You guys I just found out about this guy who made 3D printable files for adapters for game controllers to allow them to be used one handed! It’s so clever and easy and accessible, unlike other adaptive controllers. It just snaps onto a regular controller. The way the stick is controlled is damn genius. So much easier than trying to use your feet like other systems.
A friend is using one due to a stroke and as someone with problems from arthritis, this is so great to see, in case I get to the point I really can’t use my right hand.
Please share and give this guy some love, cause this is awesome.
"there is no ethical consumption under capitalism" only applies on matters of necessity.
You need a phone or access to a computer to get a job, but phones and computers are made in foreign sweatshops.
You need clothes to be a participant in society, but affordable clothing is made in the most abusive factories on earth.
You need a place to live, but landlords own the homes and you can't afford a mortgage.
You don't need to play a game, so when it comes to gaming, where you draw the line is what you are morally okay with. Do you support gambling mechanics that manipulate people (gotcha/loot boxes)? Do you support toxic working environments (Activision Blizzard)? Do you support JK Rowling's beliefs and actions? You decide for yourself, but if the answer is yes, you don't get to decide for your trans friends that you have done nothing wrong.
Sorry.

Don’t get your sex ed from fanfiction!
Get it from
Scarleteen
Not even joking, y'all, Scarleteen is an amazing resource that deserves attention and (if you've got the cash for it) donations so they can keep providing thorough education about sex, consent, relationships, etc to folks of all ages who need it.
@sage-derby Yes!!!
Here’s a rundown of their general policy, from literally the first article I clicked on just now:
As you might be getting from that, they’re pretty intersex inclusive, too. Here’s a sample of something that’s a little more directly about sex-specific stuff in case you’re thinking “well but they said that was just about pleasure tho”:
They have a lot of sections on their site, but number two is Gender:
“That’s probably just like hetero gender dynamics stuff tho...” Nay nay! Here’s a few of the articles from the first page of their “Gender” section:
Scarleteen was a huge help to me as a trans person. They have a live chat that has sex-ed type folks giving real-time answers, and even just the staff+volunteers who happened to be attending to the live chat were able to help me with weird niche trans problems - a decade ago, when trans people, it seemed, damn near didn’t exist. They are EFFING AWESOME and want to help you!!!!
In addition to LGBTQ+ positivity...
They have a disabled section with stuff for chronic pain. There was a link about navigating consent with non-verbal partners. This is an awesome resource, I've never felt so included.
Thank you for introducing me to it!
As a parent this is an invaluable resource because lets be real. No matter how close you are to your parents sine things are UncomfortableTM to talk about with your them
So acknowledging that and telling my kid "You can ask me anything but if you're too embarrassed to ask me something this is a trusted source you can go to" is super important
Yeah, honestly I don’t even think it’s embarrassment as much as just... boundaries and privacy, that means teens don’t want to walk up to their parents like, “Dad, what should I keep in mind if I want to give oral sex to my partner?”
Sexuality is one of those areas where kids should be developing the ability to figure out their own tastes and preferences beyond what their parents have defined for them. it’s also part of them building relationships outside the family home, and generally learning to operate autonomously. It’s great if kids have a good base of support to fall back on, but honestly it’s healthier for parents and caregivers to say, “I’m going to give you the tools and resources you need to explore this on your own, so you can practice independence, though you can come to me any time you want.”
Like, this whole process of forcing kids to rely 100% on their parents for knowledge about how their bodies work and what sexual pleasure is like is in itself really unhealthy and creepy. It commonly forces kids to secretly go to sources of dubious reliability or trustworthiness, which makes them really vulnerable, especially if telling their parents about any problems they encounter means they need to confess that they broke the rules. It is so much safer to let kids know where the good resources are, and that they’re allowed to access them.
Tons more at the source!

