What do you all think of the headcanon that Mai passed away during childhood or while giving birth to Izumi?
I recently read some fanfics with a "death during childbirth" plot, and—to be blunt—I’m a huge fan of tragedies. I don’t know if anyone else relates to this—and the way I’m putting it might sound a bit cruel—but I love seeing my favorite characters at the center of tragic moments. So, I wanted to ask fellow Maiko fans: has anyone else ever considered the scenario where Mai passes away much earlier than her husband, leaving behind a very young daughter? I just *love* stories like that, but so far, there are only a few where Mai dies in childbirth; I’d really like to see more stories where she passes away while Izumi is still a young child. (Putting it that way makes me sound a bit sadistic... Please don’t get me wrong—I love it when the characters stay alive and happy, too!)
