I wrote a very strange “poem” about wishing for a mate on the farm that was miraculously published in a journal that is very cool and I am so chuffed about it I could and did scream. Any and all birds seeking a pair bond should hollaaaaaaa

set up a little milk challenge for gabi & diana: 4 goats (two saanens + 2 nubians) and 8 cups. could they match the cups with the same goat’s milk? could they group the saanens and the nubians together? gabi ended up doing pretty gangbusters, actually, somewhat carrying the group despite diana’s repeated supertaster bragging earlier in the month ;) just happy to have some good old-fashioned fun in the parlour with these two

on a related note, i am desperate to try the famed dwarf nubian goat’s milk! is it as decadent as they say????

the kids are all learning to browse alongside their mamas and aunties--learning being operative as many times they merely ending up running their little teeth helplessly along a few too-large leaves before plopping back down into the dirt then rearing right back up again. still, it’s a joy to watch: to see a body progress, watch it grow each day into feeding itself, protecting itself. not to mention it’s also pretty much the cutest thing ever ? ?

you don’t have to speak goat to know that Monet done been ready for these boys to grow up and give her teats a rest. the human crew’s doing our part with some spa-day udder balm in the mornings! mama-ing ain’t easy but she makes it look good (that alpine/nubian mix made for the most elegant ears on the farm, I always say).
