“Oh! Hi there,” Hercules spun in shock, cheeks reddening at the sound of someone behind him. “Sorry,” he grabbed his shirt that was sitting on a nearby rock, “No one ever comes to this lake, so I tend to swim in it without worry.”
“Er...” Flynn managed, quirking a brow and staring at the nearly naked man in astonishment. Was it very typical of him to dress down and go for a swim in the local lake? It seemed a bit...strange to Flynn, but who was he to judge.
“I decided to take a more scenic route while exploring today. I didn’t know this was someone’s bathroom.”
Naveen, Aladdin, Esmeralda!
Fuck: “Esmeralda. Sorry, boys, I’m straight as an arrow.”
Marry: “Prince Naveen–I could get used to living as the pampered house husband of a partying prince.”
Get drunk with: “Aladdin would be a fun time, I feel…though there’s no guarantee we wouldn’t get into mischief with one another.”

Taking the Fall || open
The idea of going home and forgetting all about the disastrous ending of the ball in Maldonia has crossed Aladdin’s mind several times. He’d been initially insistent that that was indeed his plan, that no amount of gold could tempt him to stay out here in the wider world of Verden where vengeful faeries turned into dragons and summoned armies of the dead to slaughter hundreds. And at first his feet had turned him homeward, or the direction he was told Agrabah lay in anyway. Abu had been thoroughly agreeable to this idea, being the first of the pair awake to get Al going after they stopped anywhere to rest.
But the closer they got to Agrabah, the more Al’s thoughts turned to Princess Jasmine, and the slower his pace became. Even though it had been rather quickly overshadowed by running from those wraith things, the precise moment that realization had dawned on him was still etched into his mind, and the embarrassment that he had felt was still sloshing around in his stomach and making him ever-so-slightly queasy. By the time he and Abu passed the boarder into Corona, the thief had become convinced that it was a far better idea to avoid Agrabah for a while longer. He just… he wasn’t sure he was ready to run the risk of facing her again, not after how much of a fool he’d made of himself. Also, a not-so-small part of the shame he felt had its origins in how much he wished he’d at least had a chance to look for her during the attack. Even after most likely convincing her that he was the world’s biggest asshat, he would’ve liked to know she was safe. Rumors had spread as he was leaving Maldonia that she’d gotten into a spat with Prince Naveen, so he assumed that she was fine. Still.
All this internal tumult lead eventually to Aladdin turning firmly north and heading into lands he still had yet to see. Since his costume had been so thoroughly shredded and bloodied in his flight out the window with that other guy — what was his name? Noah? Al couldn’t remember just now — he’d been forced to use most of what was left of it to bandage his wounds, and to steal some new clothes elsewhere. The boots had survived and he kept those, and overall was able to make himself look basically presentable enough to cajole a few passing merchants into giving him a lift to wherever they were going. It was an interesting trip, passing through places he’d only ever heard of and which were nothing like he’d imagined. Within a week or two, he and Abu found themselves in the land people told him was called Larean, gazing at the autumn foliage with wonder.
It was quite a sight for someone who’d grown up in a mostly desert land. There were no trees like this anywhere in Agrabah, and certainly none with this vibrant and colorful an array of leaves. They fell from the branches and littered the ground around Al as he and Abu walked towards the nearest town, each rustle causing Abu to start and stare around. Al was fascinated by the natural process; though the idea wasn’t really foreign to him, he’d simply never seen trees that shed their leaves like this. Great piles of them were heaped along the side of the road they traversed, obviously shoved to the side to make way for the carts, horses, and foot traffic. But so entranced was he by the spectacle that the fall foliage provided that Al didn’t notice the group of people on horses rapidly coming up behind him. He was alerted by a cry from one of their number, but he turned too slowly and was forced to leap out of the way of the approaching riders… straight into one of the large piles of leaves. Though it was a soft landing, it was less than ideal, and Al spat a leaf from his mouth as he watched the riders recede into the distance towards town. “Really hope no one saw that,” he mumbled to Abu, who squeaked and shook himself, sending a few leaves flying.
