I know that by looking at my username and my profile pic you'd assume that Keith is my favorite character but in reality it's Lance. He's always been the one character from any piece of media that I've consumed that I don't play around. I can see so much of myself in Lance that it pains me every time that I think about his canon ending.
Lance has been shown from the beginning of the show to be such a passionate, hardworking, a bit of a goofball (gotta give them that one) and someone so caring and determined to do good.
He's such a selfless guy, he's always putting everyone else's safety before himself. Some examples: Choosing to save Shiro even if it got him in trouble, saving Coran from an explosion after knowing him for a few days or saving Allura even if it got him killed (I'm never getting over that)
It really annoys me how in the show he's treated as the "dumb one" when he's anything but. That guy got in in what I can assume was a very hard school to get into. Not to mention that the moment Keith got kicked out, Lance was the one that took his spot in the fighter class. Out of everyone in the program: Lance took the spot. Which means the only reason he wasn't a fighter pilot before that was only because there weren't enough spots. (Also like to point out that literally all five paladins are nerds seeing as they all were students at the Garrison. Pidge and Hunk might be the nerdiest but they're all nerd enough to get in that school)
You cannot tell me that the guy who told Hunk "you know, for someone in a space exploration program, you don't have much of a sense of adventure" while sneaking out of school, the guy who didn't even hesitate before running towards an alien spaceship, the guy who hopped on a hover bike with his self declared rival to escape his teachers, the guy who took one look at robot blue lion and just claimed in, the guy who defeated a galra cruiser after only five minutes of piloting said robot blue lion (all by himself may I add), the guy who didn't think twice before going through a wormhole, you cannot tell me that that guy wanted just a simple life in a farm by the end of the show.
A bit of a break from space I understand, but to become a full time farmer? Hell no. He should've become a teacher at the garrison to train the next generation of pilots and I will die on that hill.
He was one of only two people to pilot more than one lion, he unlocked the most bayard forms out of everyone: the blue laser gun, the red laser gun which if you pay close attention you will see that's not the same one, the rifle and Alfor's sword. Also, after the initial shock of the red lion's controls wore of he adapted incredibly quickly just like he did with blue in the first episode.
He's an incredibly skill pilot, great with social situations, he easily adapts to situations, and he's way smarter than anyone give him credit for.
He put his own ego and wants aside for the greater of the universe when he accepted Keith as the black paladin. He never even attempted to fight the decision, he just went with it cause he values the team and wants what's best for everyone in the long run, even if it means sacrificing the one thing he wants.
DreamWorks created a perfectly layered character and threw it all out the window just to make him Allura's love interest (which they also did to her when they reduced her to a love interest but that's another conversation all together)
He was done so dirty, I wish I could look Lance in the eyes and tell him how amazing he is.
This is all over the place but it's 1am and I got hit with the feels and had to write them down yk
