Okay so I definitely felt like that for a bit after brain surgery. I could emulate the effects of drugs I was familiar with (acid, md, pot)
But I was also on some pretty hardcore drugs (coming off anesthesia, on opiods) then and I haven't been able to since so
..
So the sideways mv is the new night changes
Cool co cool cool
It actually took a while into the first episode of How To Get To Heaven from Belfast for me to understand the friendship the main 3 have. At first, I assumed all 4 women had fallen out of touch as adults, and that Greta had just kept in touch the least. But I turned out to be wrong in both directions! Greta was, like, basically disappeared, and Robyn, Saoirse, and Dara had stayed tight the whole time!
idk if the way they were introduced was meant to give that impression? For me, it evoked a trope I feel like I've seen a lot (i think mostly in American comedies?) where high school friends have grown apart and the story emphasizes how different they have become, and how little they feel they have in common now, implying they're no longer compatible as friends.
But Saoirse, Dara, and Robyn have stayed close despite building very different lives for themselves! 💕 They honestly don't understand each other very well in some ways, but they don't let that affect how much they care about each other! Like, maybe I'm jaded, or uncultured, but it feels rare and refreshing to see fictional adults (especially women) be friends in such a solid and genuine way.
I think my favorite scene so far, for that specific feeling, was when the three of them are sitting in Robyn's house and arguing with her husband! 😄 At first we just see and hear Robyn and Jim, but then the other two join in, politely and firmly backing Robyn up. It's been established that the three women live very different lives, have their own worlds, and this is Robyn's world– but it doesn't matter! Dara and Saoirse are there, unapologetic, taking up space, making themselves comfortable. Robyn even corrects Jim when she feels he's being disrespectful to her girls, making her home environment bend to accommodate them.
(I don't remember the exact exchange rn, I think he may not even have actually been being rude? But I think my point stands either way!) (As an advocate for child rights I do NOT think Robyn is a good mother, but she is a really good character and a pretty good friend! Also she's, like, a very average and normal mother imo? Lacking in a way that is very common.)
Dara can tell Robyn's highlights are less than a day old. Saoirse and Robyn are completely caught up on Dara's lesbian drama. Robyn and Dara are going to wear matching frocks in Saoirse's wedding, even though she clearly did not ask them to be bridesmaids and isn't really interested in planning the wedding. Robyn knows how many months of the year Saoirse spends in either London or Belfast.
They argue and criticize and judge each other, but none of that strikes deep enough to hit the core of their friendship. Dara is a practicing Catholic while the other two seem to be atheists. Robyn is particular about her appearance in a way that the other two completely clash with. Saorise is a snob who looks down on exactly the kind of people her best friends are. ("then I'd be someone who lives in Belfast") They've got different goals and values.
And none of it matters!! None of it affects how important they are to each other, or how much they fundamentally trust and respect each other. (I specify fundamentally, because, superficially, there is a lot of distrust and disrespect happening!)
idk, I guess I hadn't realized how much I'd internalized the idea that we can only be close with people we're more similar to than not? And I appreciate this story for asserting otherwise.
One of my favourite moments in How To Get To Heaven From Belfast was actually at the nursing home, with Dara and Robyn. It’s not a super major moment or a particularly dramatic one when compared to a lot of other bits in the series but it’s so good for Robyn’s character.
Throughout the series we get a lot of jokes about her questionable parenting (+ relationship) choices because y’know. It’s a comedy. But in the nursing home scene, Robyn, who has also been least sympathetic to Greta throughout both sees through that old woman’s bullshit immediately and gives her a piece of her mind. It’s probably her most serious moment in the show.
Idk. Good scene. Good moment. I like that this is her most disgusted moment, when she’s talking to another mother who fucked up her kid so badly it caused the whole situation. I like that despite getting into multiple car crashes, accusing her husband of having an affair and all the various other shit she does in the series we’re shown why kids might feel safe around her. Shoutout Robyn.
You can't compete with my boyfriend
He's got 27 tattoos
I'd rather be high in California than dancing at a club in Berlin
(not having been to either of these places)
So I realise why she had to switch tacks with Sunrise on the Reaping and ooh the Raven of it all, the sweet summer boy Haymitch of it all, the goose and the commons of it all. but but
A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is my favourite book in the series. More on Tigris pleeease.
Fanfic is a great way to practice self-indulgence while writing. It doesn’t even have to be good, it just exists purely for your pleasure, be a little freak about it. Worry about quality and what other people think when it comes to works you intend to publish in a formal setting

original image: four panel comic titled "Proximity" by @JNYMFG (op). Each is numbered in the corner, counting from 3 down to 0.
Panel #3 is yellow-toned, with an over-the-shoulder shot of a cheerful man reading the newspaper headline MORE WAR and thinking: "How awful... but I have my own problems!" Panel #2 is orange-toned, showing a distraught woman reading the same headline, and thinking: "But my husband has family there!" Panel #1 is red-toned, showing a pensive man reading the same headline, and thinking: "If I'd stayed, maybe I could have saved them." Panel #0 is entirely blacked out.
reblog image: photo of poem titled The Diameter of the Bomb. Poem reads:
The diameter of the bomb was thirty centimeters and the diameter of its effective range - about seven meters. And in it four dead and eleven wounded. And around them in a greater circle of pain and time are scattered two hospitals and one cemetery. But the young woman who was buried where she came from over a hundred kilometers away enlarges the circle greatly. And the lone man who weeps over her death in a far corner of a distant country includes the whole world in the circle. And I won't speak at all about the crying of orphans that reaches to the seat of God and from there onward, making the circle without end and without God.

the absolute concept of putting broken bones and dark to light after each other on the album. 12 dead 27 injured
Thiss!!
Reminds me of the whiplash from Matilda to Cinema
The violins in dark to light. Hello??!
Uff I'm so glad harry hasn't jumped on this dumb annoying visualizer train
Okay here's my very confused honest review upon first listen if how did I get here
I love love love how it sounds how he sounds
I giggled. I kicked my legs into the air
I got emotional during dark to light
I notice his voice now clearly in some of the lyricism
Which (sorry)
Compared to the specificity of Fitf and walls
Seems distant and weaker.