It would appear that Corona wasn’t the only country that Maleficent planned on attacking--it was clear that she wanted to tear every sub-kingdom of Verden apart, bit by bit, until there was nothing left. Not a shred of monarchy, not a shred of humanity, not a shred of anything. Her appearance at the Festival of Joy in his own homeland had been terrifying enough (how many unsuspecting visitors and citizens of Corona had been expecting their peaceful, beautiful Festival of Lights to turn into a spectacle of fire and wonder in the form of a shapeshifting faerie, after all?), but to realize that she was capable of raising the dead--or some strange half-form of the deceased--and force them to serve as her own mindless, powerful army was something else entirely. Not much time had passed since the terrifying incident, but Flynn was still shocked to find how many nights he woke up restless and sweating, his heart racing out of his chest as his mind disrupted him from nights of peaceful sleep with thoughts of those--those things, those wraiths--latching themselves onto Rapunzel’s soul and consuming her alive.
He’d already lost his princess once before; Flynn couldn’t afford for that to happen again.
But Rapunzel was fine--as fine as she could be, given everything that had happened to her--and Flynn was forced to resume life as if nothing was wrong (a feat far easier said than done, mind you). So when Rapunzel would attend princess duties and Flynn would have to stay off on the sidelines, fretting and worrying about her, her mother approached the young man and gingerly suggested that he go out and do something to take his mind off of worrying. Flynn tried to reject any notion that he was concerned, but Queen Sonnenblume saw directly through him; she was able to tell how deep and pure Flynn’s feelings were for her only daughter, and she encouraged him to find something productive (and safe!) to do with his time while the various countries of Verden unified and struggled to think of what to do with Maleficent. So, with little else to do, Flynn asked for a carriage to be prepared for him to head to Larean. Mirindra rested between Corona and Larean, and with the help of powerful horses and a determined coachman, the travel didn’t take too terribly long. By the time Flynn had arrived in Larean, where he’d heard their fall and harvest festivals were beautiful and revered, the young man was hellbent on scouring the country for a gift for Rapunzel.
After all, Christmas was coming up in roughly a month; it was time for him to start thinking about presents and the like, wasn’t it?
A group of royal riders, dedicated to protecting Flynn (still so strange) rode ahead of the carriage, and out of the corner of his eye, Flynn spotted a young man diving headfirst into a large pile of leaves on the side of the road. He looked vaguely familiar, and Flynn immediately asked the driver to halt the horses; he needed to make sure the stranger was alright--currently, he looked half-dead.
As the carriage drew to a halt and Flynn leaped from its interior down onto the floor, he heard the foliage-covered man mutter something to himself...no, not to himself, was that a...a monkey?
“Are you uh, alright?” Flynn asked hesitantly, eyeing the man closely and trying to place a name to his familiar face. “Haven’t seen many people dive into a pile of leaves before.”
“I know… I hope those things don’t happen often! That was Maleficent’s doing, again, wasn’t it? I mean, I heard about some dragon incident before, so it does make sense. One way or the other… First ball I go to and it blows.”
“It was definitely her doing...and if she’s able to oh, I don’t know, raise the dead, then there’s no telling what else she’s capable of. I think a lot of people really underestimated her charisma and powers.”
“As a side note, don’t give up on balls completely. They usually don’t have weird ghost zombies prowling around the place, sucking up souls and devouring people. It was a bit of a damper.”
“No, no, I wouldn’t dream of it. I’ve been to Maldonia enough times to know that they would be the last place one earth to willingly allow this kind of thing to happen. But my uncle has to think of our people first, and after Pesha… everyone is just very scared. They don’t want to be somewhere where the dead have walked any longer than necessary. I’ve tried to talk to them, but it’s like pulling teeth from a goat. No one will listen; they just want to hide.”
“Thank you. Pesha was a good kid. Just turned eighteen. I keep telling myself I did nothing wrong in inviting him to come with us, but… the fact is, he’d be alive if I hadn’t. This is Maleficent’s doing, but I still feel guilty.”
“I can understand that--I take it you don’t belong to any of the kingdoms, then? Are you one of those nomads, then? I’ve heard briefly about a group of people that travel around Verden, but haven’t encountered any of them up close during my travels. People are acting instinctively on fear; I get it, sure, but it should come with a word of caution. In fits of fear, people tend to make some really stupid decisions. Trust me.”
“You have nothing to feel guilty for--you can’t blame yourself for the maliciousness of another person. You can’t blame yourself for your kindness when the true tragedy of the situation rests on someone else’s shoulders. Blaming yourself for the inevitable is...pointless. I’ve had to learn that the hard way.”
FLYNN RIDER - ENTP / “The Debater”
“The ENTP personality type is the ultimate devil's advocate, thriving on the process of shredding arguments and beliefs and letting the ribbons drift in the wind for all to see. People with the ENTP personality type have a way with words and wit that others find intriguing. Their confidence, quick thought and ability to connect disparate ideas in novel ways create a style of communication that is charming, even entertaining, and informative at the same time.”
