so I’ve been more active on TikTok lately even tho I still kinda hate it and it’s brain rot properties. but I’ve been enjoying the World Cup clips (not interested in the sport, just the peace and happiness and cultural exchange from the “great American sleepover”) and also booktok girlies bringing media literacy to the one piece fandom. But also cuz of the 3 booktok people I follow, my fyp is like 80% booktok. I’ve seen a lot of people, total normies, (rightfully) upset at Amazon discontinuing kindle support and asking their comments to list alternate ereaders cuz they’re going to have to throw away their kindle or something. Cuz it is “bricked”. dude the consumerism and tech illiteracy and ewaste! It’s perfectly fine to be angry at the multi billion dollar company for mistreating customers and stufff, but a simple internet search will give you at least 10 tutorials on jailbreaking kindles!! Bruhhh. I’m tempted to make a video having to handhold them to modding and right to repair stuff so they don’t have to waste $150-250 on a kobo or boox or bigme when their kindles are still perfectly usable!! Uggh

but also I don’t wanna show my face lol so like PowerPoint it is I guess lol. I should figure out how to work a basic free vtuber model so my videos aren’t as boring. I know how to do a basic pngtuber, I even drew one myself because it is only 2 frames/images needed, but I’m not sure how to connect a computer pngtuber to my phone or whatever. Hmm. well anyways. ebay for a used kindle. Jailbreak (depending on model and software of kindle, winter break, adbreak, or nosebleed). I followed the Damnitjeff YouTube video for the website. The website literally handholds you step by step, the devs really tried their best to make it so easy for normies, that seeing tiktok users not know about it is just sad man. Install koreader and koreader plugin, simple UI, and whatever other program you want once jailbroke. Just plug in kindle to pc, use calibre libraries and program to keep your book files organized and also send to kindle and keep track of what’s on it. Or, once you break drm, you can just drag n drop to the documents folder. but calibre has a nice little checkmark next to books that are on your kindle and will keep it organized by author. for legal ebooks, either humblebundle or kobo. They might have what’s called adobe digital editions drm, but adobe drm is easily broken by calibre and de-drm plugin. If windows 11, use adobe digital editions 3.0. I tried 4.0 on windows 11 and it crashed constantly! I had to rollback to 3.0 and the program worked fine again. For Humblebundle, it depends on the bundle and publisher. Some publishers let humblebundle give you drm free ebooks directly, others give you a digital code to redeem on the kobo store. Also, some publisher companies like Tor you can buy books from their website directly and the books are already drm free. Or they have other ebook stores like kobo agree to host/sell their ebooks drm-free. I’ve also seen websites like story bundle and ebooks.com suggested to have drm-free books legally, but I’ve not used them before.

DO NOT do kindle store, nook ebook store, or kadokawa book walker online stores. They may be tempting and have sales, but the drm is not breakable so you do not get to own your ebooks like kobo can let you. Also sadly bookshop.org does not allow drm free ebooks, so just stick to physical books from them.

(I do have a book classic/1st gen tho tbh lol but I got a more recent kindle cuz my book is like 10+ years old and the battery is kaput :(

I have heard tho that you can mod/swap the battery yourself tho so I’m tempted and then I will have 2 ereaders! The nook classic is also one of the few ereaders to have a micro SD slot for storage expansion. however, due to Barnes n nobles horrible and restrictive drm on their ebooks, nooks get pretty forgotten about when ereaders come up lol. I have heard that kobo ereaders are good but the customer service is not so good and also the software is buggy. Kindle….yeah….

but nooks are supposed to be so boring, no real extra features, only reading, the software is supposedly very stable and never crashes or glitches. And if it breaks or anything, unlike the kobo or kindle since rakuten and amazon have no physical stores, you can just find a Barnes n noble area and ask the employees there for customer support lol. So maybe people should also consider nooks as well instead of (new) kindles. At least it means that Amazon will not get anymore money lol. My eBay money went to some Canadian guy I got my used kindle from lol!)

