervently hoped it wasnâtthe police coming to deliver bad news.
It was not the police. Instead, it was a complete and utterstranger (not wielding an axe, thankfully). He was a rather handsome bloke, ifRose was being completely honest with herself. Not conventionally attractive, though; his ears and nose were too big for his face, and he was a bit gangly and woreclothes that were a size too big for him. But his eyes were sharp and piercing, and filled with such sadness and desolation. The utter heartbreak reflecting throughthose blue eyes made Roseâs heart clench in sympathy, even though she had noclue who this man was.
He looked equally surprised to see her.His face closed off into a stony mask, his expression unreadable, as he said, âWhatâreyou doing here?â
Rose balked, and her temper flared. Adrunkard, probably, thinking this was his own flat.
âI live here,â she replied coolly.
âWell, what do you do that for?â
âBecause I do,â she said exasperatedly, internally groaning. A stubborn drunkard, then.
The Doctor looked down at his feet as hemumbled, âMustâve got the wrong flat.â
His eyes flitted up to her door number, and his eyebrows scrunched in confusion.
âThere used to be a woman that livedhere,â he said. âSarah Jane. Middle aged, brown hair.â
Rose shook her head but said, âWell, Ijust moved in a few months ago.â
He nodded, his cheeks flushing pink.
âRight,â he said gruffly. âSorry âboutwaking you. Iâll just be off.â
For just a moment, his expression openedup again and Rose caught a glimpse of the pain sheâd seen earlier. This blokemust really be in a bad spot to come knocking on her door (well, this supposedSarah Janeâs door) in the wee hours of the morning.
Rose was already wide awake again, andshe desperately wanted to help this man if she could.
âWell, seeing as youâre already here, want to come in for tea?â she asked as the man made to move away.
He looked at her as though sheâd grown asecond head.
âPretty young woman like yourself, just going to invite this mangy old man into your flat at two in the morning?âhe asked, making her feel like she was being chided like a child.
Rose shrugged and said, âIf youâd wantedto hurt me, youâdâve done so already.â
She stood back and opened the door ininvitation. He hesitated for just a moment before heaving a great sigh andfollowing her into her flat.
She fixed up their tea in silence, onlyspeaking to ask him how he took it. Two spoonfuls of sugar later, she handedhim a steaming mug and ushered him to the kitchen table.
They continued to sitin silence until she said, âMy nameâs Rose, by the way.â
âJohn Smith,â he said gruffly. âBut myfriends call me the Doctor.â
âThe Doctor?â she asked skeptically. âRight.Okay. So then, Doctor, what brings you to my flat at this hour?â
His expression pinched in sorrow before hesmoothed it back into a neutral mask.
âJust wanted to visit a friend,â hereplied.
âAt two in the morning?â Rose asked. âOddhour for a house call, innit?â
The Doctor shrugged and raised his mugto his lips, until he realized heâd already finished.
âYou donât have to tell me if you donâtwant,â Rose said hesitantly. âBut I hear talking helps.â
âAnd how do you know Iâve got somethingto talk about, eh?â he asked sharply.
Rose winced at his raised voice andshrunk back into her seat a bit. The Doctor noticed, and he slumped into hischair, looking more defeated than any human ought to look.
âSorry,â he said softly. âShouldnât betaking this out on you.â
Rose said nothing, and continued towatch this man.
âJust got home from being overseas,â hefinally said to the table, his thumb nail tracing the grooves of the wood. âBitof a tough time.â
That was an understatement, judging byhis outward demeanor. Rose desperately wanted to help this man, at leastcomfort him in some way, and so she hesitantly slid her hand towards his. Hestiffened when her palm slid over the back of his hand, but relaxed, andflipped his hand so they were palm to palm.
Rose suppressed a shudder as her fingerstwined through his. His hand was rough and calloused, but warm and inviting;their hands fit together so well.
âIâm sorry,â she whispered, squeezing his fingers, hoping to offer some measure of comfort through the gesture.
