Accepting her mobile with a slightly concerned thank you, Peggy didn’t answer the man’s questions right away. He seemed far too bothered by what she had told him for Peggy to not think he was somehow personally affected by the extent of it all. She wasn’t all too sure how, but she’d probably figure it out soon enough. She liked uncovering the truth behind things. Simply replying with a soft yes, Peggy waited patiently as Jim seemed to want to zone out while staring at the Washington Monument across the way. The first thing that crossed Peggy’s mind at his statement was that Jim was possibly speaking of an alternate reality. That would make his earlier texts to her rather clear now as well, she realised.
Still waiting patiently as he spoke again, Peggy’s gaze went to the object he had removed from his pocket. Her breath suddenly caught, eyes going wide once more. A mobile emitter. ‘Why does he have a mobile emitter? Why does this one look real? Oh, my gosh, is it real? Don’t freak out and fangirl, Peggy. Now is not the time,’ she thought to herself as Jim activated the device.
For a split second, Peggy thought Jim might be like that guy who created Thor’s hammer to only work with his thumbprint as long as the magnets were on something they could stick to. Clearly, the technology Jim held in his hand was clearly far more advanced than the holograms that were still only in their extreme infancy in the present day. This must mean- “Oh, my gosh,” Peggy couldn’t speak more than a whisper. “Captain…” Peggy couldn’t hold back the smile that lit up her face even as her arms developed goose bumps at the realisation that Star Trek is real.
“Consider my mind officially blown. This is the greatest day of my life,” Peggy admitted, her voice giving away how emotionally affected she was by this completely chance encounter. “I have so many more questions now- wait. Can I even ask questions? Since all of this is real, and you have future knowledge, I can’t know what’ll happen. It could change something important. Or maybe knowing that something’ll happen allows it to take place as it’s supposed to without a hitch. That’s always the confusing part of knowing the future. Is it set already where, no matter what anyone does, the events of the future will still happen the way a person from the future remembers them, or is it possible to change what a person from the future remembers? I don’t think I want to find out. That’s a bit of a scary situation,” she mused.
“Alternate timelines, though. You were confused by this city. That it was familiar but something was off, and now you’re aware that this isn’t your Earth. So that’s what this must be; an alternate timeline. That still doesn’t decrease any possible risks. Your universe is now without and my universe is suddenly with, so there’s clearly going to be some kind of consequence that both sides will eventually have to come to terms with.“ Peggy stopped talking after that, looking up at Jim with worry clear in her eyes.
this went faster than expected . once things seemed to hit her , peggy became a bit whirlwind . he shut off the holo-emitter before it caught any unwanted attention & kept his eyes trained on her , doing his best to keep up , as he tucked the holo-emitter back into his jacket pocket . he was a popular name among the federation , a hot topic you might say , & maybe he had a few admirers . . . but he’d never had someone he would call a fan in his life .
❝ . . . right . exactly . ❞ he says when she’s finished & looking up at him with round eyes . he got most of that & what he didn’t get slowly sewed itself together with the rest . ❝ i don’t think i’m from this world , i think there would be some record of my life being a si-fi series from over two hundred years in the past . we don’t have anything called star trek where i’m from . so , questions are probably allowed . ❞ star wars , sure , but no star trek . ❝ when it comes to double universe consequences , though , i’d really like to avoid them at all possible . i don’t need that mess . i’ve dealt with parallel worlds before , i’ve even been to one . . . but not like this . ❞ wherever spock prime was from & that empire universe the ion storm sent them to where spock had a goatee , those were different . he at least existed as a real person in those !
a beat & then he goes to his belt & plucks off something clipped to it . ❝ my friends , the ones i mentioned earlier who i got separated from , i was talking about my crew . ❞ while he is worried , some part of him is confident that his ship & crew will be ok , if anything . without him , spock had the conn & there wasn’t anyone he trusted more to keep everyone safe . he flips open the object from his belt --- a communicator --- & it gives it’s usual series of chirps in response . ❝ this doesn’t pick up anything here which , to be expected , i guess , but i’ve still tried every channel on it . i thought i got something on bones’ channel earlier but it’s back to silence now so i don’t know . i was trying to trace the signal when i found your phone . ❞
it was static on bones’ channel earlier that day , which was something that beat radio silence at least , but it had sucked back to nothing , with no trace , once he had gotten to the bench he would soon find a lost phone under . sighing , he snapped the communicator shut then blue eyes with back to peggy . ❝ do you know anything that might get me back ? anything . ❞
