While Jarod wasn’t sure about the answer to the question, he had wondered about that before himself since he had witnessed lots of people getting confused about chips. “Because...well...why do we call fries even fries? I guess if we would call them fries, we wouldn’t call anything chips.”

“It’s nearly a mile all together. I know it’s not that far, but still, it’s cold.” He said shrugging. “I could come with you if you’d prefer. I could do with some food right now.” He suggested. He knew it sounded odd but to be honest he hasn’t had human interaction in some time.

“As someone who doesn’t even own a car I’m used to having to walk a lot. Sure, there is public transport, but sometimes that’s too crowded for me.” Mitch paused. “You know what? Fine, you can take me there.” He quickly texted his roommate to tell him to check up on him later, just in case.

“The next one? Have you already been to a few which were not up to your standards of meat?” He asked smiling, thinking about where the nearest place was. “Just down the road, take a left and about half a mile up the road is a pretty good place.” He said. “Do you want a lift? I can get my driver to give you a ride, it’s a bit of a walk. You took a turn into the deep city.” He said.

“Quite the opposite. I was at the Museum of London Docklands and I’ve heard that there was one around so I thought as well go there since I do like their food.” Mitch wasn’t sure what to think about this situation. While it sounded like the stranger was being honest, no one had ever offered to get their driver for Mitch and he usually didn’t get in the car of someone he didn’t know. “Are you serious? I mean half a mile isn’t that far.”

The night had begun smoothly enough. Zelma had managed to throw together just enough of a group to head to the bar without looking out of place. It had been nice. The kind nice that settled upon one when finally filling a long untouched gap in routine. It just hadn’t lasted. The first few had cited work in the morning as their reason to leave at the hour that any person really ought to. The other two had taken each other home; a designated driver and one of Zelma’s newer neighbours – too LIVELY to walk straight. arm in arm, feet stumbling over feet. She should have left with them. Instead, she’d opted to finish her drink. Leaving her now, only with the mostly empty glass before her and the absolute creep prattling on at her side. Sliding an unbelievably flimsy excuse between her teeth, Zelma pulled away from her seat. The first friendly face would have to do. Sidling up to a stranger at the other end of the bar, she tried her best not to look uncomfortable.

“I will pay you five pounds,–” She muttered, trying to gesture towards the man she’d left behind without catching his attention. “–to pretend that you know me and we came together. So I can shake that guy.”

Mitch has spent enough times in bars to know that there often were a lot of men who made unwanted advances towards women there. Add the alcohol and they were harder to shake off than usual. He had played the boyfriend for one of his female friends countless times before as that somehow was more effective than asking that guy to leave. Occasionally for strangers too. He didn’t mind helping them out, but it was a shame that he had to in the first place. Mitch leaned to the side to get a better look at the stranger while simultaneously leaning forward to make it less obvious what he was actually doing. “Forget the five pounds, I’ll take a drink,” he whispered into her ear. He leaned back again, hoping that it looked like the two of them were familiar with each other. “Or let me buy you a drink, that’s probably more realistic.” Mitch didn’t wait for an answer before he got the attention of the bartender. “A beer for me and she, uh, wants-” He turned towards the girl again. “What do you want?”

OUT CHESTER WALKS into the middle of Canary Wharf, One Canada Square looms over his head, inside is his offices but he needed a break from that. He pulled out a pack of Marlboro menthol cigarettes out of his suit jacket and lit it, placing it in his mouth and taking a drag of the cigarette. He saw someone he noticed. “Hey, what’re you doing around these parts?”

“Trying to find the next Gourmet Burger Kitchen.” Mitch raised his eyebrow. Something about the question bugged him and he felt like he needed to defend himself, but he bit back a comment about not being allowed to walk there despite not wearing a suit. Maybe he could avoid an argument. “You don’t happen to know where it is, do you?”

Mitch was on his way home from the library. He had an important exam coming up and it wasn’t quiet enough for him to concentrate at home ever since his roommate had gotten a girlfriend. As happy as Mitch was for him, he currently didn’t have the patience to wait until she went back home or risk them interrupting him when Mitch thought he would be home alone all day so he opted to do all studying in the library. Despite loving learning about new stuff, he was starting to feel like the information he had to remember was too much and decided to end the study session for the day. “Sorry, I don’t smoke. Though I think there’s a store around the corner where they sell lighters if you’re in need.”