“Yeah, chances are we won’t be going back to Maldonia for a while, much as I might hope otherwise. They’re pretty good to us there, but since the ball, my uncle’s been strict about people leaving camp or going off alone. We… we lost someone that night, so he’s worried. He’d probably chew us both out if he saw me talking to you.”
“I’m sorry to hear for your loss, but I don’t think we can completely blame Maldonia for what happened. I know Prince Naveen--I trust he would’ve done everything in his power to protect his guests that night. I doubt he was expecting a paranormal attack.”
“I’m sorry for your loss, though...I understand what it’s like--the fear that comes with it.”
“Well, that wasn’t really what I expected when I heard of a ball. I just got to dance once or so, and now need to take a bath. …You too, Hen Wen.”
“I don’t think that was what any of us expected--I’m still shaking. Damn it all, I’ve never...I’ve never seen anything like that before.”
petenpan:
“Saying he has a bad attitude would be a compliment. Not all of them are as bad as he is though, he has a particular dislike for me for some reason so he might not be such a jerk to you.”
“Surprisingly, no, although now that you mention it I think I could be quite good at it.”
“Yikes, that sounds atrocious, actually. Maybe you and this guy need to have some one-on-one time or something; ease the tension, so to speak. If he has no reason to dislike you, then maybe he’s just that way with everyone.”
“It sounds like an exciting enough career--traveling around the countries and snooping around, gathering up the hottest stories while you can. It’s kinda like detective work, when you think about it.”
“That is so cool. Is it a real sword? Can I see it?”
“Pretty forward, don’t you think? Asking a man to see his sword before you’ve even properly introduced yourself? The horror!”
“All jokes aside, though, here; be careful, I nearly nicked myself with it earlier.”
naveenlazarov:
“I agree, there are far worse things that I can be remembered for, after all. That is a bet that I am willing to take, monsieur! Legendary parties like this will be the standard for the next century and beyond. Quite frankly I do not know if I can top myself after this. Ouais, I understand perfectly Mister Flynn. The little princess has gone through so much already. I can assure you that she will be perfectly safe. I will see to it myself if I must. Although between you and me, I think she is the one who will be doing more of the protecting. She is a bit of a spitfire, yes? I have heard her skills with a frying pan are incredible.”
“My lips are sealed, though you should hope that the princess and I do not share drinks, for then I cannot guarantee such a thing. Heaven forbid your affection for Miss Rapunzel destroy that reputation of yours, though I hope for your sake she does not learn of it in its entirety. She seem a bit…innocent? Not that such a thing is bad, but it may prove a shock. Ugh, I do not know how you do it, monsieur. The settled life sounds so horribly dull. I will name a week of mourning for my loss, but I can hardly do more. After all, the Maldonian people are so very lonely without their loving prince.”
“You could be known for notoriety rather than revered for your pretty, playboy lifestyle, for instance. Murder, throwing parties in bad taste, and being sneaky and conniving. There’s a ton of things you could be, so I’d be greatful that your reputation hasn’t gone down the shitter. Yet, at least. Tonight may change that for you, if this party is meant to be as legendary and wild as you’ve been pumping it up to be. And I’m sure the access to free booze never hurts. I’m glad to hear it, she...she means a lot to me, is all. And she’s still so naive about the world around her; if I don’t keep my eye on her constantly, I’m afraid she’s gonna either stumble into a trap or get herself killed. I can tell her parents have the same fears themselves. Ugh, frying pans; don’t mention them around me. Still makes me wince.”
“Loose lips after you’ve been liquored up, eh? I’ll have to keep that in mind the next time we talk to one another, Prince Naveen! You know, so I can get even if it happens. My reputation is everything, man--plus, I don’t exactly know how to talk about my feelings with her. It was never my strong suit with the ladies. Innocent, yes-- good way to phrase it. Her entire life has been blindness and innocence, locked away in that Godforsaken tower for so long. It’s definitely not dull; there’s never a dull moment with Rapunzel, I’m noticing. But it’s not a life for everyone. That much I do understand.”
“I don’t believe so. And if you have met him you’ll wish you hadn’t, that’s a promise.”
“You’re probably right, the headline would read: Robin Hood escapes by putting the gold in his mouth! No one would question it.”
“Is he that scummy, then? I’ve heard they have notoriously bad attitudes. It would still be fascinating to meet some on my own time; I could charm them Flynn Rider style.”
“I like that headline! Ever thought about going into journalism, maybe?”