He gave a nod, and started speakingquietly, staring at their clasped hands. He told her of the past two years, andhow heâd been on the front lines of a war they should never have gotteninvolved with. He told her how heâd watched so many of his friends and fellowsoldiers die, and how he had desperately wanted to join them. Fate, it seemed, hadother ideas, and he was delivered home last month with only a few broken ribsand haunting memories to show for it.
Roseâs eyes prickled with tears that shefervently tried to blink away. The desolation in his voice broke her heart, until she couldnât stand it anymore and stood up from her chair.
The Doctor blinked in surprise. Once herhand was out of his, he folded in on himself and mumbled, âRight. Sorry. Didnâtmean to lay that all on you.â
He was surprised when a pair of soft, warm arms wrapped around his shoulders. He froze for just a moment, until hereturned her embrace, clinging to her. He hadnât realized how starved he wasfor affection and interaction until he stumbled upon this beautiful woman.
They stayed like that, with Rosecrouching down and the Doctor leaning up, for a long while, until her back andhis ribs protested.
âI am so sorry,â she whispered.
He nodded gruffly and stood, burrowinghis hands into the pockets of his battered leather jacket.
âI should go,â he said to his boots. âThankyou, Rose.â
She watched him walk to the front of herflat, loathe to see him leave. Just as he opened the front door, she caught upwith him, a piece of paper in hand.
âHere,â she said, thrusting it at him. âItâsgot my mobile number. Call me sometime, if you need to talk. And, well, I guessyou know where I live now. You can come by at any time.â
The Doctor looked from the paper to Rosea few times, until a slow smile spread across his lips. Blimey, if she thoughthe was gorgeous before, he was absolutely breathtaking now. Her heart stutteredin her chest as she returned the smile, before watching him walk down thestairs of her building and disappear into the night.
send me a doctor x rose pairing and a prompt
Prompt from scullywolf: Iâd like to see you write some more S1 Team TARDIS, maybe when they went to Woman Wept?
At first, heâd thought that having Jack along might be a fantastic idea. He could use a distraction to keep his mind away from inappropriate thoughts of Rose Tyler, and Jack was certainly capable of making himself known.
However, the Doctor quickly realized his plan had backfired.
It wasnât that he was jealous of the attention Rose gave the questionable Captain, of course; he was a Time Lord, above such emotions, better than some stupid ape who got all possessive when another male showed interest in his woman. Which was not to say that Rose Tyler was the Doctorâs woman. Quite the opposite, in fact, which was yet another reason the Doctor wasnât jealous.
He was, though, worried. Yes, worried was the appropriate word.
Rose was young, so much younger than the Doctor himself. He knew well she could handle herself when it came to the sorts of people they encountered on their travels. Honestly, he quite enjoyed watching her handle herself in those situations. He worried, though, about whether she was experienced enough to handle an intergalactic flirt of Jack Harknessâs caliber.
The Doctorâs eyes narrowed as he studied the duoâs body language when they returned to the console room.

*unbetad, sorry for the awful title đ
âYou know you have to actually lift the glass to your lips to drink the vodka.â
Emma lifted her gaze from the glass of icy spirit and smiled.
âFunnily enough I had heard that before, Jones.â
âAnd here I was thinking that I had stumbled upon something revelatory.â
He gestured to the seat beside her and she nodded, waiting until he ordered a drink.
It was Tuesday and The Rabbit Hole sports bar was just about as empty as she had ever seen it. She was glad of it - the last thing she needed now was to deal with a bunch of drunks even if she really wanted to get drunk herself.
His order came, alongside another vodka for her, and he paid with a crisp ten pound note before settling into the stool beside her.
âSo, Swan, what brings you to Wimbledonâs only American sports bar tonight?â
He grinned, his smile bright despite how tired he looked.
âI could ask you the same,â she replied, nodding at what remained of his business attire - tie askew and shirt sleeves pushed up.
âI asked first,â he quipped, âBut since you must know today I got a new job and I thought it appropriate to celebrate.â
âThe one at Grahamâs company?â
He nodded. âYep, you are looking at the new deputy marketing manager for Mills Media.â
Emma smiled. She knew how much Killian had wanted a promotion and it just wasnât happening in his current position. At least someone had good news that day.
