Day 39 - 21/1/19 Having scrumptious meal to cheer me up today, *the kids made the gif* and Some of the kids were praticing catwalk for the party on Friday, it's just hilarious. I taught Level 9 today, we played bingos, hangman and Guess the word. It was quite fun ~
Day 17 -30/12/18
We were basically just chilling in our place today. So here’s my Breakfast. Lunch. and a coconut milkshake. I forgot to take picture of dinner but it tasted like home, the sisters prepared us veggie soup (it tasted like the soup my mom cooks for me) and fish. And we had a divine coconut milkshake yall !! divine!! it tastes like heaven.

In her essay Tik Tok the great philosopher Ke$ha declared that ‘the party don’t start till I walk in.’ which is clearly meant to convey that any recreational gathering is not truly a party until Ke$ha herself arrives.
But what if Ke$ha were to leave the party for some period of time only to then walk in again? This paradoxical scenario in which a party must simultaneously already exist and not exist yet is known as Ke$ha’s Quantum Party and has stumped theoretical physicists for decades.
Ke$ha clearly states that “when I leave for the night I ain’t comin’ back” (Animal 2.4), and furthermore, that “Tonight, Imma fight/‘Til we see the sunlight” (2.13-14), implying that she will neither depart nor desist from celebration until the following solar recurrence; moreover, she asserts in the refrain that “…the party don’t stop, no” (2.16), sagely reassuring us that no spacetime-rending event will occur.
Woaahohoh
My AIESEC experience
It’s a wrap!
My whole 6 weeks experience in Vietnam has been amazing. Vietnam was initially not my first choice. I applied for Vietnam as my application from Taiwan didn’t give me any response. As a consequent, my manager encouraged me to choose Vietnam due to their quick response. I had a pleasant interview session with the Opportunity Manager for the project I applied, hence having a great impression on Vietnamese. It’s more like a casual conversation to achieve understanding and expectation in Vietnam whether I’m able to adapt the local life, we also chatted about my country, the convo held around 1 hour. I got accepted for the interview on the same day (I think everyone who applies will get accepted though)
I have never intended to go Vietnam, it was never in my bucket list. I know completely nothing about Vietnam except hectic traffic, Vietnamese cuisine, conical hats and history. My head was full with doubts and uncertainties when I made my decision for it. Besides that, I had to pay for Aiesec Fee to the local chapter in my uni which I don’t really know what was it for, they say it’s for facilitation fee but the ones who facilitates are volunteers too, they aren’t even paid for their job. I was anxious the few days before arriving to Vietnam. We had to pay IPS-incoming preparation seminar (a seminar where pay the local AIESEC facilitators in Vietnam) fee too when we reach Vietnam. VISA I had to apply for a visa too as I will be in Vietnam for more than 30 days. It’s my very first time applying visa, actually a visa is not necessary if I’m doing border run where the money spent on visa is equivalent/cheaper for a trip to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. It came to my realization that most of the interns didn’t apply for visa too, they did a border run to Cambodia. I was so dumb that I thought that the payment to apply visa online is just enough. The online payment is just for the visa form. I had to pay $25 again when I arrive Vietnam. Lmaoooo the online payment for a form of 3 papers is such a scam. :P
But of course, there will be risk of not applying visa as well. Sometimes things can happen unexpectedly like you are not allowed to leave your volunteering place or such.
OPS(Outgoing Preparation Seminar) & IPS(Incoming Preparation Seminar) There were lots of talks on becoming world citizen?- kinda pointless sometimes but I think it helps manages fear for people who are afraid of the unknown. We had lots of bonding activities in my campus for the OPS.
IPS was great! I really enjoyed the bonding session with the local Vietnamese and people all around the world coming Vietnam for volunteering. Blind spots Initially, I only wanted to volunteer locally. I didn’t know I signed up for the Global Volunteer where I get to volunteer abroad. I did ask my local chapter whether I’m capable enough to teach children even when I don’t have a teaching qualification. They say they will facilitate me.
I didn’t really get a teaching training during my internship, but I did ask for suggestions on how to teach. (It’s actually volunteering but everyone say as internship I don’t even know why either). I guess not everyone comes with the same aim, I personally think interns in my place including me didn’t do a great job to empower the kids to learn English. Most of them were reluctant to learn English even till the last day I talked with them, they rely too much on Google translate during our conversation. I tried my best to learn Vietnamese, hence they only want me to speak Vietnamese not English :( Yeeks.
I enjoyed my stay in the province, although it’s isolated from the city where everyone gets to hang out together quite often. I didn’t get my cert and departure support wasn’t that pleasant. heh Experience & Vietnam It’s literally amazing, it was truly an eye-opening experience for me. The only barrier was the language as it’s really hard to communicate in English in non-touristy area. I was well fed, I’m obese right now, it’s really wrong because Vietnamese are all so skinny, probably they are really hardworking? Vietnamese, especially women, are the most diligent persons ever. The sisters in my workplace just keeps working, I really wished that let me help them more. Everyone here is friendly, despite the language barrier, they will just hold your hands and guide you along.
