I think Matt's Multiverse is already at Stage 2 of the 4 Stages of Byler that I present today: he sees the clues, he wants to burst out smiling at what he's seeing but he's holding himself back from truly believing.
He reminds me of where I was at when I saw the van drawing framing Mike and Will. I think that was my "Stage 2 moment."
Here are the stages!
Stage 0: Denial
"Huh, Mike and Will? Of course Will loves Mike, Mike doesn't like Will THAT way."
Stage 1: Realization
"Huhh... is there more to this than I thought? What are other people saying saying about this... Hmm that's a good point, but um THAT seems like a stretch, THAT one too..."
Stage 2: Bargaining
"I think I'm going crazy. Why are there THIS many hints? Now that I see it and I can't unsee it! What is wrong with me!? I WANT TO BELIEVE it'll happen, but Netflix probably doesn't go through with it on such a huge show."
Stage 3: Crazy Together
"I LOVE THIS AND I THINK IT WILL HAPPEN! It's a more powerful story, and it's the only explanation for all these details and the only satisfying end to their character arcs. It's either endgame or the most elaborate queerbait ever."
Stage 4: Obsession
"The Duffers CAN'T chicken out. This is a show about nerds and outcasts after all..."
Consuming Byler content every free moment. Wanting to talk to everyone, even people you hardly know, about why Byler should be endgame. Wanting to throttle people who only "like" the show or "like" Byler: "WHY AREN'T YOU AS EXCITED ABOUT THIS AS I AM!!?"