this is so so important to me and mine, and I'm asking you to Do Something so I'll respect your time and keep it brief
in the UK, if 100k sign a a government petition it will be brought to Parliament and debated. y'all know this country is suffering from some 80s-style bigotry right now, and this is one symptom: almost 200k fuckholes have come together to force the government to discuss whether it is 'appropriate' to tell children that queer people exist. this is a big symbolic victory for them. and i am burning with fury.
please, if you're from the UK, sign this counter-petition so they can at least see how much of a minority they are. simply put, the attempt to put these bastards in their place isn't gathering enough steam. there are barely 2000 more signatures now than there were this morning (27th January 2023), and that isn't enough. i refuse to let these people feel even a moment of victory or satisfaction. please help.

tbh fuck anyone who says a single bad thing about libraries
Not content I normally reblog but libraries are super important and our world would be diminished without them.
The library was how I was able to read so many books as a kid that my parents wouldn’t have been able to afford.
Libraries are one of the only places on Earth that treats people the same no matter how much money you have. We can’t lose that.
Every public library I’ve ever known is a quiet place for teens to do homework or internet surf after school while their parents are getting off work. If they aren’t doing either, they are curled up in a chair somewhere with a stack of books and look extremely comfy.
Not too mention being a warm safe space during the day for anyone who needs it.
And it has books.
And librarians.
if you’re interested in mutual aid and aren’t sure where to start, i can’t recommend enough joining a local Buy Nothing group. in a nutshell, it’s a totally free gift economy— people give from their own abundance and ask for what they need. it’s indispensable as a recent grad household— we got the majority of our basic furniture, as well as an AC unit through the group— but what i find particularly wonderful are the ways other forms of community aid popup through the group.
i’ve seen people organize meal trains for strangers. people fleeing from domestic violence have gone from a suitcase of possessions to a fully stocked house in 48 hours. home hospices being set up with goods from six different households. cookbook lending. distribution of windfall apples and tomato harvest overabundance. grocery pickup for ill folks. people looking out for listings for others. everything from bread to baby carseats to house paint to pet food.
and much of it is done between strangers, often between people who would not recognize or identify with the term “mutual aid”. it lowers waste, goods go directly to people who need them, and it avoids the sometimes dubious morality of the thrift shop circuit. i’d really recommend it.
A guide to no cook pasta
In case you are short on time, low motivation, or in a hotel room somewhere
Put a handful of pasta shapes into the biggest mug you can find. The pasta should fill the mug halfway. Boil the kettle and pour the boiling water over the pasta, about 1 or 2cm from the top. Put a saucer or bowl on top of the mug.
After 10 minutes, check. It should be done. Drain, add toppings or just eat. I have definitely never done that.
What I eat when depressed as a vegetarian
This is a little guide to what I eat when ill, depressed or horrifically busy studying. I love making bread in my own time but what do you eat when you can’t even bring yourself to heat something in the oven?
Soup is a godsend. You are getting something warm, filling, nutritious and not too expensive. It takes like 3 minutes in the microwave and you can have toast too if you can be bothered in that time.
Actually, tinned stuff can be good depending where you are. Vegetable chilli, tagines, lots of fairly wholesome meals.
Coming from the land of Great Britain there isn’t an illness not cured with toast. Marmite on toast is my favourite as it gives you a lot of essential nutrients, and is one of the only things you can bear to eat when sick but there’s also marmalade, plain butter, chocolate spread, nut butter...
Packet noodles do get scorned as unhealthy sometimes but who cares, everyone eats them. You can buy stuff to fill them out a little bit more like frozen diced vegetables.
If you can afford it, pre prepared things, no preparation time at all. You could get all sorts of cheese, even ones that come in their own little packets. Chopped up vegetables and fruit, different breads to pick at. Prepared vegetarian protein can be interesting, it is generally going to be hummus and falafel. I’m slightly addicted to eating dry cereal.
Pasta at a stretch. You can actually microwave a single serving of pasta, add a bit of stir in sauce and you’re done unless you want cheese or additional toppings. There’s a brilliant recipe on making pasta with a kettle where I say here.
This is just based on my experiences, but I hope it is vaguely helpful.