I talked with the kids about their big dreams and future. Every country is beautiful in its own way, I think politics are what making people’s life worse. On the other hand, I can’t believe that education is not free in Vietnam, some kids are illiterate because they are special kids?? Those kids were not dumb at all to me. They can’t even read their own mother tongue. I wish someone out there can help them to achieve their dreams because everyone deserves education, it’s freakin 21st century y’all.
Day 15 - 28/12/18
The kids were banging our windows early in the morning around 6.45am, and the sisters said they are taking us out for breakfast and we weren’t informed earlier. It was such an impromptu hangout. We didn’t know where were we going either.
The sisters, maid and bus drivers followed us together. We were taken into a Cafe&Football place called Gia Nguyen. The place was very tranquil and I honestly like the serenity. I ordered sokola sua nong (hot chocolate milk) while everyone ordered iced drinks. It was TOO SWEET !!!! I think it's because it's the last weekday for 2018 so the Sisters treat everyone :>
We went to jewelry shop later as D & G are planning to buy gold back India, but me and Shelvia were just strolling around the streets. They tie the live frog for sell lmaooo it's hella gross.
Here's my lunch
Dinner
Day 14 - 27/12/18
Had noodles with meatball for breakfast. Me and Shelvia sneaked out again to get some drink after teaching morning class. Thank god I got some simple phrases in Vietnamese right. I ordered coffee while Shelvia ordered sunshine milk tea.
Breakfast.
We had afternoon classes today too as the children are on holiday so they won’t be having classes at school. They weren't having interest to study as they just finished their exams and one of them was DIY-ing a house. It was pretty cool.
Was so happy cause there was veggie in my lunch today. We later discussed our new year plan with the sisters and they allowed us to go to the city on new year eve to celebrate. Yayyy!
Sister Trang prepared us fried rice cake (bot chien) and jackfruit. heheh It was one of the student’s birthday and we celebrated with him at our gazebo. So lovely to see each other celebrating together :)
Day 13 -26/12/18
Boxing day! Sweet bun and oatmeal for breakfast. Me and Shelvia sneaked out to get some street food after teaching😝
Went to father's house, it’s a seminary where these brothers study philosophy and bible there and become future pastors. Plus, they can speak good English too! It's a peaceful place.
The church was just recently furnished with polished marble.
It's a really nice and huge place, the kids wanted to stay there too! The brothers prepared biscuits, jelly, drinks for everyone. The kids even had karaoke and danced there. There was a spacious ground for them to play football.
Awesome day~
Day 12- 25/12/18
Christmas Party in my workplace
Merry Christmas !! This is my first Christmas away from home :))
Giao, Hien and Linh came to visit us to share our experience and give our feedback to them. The Sisters prepared us with cute snacks.
Christmas Party at the garden. Seeing the kids happy made me happy, the food was real good too :) There were mung bean soup, cha gio (fried spring rolls), bread with pate + ham, watermelon, tea, rice crackers, fried rice, cake....
Day 11 - 24/12/18
It’s Christmas Eve ! Sister Trang wore her nun clothing. The boarding school was empty today, there weren’t any kids except those special kids. I was glad they were able to spell out A~F, we all taught the kids one by one. Deepika and Getta was conversing with them in Tamil and letting them watch Crayon Shin Chan in Tamil on their phone. hah. I’ve always put my phone in my room when teaching these kids as they like to sneak to my pocket and get my phone, and all of them will start fighting for it *these kids are smart*
Breakfast. Bread & Jam, and oatmeal.
I went to help Marie as I saw her plucking the veggies alone. Vietnamese actually like their leafy veggies to be intact, probably for better food presentation? For me I just throw away withered leaves and cook the rest.
Lunch. The food recently has been fueled with pork, how am I not fat?
We had a church mass after dinner for Christmas Eve. This was my 1st ever time spending Christmas Eve in a catholic church, the procedure is really religious but there was a Q&A session for the kids to guess some bible verse for them to get prizes.
After the prayer, I think the sisters were having gathering with visitors and elder sisters, while the kids went back to their place to watch tv. Everyone was minding their own business so we just went back to our room.
Dinner. Macaroni made from rice with vietnamese ham.
The sisters came to our room out of the blue, bringing each of us some weird looking drink. There were jelly, dates, lotus, lotus seed, green unknown thingy inside. I really enjoyed it.
Thanks you Sister Tho, Sister Trang, Sister Yung and Sister Thuy !!
They wanted to take picture with us. We all had some small chat, they asked why is my skin so fair and they pinched my cheeks huh uh... I really like the sisters, If only I knew the language more enough to communicate with them :) Sister Ter was very perky, she’s the translator for us.
