âI thought you would.â She returned the smile, happy that the little gift would bring some joy. âMusic is a powerful thing. Itâs what helped me get some of my memories back.â She offered with a small shrug. Sure it was only little glimpses and flashes of memories, but it was something. âHowâve you been?â She asked as casually as she could, trying to pretend that wasnât the real reason she had checked up on him.
Bucky appreciated it, thinking that it was a sweet gesture if nothing else. He hoped that it might jog something in his head, even if there wasnât the highest hopes. âYeah? Iâm glad itâs helped.â He comments, sure it was at least a less jarring way to bring up a memory. âIâve been alright. Gettinâ by.â He answers, âYou?â

And there it was again. Shilo had to fight back an eye roll at how stubborn he could be. âJust because you can handle it doesnât mean you have to do it alone.â She chided him gently. âYouâre not the only one who still sleeps on the floor. I still get nightmares too.â She lowered her voice a tad, her eyes instinctively darting around to make sure they werenât being listened to.
Bucky gives the tiniest furrow of eyebrows at the gentle reminder, knowing she was right, but it still didnât feel like something that other people should shoulder. He canât help but offer a sympathetic glance along with the lowered words, frown tipping the side of lips. âIâ I do appreciate the concern. Itâs just, I donât think Iâm ready to share.â He gives.Â
She offered a half smile, knowing he was being as honest as he could be. Shilo understood that it was hard to talk about. Even more than five years after her escape it was still tough to put into words. âWell, when you are, you know where to find me.â She bit her lip, hesitating briefly before finally spitting it out.
âIs it okay if I share with you? Itâs okay if itâs too much for you, I donât wanna be a burden, but I canât talk to that shrink they assigned me. Sheâs awful.â Her sentences were sort of rushed together out of nerves. She didnât want to be a source of added stress for him, but she felt like if she didnât at least try to talk about it she would explode. He was the only one she felt she could really trust. âAnd itâs so weird trying to talk to anybody, really. I could be their grandmother, but they donât have a clue because I look like them. And forget dating. Sometimes it feels like dealing with children.â She shook her head and sighed, eyes fixed down.
