Yes, their actual weapon is a dragon skull-like blaster, which at first looks like a shield. Meanwhile, the lance, which is supposed to be used for attacking, is actually used for defending. It’s a trick.

Funfact friday:

Though most of legendaries are genderless and use gender-neutral pronouns, many of them lean towards either genders - in behavior, appearance and such. 

So far, here is the list telling which genderless god is feminine, masculine or non-binary:

- Masculine: Articuno, Mew, Suicune, Raikou, Ho-oh, Lugia, Regi trio, Kyogre, Rayquaza, Giratina, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Cobalion, Terrakion, Tao Trio, Xerneas, Yveltal, Zygarde, Diancie, Solgaleo, Tapu Koko, 

- Feminine: Zapdos, Moltres, Entei, Lake Trio, Virizion, Keldeo, Meloetta, Hoopa, Lunala, Tapu Lele, Magearna, Marshadow.

- Non-binary: Celebi, Groudon, Jirachi,

The genderless gods that are not in the list are not developed yet.

All of them use gender-neutral pronouns. They/them for big gods and one/one for ones with kid or teenager appearance. Some exceptions:

- Suicune and Raikou can go by he/him while Entei can go by she/her. They used to be normal gijinka with genders so it’s okay to use those pronoun to them.

- Keldeo and Lunala goes by she/her while Solgaleo uses he/him. No other.

It’s quite odd but I really like to think about a close bond between Darkrai and Shaymin - not as romantic lovers but more like best friends, or may be, platonic love. A fearsome pokemon representing nightmares which people hate and scare a lot, with a smol, cute one, can’t it be the best combo? XD 

When I’ve just become a pokémon fan, I had a fanfiction idea about a small adventure of Darkrai and Shaymin. “Darkai is not bad. To show that, I will make it a caring, gentle guy despite of that scary look” - I thought, and wrote a story in which the god of nightmares helped that small fellow. It was 3-4 years ago and I still really like it. I started to have an interest on Darkrai-Shaymin relationship ever since.

“Badass and child”/”Little guy, big buddy” is one of my most favorite tropes XD.

Darkrai | They/them

The black paladin, associated with new moon and nightmares. Mortals think of Darkrai as the representation of bad luck and darkness, but their role as a god is actually much more important than that, which very few people know. Even other deities are hardly aware of it.

Darkai is quite isolated and doesn’t talk much. Though, they are close with Shaymin, as they became friends after a sort of incident. Shaymin often visits NewMoon island to clean Darkrai’s den and bring nice, smol presents.

Shaymin is the deity of gratitude and sincerity; the patron of mountainous meadows and shepherds. 

It can dissolve toxins in the air to instantly transform ruined land into a lush field of flowers. (Pokémon Pearl pokedex entry)
