INTRODUCTION
Hey, I'm Fluttadust! I’m an artist who loves drawing my favorite things. Right now, I'm really into Undertale (UTDR/UTMV), but you can find more of my interests on my blog. Why not have a look around? You might find something you'll like! 💖

I love Lancer & Susie’s friendship, so I was quick to wonder if this scene with Tenna was an intentional callback to that, as it didn’t really make as much sense for him to refer to her that way otherwise, unless whoever he was talking to didn’t recognize Susie by name. The circumstances are very similar too, it’s when Susie realizes that the person she’s just connected with is working behind her back. It feels more cold when they don't refer to her by name.
And yeah, both Lancer & Tenna are characters who get along with Susie right off the bat and aren’t put off by her abrasive comments. They also try to appeal to her personality, instead of challenge it. (Lancer with genuinely taking her advice and trying to mimic her, Tenna with making a minigame just for her themed around her wish of being Susiezilla.) She fights them both when they betray her, but she also opens up more because of it, and ultimately she wants to help them in whatever way she can.
I sort of think of them as the Dark World reflections of her connection to Kris & Toriel (although they are very much their own people with their own dynamics with her.) Weird kids who look past her bullying and want to befriend her for who she is, and friendly adults who don't take offense to her and want to make her feel welcome and valued.
As a lesbian who also missed lilytale so very much your fem designs for Sans and Papyrus makes me scream with delight! I adore your art so much! ❤️
AHHHH!
THANK YOUUU!!!!!
I too am absolutely enamoured with my girls! I’ve been having so much fun with them! (With some more au variants also on the way)
Lillytale was really such a fun au, and nighttime pixels is an excellent writer and artist!
I’m glad someone who shares my love for the original au managed to find my girls as well!
I can’t quite hold a candle to the original lillytale- especially not the writing complexities, but I’m trying to slowly build my own thing, in a similar vein-
Though I guess that’s getting a bit off topic?
Thank you for sending this ask in, you really made my evening :D
If I was in the position to be doing so I would be kicking my legs and giggling from joy….
Cough cough also if you got this far down- I may or may not be making my own attempt to write for my girls as well- starting with a fic for my fem! Sans-

If you happen to want some reading material for them anyway… cough
If you got Undertale brainrot but you need to practice drawing humans, get yourself a handsome human Sans to study from. 👏🏽
@and-bone-appetit's human Nightmare Sans was a great candidate for this exercise! I also practiced lineless art on my favorite sketch too. I haven't made any in ages. I just draw sketches nowadays, but it'd be nice to pick it up again. I miss it…
Nightmare: *casually talking about how he’s gonna take over the world and plunge it into eternal damnation*
So, this topic reminded me of some of the feelings I have towards Nightmare's canon lore, and I wanted to share my thoughts on it. Click the button below if you're interested.

