Little dead people

Yes, indeed I wrote a short story, which was a nice change honestly. And I’m sharing it here :P

• About: a young man who meets a little girl who helps him understand the strangeness of the world, his regrets, and there’s also some grieving for his boyfriend involved.

• Genres: historical, paranormal, horror (???), a bit of romance, Alice in Wonderland retelling

• Warnings: character deaths, memory loss

I was standing by an old Victorian house, waiting for nothing. The world shuffled around me, in a way drained of colour and yet more colourful than before, time moving too slowly and yet way too fast. Polka dot dresses and pale shirts hung from clothing racks with drops of water slipping down them, icecream melted down cones and children’s hands, summer’s last blossoms were squashed beneath people’s shoes…

And when I turned, I saw her beside me: a little bit too small for her age, a little bit too quiet, a little bit too sad-looking, a little bit too much like a photograph. Near her feet flew a butterfly with white wings.

‘Hello there, sir’, she whispered, her eyes wide with timid curiosity, her hands curled up in the pockets of a coat too big for her.
