BUBBLEGUM AND SWEETS. That’s a good thing, a comfort, something people look for. But Harry’s associations were more along the lines of GUM STUCK IN HAIR, sweets smuggled away from Dudley’s grabbing hands and shoved into her mouth, never really savoured as much as they should have been. It’s been a while since Dudley has made his way into Harry’s stash; it would make more sense for her to thing of the twins’ Ton-Tongue Toffees, or the pleasantly uncomfortable feeling of having eaten too many Chocolate Frogs, but all it brings back is a nausea that comes from hiding a secret that she knew would get her into trouble.

So the compliment - it’s supposed to be a COMPLIMENT, Potter - takes a couple of moments to stick, and even then, it does it’s best to grab hold to a surface that repels anything that doesn’t fit with her own perception of herself. It’s easier to focus on Astoria, and as she brings the subject around to her, Harry can’t help but be a little thankful for the opening.

“ Who says you’re NOT? ” There’s a pause as Harry considers how to phrase her words. “ Strength isn’t always something so obvious, and your kindness shows in your thoughts just as much as your actions. ”

Letting the chair roll a little to let her out from under her desk, JJ handed Shane the file. “ Round table via the coffee machine? ”

Harry is a trans girl, and while she has had a lot of difficulty and body disphoria, she has known this since she was at school with Dudley. It took her a while to settle on her name, and it was actually in her third year at Hogwarts that she came across some family history ( thank you, Hermione, for encouraging the library time and pushing Harry to look further ), where she saw Henry ‘Harry’ Potter, and things finally clicked into place for her. 

Madame Pomfrey helped Harry thought transitioning, though it took Harry until the end of the first year to mention her gender identity to the school nurse, so they couldn’t begin the right research, discussions and, eventually potions, until school reconvened after the summer.

I will write a more detailed headcanon later, with more information about her life.
