Do you think other cultures in Star Trek ever make fun of Starfleet for their uniforms?
Like, “Oh look boys, here comes the color wheel”
One alien: now don't be judgemental, probably humans just can't see colors very well. To them those colors are classy and muted
Random telepath: oh no, those colors are actually MORE garish to humans 😅
You laugh until the ship is on fire you can’t see a damn thing and searching for a bright red or bright yellow uniform is what saved your life!
Nice to think that someday we outgrow the nervous cringefear that caused the epidemic of drabness in the 1800s which is still going on today. Someday we will no longer feel stupid being the brightest colored bird in the forest.
Do you ever write a sentence and then realize “Nah, that’s too self aware for you” and backspace a bunch of times.
When Mysterio is the getaway driver there is never a rush.
Do u ever read a friend’s fic and it’s like holy shit how do you consider me qualified to talk to you?
No
Y’all need better self-esteem
Alright I have been enabled so I’m gonna say somethings.
Fatalistic sarcasm is a thing, however, it usually hides deep feelings of insecurity, and whether you consciously recognize this or not, it validates them. Seriously, I used to constantly make jokes about how other people’s work was better than mine, and it did nothing for my self-esteem, it was a tool to deflect from my own feelings of inferiority and it actively worked against me thinking critically about my own and other people’s work. If it was a joke I could put myself down instead of analyzing why someone’s work was better and trying to incorporate that into my own
As someone who took creative writing courses I was constantly surrounded by other brilliant people, if I hung my head in shame every time I read something as good or better than mine I never would have lifted it.
As someone who has watched a lot of writers with very good idea’s crash and burn I mean it when I say you either develop a healthy sense of respect for your own work or you stop writing.
There’s three things I really wish more people consider
1. Do you think their work is better because it’s a different style, one that you like? There’s an element to ‘the grass is greener on the other side’, I have seen people work in some amazing styles that I wished to god I could replicate, some I managed, some I never did, but there’s nothing wrong with either. having a different style Is Not the same as having a bad style, each has their own strengths and you can admire one without putting yours down
2. Knowing someone who is a better writer is a blessing and if they knew you were using their work to bring yourself down they would not be happy, mooch off that friend, analyze their work, ask them to edit your shit, as long as you’re not annoying them be shameless about it. the best thing creative writing did for me was give me the confidence to ask people to critic my work and shamelessly better each other for that sharing
3. People need to normalize being confident in their work, the quality of your work has literally nothing to do with your worth as a person, the quality of your work has nothing to do with your worth as a writer. You can write something really shitty and the only thing I’d say to you is that your trying and I respect you for that
this is true for art too btw
Things this post says:
-Advocating for worldwide total extinction of any animal species is bad regardless of how much you personally dislike them
Things this post does not say:
-You can never kill a bug ever for any reason
-We should not enact population control in regards to invasive and disease-carrying organisms
-You must allow bugs to feed on you and infest your house and be happy about it the entire time
things this post could also say:
despite there being many bugs that pose a danger to us, we hold immense power over them due to our size + strength difference
we should reduce the amount of bugs we harm/kill as much as possible. wherever we can, we should look for alternatives to killing or exterminating non-dangerous bugs (for example: relocating nests rather than gassing them)
it is our responsibility as humans, as custodians of the Earth, & as members of the ecosystem to honour bugs' existence in the web of life & treat them as respectfully as possible, even though they are strange & alien to us. we can even admire & celebrate them!
it does not matter if bugs feel emotions or pain to the same degree that we do. it matters that they are part of nature, will fight for their lives when threatened, & have just as much right to life as any other living being (the bee movie was right about this unfortunately)
the way you treat creatures who are smaller & weaker than you does reflect on your character & you can expect to be disliked/lectured if you kill bugs needlessly, carelessly or joyfully
it is usually worth the small inconvenience of sparing a bug's life. of being careful not to step on that snail. of helping the fly that's drowning in your sink. of letting that spider occupy that corner in your house. kindness is not a limited resource nor a luxury reserved for creatures of a certain size/species
some bugs' worst crime is that they're annoying. you should let nature annoy you sometimes. it's good for your soul
the short version: mosquitoes are not important enough to the ecosystem to let malaria + the dozen other severe diseases they spread to go unchecked should we devise a way to stamp them out
bedbugs however cause no disease, so there is no reason, financially or morally, to spend science funding on entirely eradicating them.
Just go on and flush them out periodically
Unfortunately it’s become quite normal in New York- so much so that it’s usually included in realtor contracts.
Things my post did not say: “there’s only one species of mosquito”
Only about 200 carry disease. We’d still have over 3,000 left if we developed species-specific way to eradicate the problem ones. Which is what people are already working on.
them carrying diseases is not the fault of the mosquito it's the fault of the parasite which ALSO USES THEM AS A HOST.
Ok and?
This isn’t a “punishment”, (punitive morality style- this blog is pro prison abolition) its “valuing human lives and/or years upon years of horrendous suffering over the existence of 1.5% of a clade of species that barely have neurons to speak of and do not take up an appreciable enough niche to- this is the important bit- in utilitarian fashion, morally justify said death and suffering”
Maybe read 50 memoirs of what it’s like to live with any of the dozen diseases carried this way and then get back to us on whether you’d volunteer yourself for this drawn out suffering to save an invertebrate that is tiny and inconsequential even by invertebrate standards.
Or is it only when it’s some other group of human beings subject to suffering that it becomes “muddy”
Oh hey I remember you! You're the dipshit racist who said this!
I've talked at length about how devoting resources to further decimating the ecosystems of colonized countries instead of providing access to things we KNOW work such as the MALARIA VACCINE, healthcare, treatment, preventatives, and conservation is actually Not Good--as a brown person whose family still lives in the global south-- all over this post. Hell I talked about it less than 6 hours ago. I'll even put my most recent talk about it under the cut if you are for some reason unable to click on the view replies button.
I don't think we should take advice from mx "the deaths of black people were actually useful to the cause when you think about it" over here
But hey, as long as we're being purely utilitarian, I think that you would be a lot more valuable as soylent green!
Honestly same like the way the fandom has woobified nwh otto and norman has made them like so distasteful to me
To be fair towards the fandom, Raimiverse Otto already had some pretty woobie-adjacent traits to him in spider-man 2, and I feel like a lot of the people who like him have seen that move either before or after watching NWH (me included) so while I can understand your frustration, personally I don’t really find him being “woobified” that bad or unreasonable.
NWH Norman on the other hand is where it gets frustrating for me personally. But again, I don’t really fault the fans for it. The writers had put in the effort to woobify Norman to the point where he’s an entirely different character and many of the fans were just playing off of that imo.

would be remiss not to mention that the rainbow notably straight up just removed the trans flag colors from it. like they’re gone. it’s the progress flag minus the trans flag colors.

What the duck?
[Description: the video is captioned "Find the duck game", and we see several blindfolded women in hijabs groping around an enclosed ring while spectators look on, cheering and laughing . After a few seconds the camera pans so that you can see the duck, who is waddling around, casually yet resolutely resisting capture. Periodically the women collide with each other. They do not find the duck. End ID]