Thieving Brooooooos
who cooks normally?: Flynn’s idea of cooking is making someone else serve up the meal for them. Aladdin’s is a stolen loaf of stale bread split among friends.
how often do they fight?: What’s fighting among thieving bros? The only sorts of fights that Aladdin and Flynn get into is which of them has the greatest exit strategy for a scheme they plan on executing.
what do they do when they’re away from each other?: Probably steal things and charm the pants off of crooks and ladies. Then they converse and go over their findings (Also, Flynn raves about how great his hair looked. Always.)
nicknames for each other?: They’re the Thieving Bros Squad, obviously. What more of a nickname could you possibly need or want?
who is more likely to pay for dinner?: Why pay for a meal when Flynn can distract the shop owner long enough for Aladdin to slip in and make off with the goods?
who steals the covers at night?: Aladdin does--unaware at first--but then it becomes a game and soon the two men are taking shifts stealing the covers from one another and smirking smugly about it the entire time.
what would they get each other for gifts?: Flynn presents Aladdin with some money--that he actually earned!--as well as a few toys for Abu. Aladdin gives Flynn something he stole from the Agrabah Bazaar. Friendship.
who kissed who first?: Aladdin, in the middle of Flynn boasting and bragging about his latest exploits and the ladies he came across while out scavenging. They were both stunned into silence in the moments that followed.
who made the first move?: Flynn Rider, and he’ll take credit for it without hesitation. He prides himself on his ability to woo people.
who remembers things?: They both fair pretty decently when it comes to remembering the important things...Flynn just might get a bit wrapped up in a story he’s trying to tell and will forget the specific little details that Aladdin can recall with ease.
who started the relationship?: It was a very mutual decision; their relationship is all about power balance and equality. Thieving Bros for life, basically.
who cusses more?: Sometimes Flynn’s prone to cursing more, but when Aladdin finds himself in a tight squeeze, a string of naughty words leaves his lips in a rush.
what would they do if the other one was hurt?: Attack whomever caused or inflicted the injury and then pull the other to safety. The duo that steals together saves each other!
Flynn and Rapnuzel!!
big spoon/little spoon: In a relationship like Flynn and Rapunzel’s, Flynn doesn’t know how to be anything but the big spoon. Especially when Rapunzel more or less koalas herself to his front.
favorite non-sexual activity: Flynn enjoys Rapunzel’s company more than anything in the entire world. Sometimes they’ll be talking in her bed and she’ll be rambling on and on about some sort of strange person she met in town that day, and he’ll just look at her and think “God, I’ve got it bad.”
who uses all the hot water: Flynn does, but...come on. Beauty takes time.
most trivial thing they fight over: Flynn and Rapunzel rarely fight--it’s just not their style. Flynn’s too laid back and Rapunzel’s too cheerful and optimistic. But when they do argue, it’s usually over Maximus. Damn horse.
who does most of the cleaning: Flynn’s never been much of one for cleaning, and it was all Rapunzel really knew back when she lived in her tower, so she tends to do it purely out of habit.
what has a season pass on their dvr/who controls the netflix queue: Rapunzel has absolutely no idea how Netflix and DVRs work, yet she’s somehow managed to record every single episode of Cupcake Wars and regularly checks out Too Cute on Animal Planet. Flynn likes them, too, but pretends he’s strictly interested in watching Vikings and Game of Thrones.
who calls up the super/landlord when the heat’s not working: Flynn will call them up, yelling and trying to smooth talk his way out of paying extra for the heating unit to be fixed, but then Rapunzel will take the phone and charm the landlord purely based on the way she talks to him.
who steals the blankets: Rapunzel can’t help but steal the blankets. Not used to having hair that isn’t a million miles long, she rolls up in all of the blankets like a burrito as they sleep. Flynn’s feet get very cold. He’s afraid he’ll have to cut them off due to hypothermia.
who leaves their stuff around: Rapunzel and Flynn are both guilty of doing this. One minute, Rapunzel will be looking for her paint set; the next, all of her art stuff will be scattered across the floor. Likewise, where Flynn removes his shoes, they tend to just...stay there.
who remembers to buy the milk: Rapunzel tries and forgets. Flynn brings it home and sneaks it in the fridge, pretending he didn’t do it all the while.
who remembers anniversaries: Rapunzel shows no shame when it comes to anniversaries--she goes all out for the affair! Flynn, though...he likes to pretend he doesn’t pay that much attention to it, but meanwhile, he’s had her gifts picked out three months in advance.
