idk who actually follows me actively on here but HEY Y’ALL i’m raising money to do nerdy professional things
here’s a quick nerd blast that i just wrote up for another friend about this endeavor:
“i'm super thrilled to go not only because DC is the premier location for the archival field, but also because this year's conference will feature a lot of panels and workshops that deal with very important contemporary archival issues such as ethical and proper representation of marginalized and underrepresented communities. what i've taken out of my grad program so far is that, as an archivist, i have the potential to uplift these communities and to share and preserve histories that we otherwise would not have even learned about in school. there's a term that i learned in class called "symbolic annihilation"--when we don't find ourselves, our histories, and our identities, in the archives, we are symbolically annihilated. if i can attend this conference, i could maybe learn how to prevent the symbolic annihilation of different communities.”
TL;DR i’m super into the work that i’m doing and i want to continue to grow. if you could help send me to this conference, i could possibly get a lot of growing done for myself and for the communities that i intend on helping along the way.