Day 10 -23/12/18
Sister Trang gave us Ao Dai - Vietnamese traditional shirt dress to wear on after our breakfast. I looked so fat in my hips, it was a nice dress but I’m really uncomfortable with my appearance (here comes my insecurities, sorry peeps). I only thought I was here to teach hence I didn’t bring any pretty clothes or heels, I look mediocre as usual. :P Sister Trang said the younger sisters in the Church will be wearing it for Christmas this week, so we shall wear it too.
It was the first ever catholic and church mass I attended. It’s a nice church.
-ˏˋ I could feel the glory ˊˎ-
I felt unusually holy since yesterday. As an atheist, I respect every religion and I reckon the fact that each religion possesses their own good values.
uhm the sisters didn’t wear the ao dai. They were laughing + saying it looked nice on me instead hohoho, how embarrassing. I was well fed in Vietnam and every food in Vietnam is delicious, how not to eat? That’s why I’m obese now. yikes. The pastor then invited us for a basement party as X’mas celebration. There were fried spring rolls, roasted chicken, fried pork, fried rice, corn kuih, cupcakes, swiss roles. Everything tasted divine. It was like a small gathering for expats who are catholics all around the world. There were people from different countries. We met a guy from Cameroon (Africa) and we all had a small chat with him.
We went AEON mall later in the province. I really like their small treats.Toilet is clean, Dee and Getta had lunch later in Jolliebee where the crew has uniforms like typical communist. When we were heading back I saw people climbing the lamp post for maintenance like monkeys without any safety tools. I looks really dangerous and extraordinary for me.
Su gave me cakoi (fry dough) after dinner, such a sweet girl :) I had a wonderful day indeed :) *ps. this is not Su*
Day 9 - 22/12/19
Attending Vietnamese’s Wedding
I’m extremely hype right now because I’m going to my buddy’s sister’s wedding later. My buddy say it’s an engagement party thingy where the groom goes to the bride house to ask for permission in marriage.
-
Had my1st GrabBike experience. Took GrabBike to Becamex Tower, my buddy was supposed to pick me up there but she had already dressed up so I took the GrabBike again and went to her place. The driver was so helpful when he knew the address was wrong, he didn’t even charge me extra for going further away
-
I was wandering outside her neighborhood as she haven’t replied me yet. People were staring at me...hmmm. Met her friends, gave her some Malaysian snacks and we took some photos, it was a privileged to get invited for the engagement party but sadly everyone was conversing in Vietnamese and I can’t understand anything except mot hai ba (1,2,3) when they were taking pictures. I felt quite comfortable as everyone was putting food on my bowl when each dish comes up, they didn't treat me like a stranger at all. She has a friend who’s going to the States next week so we had the chance to converse in English. The food was special, I can’t really be specific but there’s just lots of veggie in every meal and for people who can’t stand coriander, pity you. I was already full after tasting the 2nd dish!! But I was encouraged to try everything :>
It was definitely a nice experience, Vietnam has lots of nice human beings. <3 I didn’t bring pretty clothes as I thought I was only here to teach :X The sisters took us out later at night just to see the christmas decorations in the city :) It was a superb day indeed! *check pictures in previous post* -
They sisters were making their prayers in the van when we were on the way to Ho Chi Minh. We had Vietnamese sandwich for dinner and the view of Ho Chi Minh at night is just remarkable. We went to a random street and there were literally Christmas Decorations in every corner ! We passed by at least 3 churches in the same street and I think it just continue as long as 5km. The decos are exquisite, we were in awe when we saw how creative everyone can be in Vietnam. There even built up waterfalls too in between the decos. Day well spent with the Sisters and my friends.
Day 8 - 21/12/18
Is has been a week for my stay in Vietnam and the boarding school, I didn’t really know what to teach today so I just showed the kids ABC songs on youtube. They fought for the remote control uhm..
I didn’t really want the whole lesson just to let them watch ABC songs and other stuffs. Hence, I taught them UP DOWN LEFT RIGHT with gestures + body language. I think it kinda worked. Sometimes I wonder how my mom taught me languages when I was younger....
Here’s breakfast. Rice vermicelli with chopped carrots + a really good oatmeal drink I guess, I don’t know what is it, but I feel like buying it back home.
Fried rice + melon juice for Lunch.
Went to talk with the kids. They took me a stroll in the bike and the trolley. Simple pleasures. If only adults enjoy simple pleasures like them. They sneaked out to ride the bike so they kept hiding when they saw the sisters (They call her Madam). I told them I wanted to go out and get cakoi, and Su said she will buy for me on Sunday <3 How lovely.
The teacher in the kindergarten tried to talk to me, I honestly think everyone here is nice to me. Unfortunately, I couldn’t speak their language and she just kept smiling to me :))
Dinner , it’s like rice in soup with chicken. Me likey.
Went to study area early and the sisters told us we don’t need to teach till Sunday as the level 1~5 kids just finished their exams. I was spanking hype for it as I can attend my buddy’s sister’s wedding tomorrow ! Yeappie!