âThatâs great,â she sighed softly, staring longingly into her vodka, before quickly adding, âMy visa renewal was declined today.â
âDeclined?â

You say tomato...
For @ripplestitchskein because she suggested it would be worth watching and the stupid idea wouldnât let me go.
Unbeta-ed, unrealistic and probably unbelievable I actually did it. But its the first finished thing in a long time so thereâs that.
Bad pun warning. Just so you know.
âKillian?â
She spoke in almost a whisper so as not to startle him, so intent on whatever was on the table in front of him that he seemed not to notice her arrival. Even as she slid into the booth opposite him, he barely looked up from the crisp, white plate that held his attention so thoroughly.
âWhatâve you got there?â she asked and he raised his face to hers, eyes filled with the warmth and affection she was used to finding there - but yet there was something else. Before she could see what had captured him, he scooped a final morsel from his plate and into his mouth, tongue darting out across his lips to make sure he had devoured every taste. He gestured briefly to Granny, who stood behind the counter with an amused grin and then turned back to Emma.
âThe culinary wonders of this realm sometimes fail to delight me, Swan,â he said, leaning back into his seat with a contented sigh, âbut I believe I have finally made a gastronomic discovery of epic proportions. Firm skinned, yet soft with succulent innards that are beyond description. The viscosity is faultless, the perfect texture to please the palate.â
At this, he seemed to lose himself for a moment in reminiscing, his eyes glazing slightly as his lips and tongue worked together as if he could relive the gourmet experience by physical recollection alone.
Emma had eaten at Grannyâs. As Killian tripped down whatever epicurean memory lane he was on, she scoured the menu thoroughly, assuming something new must have made its way into its pages.
She was met with the same old onion rings.
Apparently recovered from his food-induced trance, Killian leaned forward again, his face alight with excitement. âAnd the taste, love,â he sighed, eyes darting towards the kitchen as a server backed through the swinging door, âthe taste! Indescribable sweetness with a piquant aftertaste that has left my senses reeling.â

I hope itâs not to long for the drabble promptâŚApologies if it is- I had no idea so I just went with it. Honestly, I have no explanation for this fic. It just happened, itâs ridiculous beyond the telling of it, and it also somehow has a tiny bit of sap. I have no excuse for this lunacy. SoooooâŚ.sorry? Also apologies for total hijacking of the fun word âgruntlingâ. ~Hides behind the wall~
Also on AO3.
âAh, a human? I am a great scholar of Earth culture.â
Rose smiled in what she hoped was a polite manner. She wished the Doctor would hurry up with his shopping because this blue alien (a Polekian, the Doctor had said) had spotted her waiting and glommed on like Moliuan superglue.
âYour rustic species fascinates me,â he went on, âIâve long since mastered your primitive language.â
Rude git.
She tried not to roll her eyes. âWhich one?â
âI beg your pardon?â the Polekian blinked.
âWhich language?â She asked, trying to sound polite. âThereâs thousands of languages on earth.â
âI⌠had notâŚer, I am fluent in the general earth dialect.â

Nine/Rose, hospital, amnesia
She woke up feeling groggy, layers of sleep pushing and pushing her down. It was several tries before she was able to really open her eyes. She blinked, looking at the unfamiliar bed and room she was in. Then she noticed the lead going from her arm to a bag of fluids hanging from a pole next to the bed. Then she realized there was a heart monitor on her index finger, the steady beeping in the room an echo of her internal muscleâs function.âWhere am I?â she said, or rather, tried to say. Her voice was scratchy from disuse.A sharp intake of breath to her left drew her attention and she looked over to see a man with close-cropped dark hair sitting up in a chair, his blue eyes full of relief and amazement. âYouâre awake!â he said, squeezing her hand and she realized then that heâd been holding it.The joy in his expression crumbled at her next question. âWho are you?âHis left hand was shaking as he scrubbed it across his face in shock. The movement made the light catch on the gold ring on his finger. Automatically, her eyes dropped to the hand that he was holding. A matching set adorned her fourth finger.âOh, no.â