So I’m not into rom coms and all but I keep getting this fucking ad on YouTube for w movie called one night only and usually I just skip after 15 seconds or whatever the required minimum time is but the other say I was too lazy to skip so I ended up listening to/ watching the entire movie trailer and it said “the only day when sex is legal” and my ears fucking perked up like WHATTTTT.

for my job we need to have like 20 hours of training per year. for shits and giggles I signed up for a cyber bullying webinar a few weeks ago and last year I signed up for an Internet safety webinar too. both I left a bit disappointed. the one last year wasn’t too bad just cuz I think the presenter dude seemed a bit younger like a Gen X or elder millennial. When he asked for a feedback or questions at the end and I did mention how out dated the PowerPoint seemed that it didn’t mention modern dangers like the manosphere or Andrew Tate, he said that they’re working on updating it. So that was at least acknowledged. but the more recent cyber bullying one that i attended really stuck with me cuz it advocated for surveillance and monitoring your kids. Ugh. And the presenter, while nice, sounded like an elderly man who probably didn’t know anything about the modern internet. Ugh. I sent a long feedback to their survey but who knows if it will actually be read. Ugh.

my mom wants me to make her a hot water bottle cozy so it stays warm for a longer time and also doesn't burn your face when you lay on it lol.

i have no issue with this except:

in my knitting arc, i've learned that natural fibers like wool hold heat the best. my mom is allergic to wool so i can't use wool. ugh. i got some acrylic yarn but idk how long it will hold heat (and hopefully not melt???)

for some absolutely BAFFLING reason, many hot water bottle cozies look like the hot water bottle will just be like. trapped forever???? they're so snug and the opening top looks too tight, i dont understand man lol. what if you need to wash it because, you know, the people who use heating pad type stuff usually are sick?????? the germs???? ngl, i'm a bit happy that paimon is getting recast half due to the voice actor revealing themself to be a horrible cyberbully to their coworkers and their fans (well, former fans), and half due to just. not really liking the english dub trope when full grown adults try to imitate ~*uwu cutesy baby voice*~ .

like, maybe it's just practice due to asian culture wanting afab people to be sweet and pleasant at all times (gag, misogyny...), but original language dubs of east asian content with feminine voices that are the cutesy girly high pitched voice seem to not really grate my ears. like, it's high but its soft at the same time? maybe it's just practice to sound like that?

anyways though, the original voice actor did not sound very good. like, yes, they could act and be emotional at appropriate times, although that can also be chalked up to having a decent english dub director. but like, just their voice. it's so....shrill. i've played the chinese dub and the actress is the more natural sounding *uwu cute* voice, high but soft. not high and loud/shrill.

and like, it's just a trope i'm not really fond of at all. i don't watch english dubs of many anime for this reason. heck, i stopped watching a mandarin language c-drama because the main character girl wouldn't stop acting like a literal 5 year old in a 20-something year old woman's body! i just have little patience for adults who act so childish i guess. and not like, a grown woman with a silly hobby or something to do on the weekends and it makes her a bit QuIrKy and WaCkY. i mean, acting like a literal child 24/7. it was a bad c-drama. maybe another post for context later.

but just, i hope that they cast another actor or actress with a more natural sounding voice.

all that above, i don't like the voice actor. i'm happy that they're gone now, or will be in the next update i guess? or event? but like i don't like all the "news"/dramatuber coverage of it. partly cuz most of them probably don't even play genshin and aren't even a 1.0 player like i am. they don't know the history of the game or community. they're grifters. and, they mostly misgender the voice actor, who is nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns. they usually use she/her. in fact, most posts i see online misgender the actor. and like, i usually block if i can the authors of those comments, or just ignore the videos or down vote comments. partly due to the blatant transphobia most of them have, but also just. this is common knowledge? like, if you google the voice actor and go to like the genshin or fandom or youtuber wikia or whatever, it'll probably have the actor's pronouns. and to me, honestly, if you can't even do basic research on public knowledge of the actor's gender/pronouns, like how can i trust your opinion or judgement or "reporting" (since some dramatubers try to disguise themselves as unbiased newstubers) on the complex history of the community and the voice actors, the developing art/artists vs AI culture war, and antiquated american legal systems and workers' rights?

literally, if the youtuber/commenter can't do basic research on they/them pronouns, they probably aren't smart enough to understand the situation and explain it for others or commentate on it.

oh yeah I talked with a friend abt genshin a while ago abt the voice actor strike and like basically,

as much as there is very very valid criticism on gacha gambling and online games disappearing (stop killing games movement), at the same time, these kinds of long term live service games can be incredibly good and stable income for huge teams of artists, musicians, smaller voice actors getting their first role due to the large ensemble cast (even if it is an npc or random 3 or 4 star character), and so on.

it’s much better to have a stable paycheck from one game year round depending on events, story, etc., rather than hoping that you get like 10 different roles from random games of various development sizes. You know?

Seriously going forward I wish that younger politicians and business people who have understanding of how global projects are will come in and change laws to make such hiring and business practices easier and less confusing while still having some basic measures of employee rights and protections. Idk. Like some crusty dusty old boomer in politics making labor laws now probably has never heard of or seen such a multinational project like Genshin or other modern video games and media. They just don’t understand man.