Nightmare Sans Lore Rant
When it comes to Nightmare, I have some qualms with his lore. The biggest one is the evil human spirit that corrupted him.
Nightmare being possessed by an evil human spirit never sat right with me, because he never needed someone to push him into eating the black apples in the first place. Nightmare had all the right motives to make that decision himself. He was othered, bullied, depressed, lonely, and was always favored over (and compared to) his brother Dream, which led him to contaminate the golden apples in the first place.
Side Tangent: The guy doesn’t even get his own name. He was only named Nightmare because he was the “opposite of Dream.”
To me, having the evil human spirit manipulate Nightmare into eating the black apples takes away Nightmare’s agency. Sometimes good people make bad decisions when they’re pushed to their limits. Why couldn’t the same be for Nightmare?
Another issue I have with the evil human spirit is that it takes away the tension in Dream and Nightmare’s relationship and replaces it with a traditional good vs evil trope, with the antagonist being a random human guy, who we barely know, wearing Nightmare’s skin.
Having a brother vs brother war would’ve been more impactful because it’s a conflict that runs deeper than the pursuit of restoring the balance between positivity and negativity. It’s personal. Familial.
Seeing Dream trying to reconnect with Nightmare while also trying to save the multiverse would’ve been intense and engaging for me, whether or not he failed. So I’m disappointed that this story element wasn’t in the original comic.
My Take on Nightmare Sans
In case I post more art of Nightmare, here’s a short explanation of my interpretation of him.
The human who killed Nim simply passed away after Nim defeated him. So when Nightmare picked the first black apple from the tree, he never heard a voice coaxing him into eating it. Seeing the townspeople grow angry and hostile towards Nightmare ignited his desire to eat the apple out of fear and anger towards the village.
So when Nightmare ate the first black apple, his being was corrupted by the apple itself. It intensified his negative emotions to the point that they fully consumed him and turned him into a darker version of himself who resented his brother and wanted revenge on the village that made his life a living hell. So Corrupted Nightmare and Passive Nightmare are the same person in my reimagining.
Extras
I like to think that the magical apples can intensify or unlock your truest feelings. So when Nightmare and Dream ate them, it gave them the ability to manipulate people’s emotions themselves.
Also, how did the apples turn into souls when Dream and Nightmare ate them? I never understood how that worked.
What do you think?
Let me know what y’all think. I loved to read your opinions about this. I rarely see people talk about this aspect of Nightmare’s backstory.
Also, if I said anything wrong about Nightmare’s lore, please let me know! I don’t want to spread any misinformation. 🙏🏽
Amazing drawings AND a rant about nightmare? I must be dreaming…
BUT YES I AGREE WITH YOUR TAKE ON HIM ENTIRELY!! I also like the idea that the apples somewhat become a part of the soul when consumed by anyone rather than just dream or nightmare? It doesn’t become their souls though, that’s exclusive to the brothers. As to explain that…
…I think since Dream and Nightmare’s souls were non-physical flames, eating the apples essentially let their essences fuse with them and therefore boom, physical soul…? But while this made Dream mortal, it kind of made Nightmare…immortal? I…don’t know actually
I'm glad to see that someone agrees with my take on Nightmare! Corrupted and Passive Nightmare being the same person just makes sense, y'know?
I like your take on the apples, too! Having the apples become a part of a mortal's soul opens up a lot of new and exciting ideas that you can play with. Like if someone ate a golden apple, they’re more likely to lean towards hope than despair. And if someone ate a black apple, they’re more likely to accept and confront their negative emotions than to suppress them. Cool stuff! New headcanon unlocked!
After rereading the comic (which you can find at @.undertaleaucomicsarchive), Dream and Nightmare were born immortal. Dream became mortal after eating the last golden apple on page 34, but the comic never states that Nightmare retained his immortality after eating the other golden apples.
So I would assume that Nightmare is mortal too, but harder to defeat than Dream because of the amount of apples he ate from the Tree of Feelings. This is because on page 35, Dream’s power was able to alter his universe’s negativity level. However, since Nightmare’s aura was “at least 20 times bigger than his little brother’s,” Dream had a huge disadvantage during the fight against Nightmare.
(Headcanon: I like to think that Dream and Nightmare are the type of immortal beings that live forever unless someone of equal power or status kills them.)
Also, it seems like Dream and Nightmare’s true form functions similarly to the ghosts in Undertale. On page 32, Dream tries to escape his skeletal body but couldn’t because of the strength of Nightmare’s negativity tentacle strangling him to the ground. So, “in a desperate attempt to protect the last remaining piece of positive feelings,” Dream eats the last golden apple and then, as you said, fuses with it on page 34, with the final golden apple becoming his soul.
(Theory: Since their true forms function similarly to UT ghosts, the moment Dream’s true form fused with the golden apple probably made him corporeal. So I would think he can’t leave his skeletal body anymore.)
Omg, that was a lot, but I’m glad that finally got settled. Thanks for the help and your lovely comment! 🫶
Hi peeps!! It's been awhile TvT. So to explain my inactivity I was swamped with school work, had little to no energy/motivation to draw, got pulled into another fandom, and I also got a job. Now the reason for this update is because I kinda wanna move on from making Undertale content. This doesn't mean that I'm gonna stop making undertale content like FULL STOP FOREVER, no bc let's be fr imma relapse to Undertale at some point and redesigning is fun. With that said, I'm planning on turning this blog into a multifandom blog. Interests have shifted for a while now, I’ve been hyperfixated on another fandom, and I’ve been wanting to make content that isn’t solely UT which includes: current or other interests/fixations, OC stuff, and honestly anything I just wanna draw and share on this blog with you peeps. Thank you all for the love and support on my Undertale content, it’s been wonderful to see the interaction and making friends through Undertale! It definitely holds a special place in my heart. With that said I think it’s time for some expansion and reconstruction on this blog and who knows, maybe my next fixations line up with yours too :3
Thank you for reading this and keep an eye out for more stuff to come!!
HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY SANS UNDERTALE!!!
I'm fashionable late, but I'm sure Sans wouldn't have it any other way. My first skeleton love. This man will always hold a special place in my heart <3
This year, I want you to be unapologetic when you create.
Don’t apologize for your writing, drawing, music, designs, films, sculptures, cosplays, knitting, sewing, cooking, and anything else I might’ve missed.
Don’t apologize for the quality.
Stop being afraid of what you can accomplish. You might think you can do so much better, well guess what? You will. You’re always improving. But if you start to apologize for the best you can do at this moment, then you might restrain yourself, stop yourself from taking risks that will help you.
I know this is a hard thing to stop. I do it all the time. When I submit art to people that I’m not so confident about, I’ll apologize in advance.
This year, I challenge you, and myself, to stop doing it.
